This company has to have the most expensive labour in Calgary!
I called back in September, because the plumbing under the kitchen sink was leaking. Dispatch sent someone a few days later to meet with my tenant and assess the situation. The plumber advised me that the plumbing was a huge mess and that an entire re-work needed to be done underneath the sink. I was quoted $800. They made it sound like hours of work was needed. I figured it would be a huge job, so $800 made sense to me. However, 45 minutes later, the plumber had finished the job, packed up, and my credit card billed. I'm happy with the job that was done, but shocked that $800 was required for that little amount of time! There was no clog, no digging behind walls. They simply traded out some of the pipe under the sink in a job that probably took them 30 minutes once they got started. I've tried contacting them numerous times since to talk to someone to find out more, but no one has gotten back to me. I chose this company, because the high ratings. They definitely do not deserve the high ratings they have. GO ELSEWHERE, especially if you don't know much about plumbing- THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU!!!

plumbing , heating

At first we had fabulous experaince dealing with the company in till the about a year and half ago, when we needed to replace our furnace in our home. When they sent someone out to give us a quote tech was doing is job and i presented the coupon for savings for a new furnace off there own website , ( when the tech went to quote us ) with the saving , His manger refused it as it apparently couldn't be used with our model of furnace. NOWHERE on that coupon does it or nor did it say what model of furnaces we could or couldn't use it on. .

Needless to say we found small company who was able to meet our needs at the price we were quoted at. and won't be using clear view any time soon for any of our needs.

Beware

I called them 2 days about a loud banging noise coming from my furnace. Karl came and said it was a result of abandoned wires and a dirty filter that was the cause of the banging. He replaced our filter with an extra one we had on hand and did a tune up. He also provided us for further options down the road for future maintenanace. This costed us close to $400. We didn't mind paying that because we thought our problem was fixed.

Last night the banging noise returned. When I called Clearview Hilary informed me "it sounds like it could be a bigger issue" and that if my warranty did not cover it I would have to pay. This is absolutely ludicrous since it is the exact same issue I had 2 nights prior and was "resolved" according to their technician, Karl. If a warranty only lasts 2 days that's another issue in itself. I was absolutely frustrated with Hilary as she clearly wasn't listening to what a customer has to say. I had to correct her 3 times on my name and she still pronounced it wrong. There's only 3 letters in it! She wasn't hearing my concern or what I had to say. If you're going to answer the phones and deal with customers you need to LISTEN to them instead of your robotic schpeel.

I was charged again, almost $73 (their travel and diagnostic fee) for Karl to return to diagnose that nothing is wrong since he was there 2 days prior. So why am I re-paying for a visit that was resolved by him? He then called his supervisor for suggestions, they were both stumped and couldn't find an answer. He offered me their contractor to look at my ducts, thinking that could be where the issue is. The quote on that would be $830. $830 to look at what they PRESUME could be the issue. Does anyone like to pay $830 for a guess?

It has already cost me $500 with Clearview to NOT fix the issue but now they want me to pay an additional $830 for a guess. So do I get my money refunded from them for not fixing what I called them for in the first place?

Not impressed all around.

Buyer Beware!!!

It's amazing reading the reviews, either its a 10 or a 0.. Most of the 0's have an interesting story to tell...

Well here's my 0 story...

5 years ago purchased a high end furnace through these guys. Big mistake. First year, motherboard fried. They replaced it for free. 3rd year, same motherboard fried again. They replaced it, with some hesitation since the yearly 'maintenance' wasnt done . Maintenance has nothing to do with a fried motherboard in the 1st and 3rd years.... Anyways onto the 5th year, had a friend who does plumbing 'do maintenance' to check for leaks etc. Everythings great. Few months later, ticking sound in blower of furnace. They are well trained on the phone to pretend that you'll get covered under warranty but warn you that you might still get charged 70$. They come in, look at furnace for about 5 seconds, and say 'no mainenance recorded, we'll have to charge you $300 more to investigate it.' Seriously?? You couldnt say that on the phone? You havent even taken out a tool and you've charged $70 and wont do more work without more money? rediculous.... goodbye... stop payment on card..

On the invoice it says 5/10 year warranty... is it 5 or 10 years? maybe they meant 5/10 which equals 1/2, or 6 months....!! watch the fine print!! not paying their grossly overpriced yearly 'maintenance' will void the warranty...

Painful plugged drain but they did it...

Scope:
Plugged kitchen drain located underneath our basement slab. I used my drill mounted auger for about an hour with no success. I suspect it was just going through the mass of grease and out again. So we tried Drano Max Gel, which is supposed to be great for standing water clogs and after several hours, nothing. I even tried auguring with the Draino sitting in there and nothing. First time I've ever had to do this for a plugged drain but we had to call the plumber…

Pros:
• Called at 10:30 am, arrived on site by 1:00, very prompt.
• Courteous and helpful. My wife was home but he answered everything and after 45 minutes using his power auger, was wondering what heck was going on.
• At the hour mark he called a buddy for help who recommended a hot water push (seal up the cleanout, fill the pipe with hot water and let the gravity push it out) which worked given how much he must have loosened it.
• Good fees, cheaper than other estimates we received over the phone, given the time spent and the promptness of the appointment.

Cons:
• Splashed abut too much water around when cleaning things out but I likely would have done the same given how difficult the job was.
• Their no fault agreement seems pretty weird. If the auger gets stuck, we have to pay to break up the concrete slab to get it out. Typically, I would expect the contractor's insurance to cover problems like this, not ours.

I would hire them again given this brief experience.

Deception to unknowing consumers

I will first say that I would only trust the bad reviews on this page as good comments could easily come from illegitimate sources (i.e. in house). I also regret not reading through these reviews before contacting this company.

I contacted Clearview to come check a faulty garborator. Once the technician arrived he quickly assessed that the garborator was broken and showed me the broken parts. We discussed multiple avenues to fix the problem ranging from $1200 - $3000. I am not adept in plumbing so I assumed these were reasonable estimates.

One thing to note is they lure the uneducated customer in by stating they do projects by job, and not hourly. These are all determined by a database/program they use. They say that projects that take longer will be guaranteed by the given rate. This however leaves the majority of the projects that go off without a hitch, to be grossly over-priced.

We opted for a mid range estimate to put in a new garborator (conveniently the only one they had in the service van) for appoximately $1400.

The change out took 1.5 hours, and the new garborator was in working order. I will be kind and round up to 2 hours total for the service call.

As you can see it would work out to $700 / hour. After the project was complete I assumed that the unit that was installed would run for about $1000. It actually costs $200 and I'm sure buying in bulk would allow for a discount. Even in saying it was the full $200 it means that the labour was $600 / hour.

Infuriated I immediately called to complain. They put you through an absolutely unbearable explanataion of how they do things and are unwilling to explain any costs because of course they only provide estimates for jobs, not by the hour. The "detailed" receipt which was requested was simply the one all encompassing charge of $1400.

After about harrassing them for multiple calls and demanding to speak to the owner (Who states %100 customer satisfaction guarantee), we were denied the ability to talk to him directly. After about a week of battling they came back to us and said there had in fact been an error in their quoting system and we should have only paid $900 instead of $1400. Still outrageous and by no means a win their refund for the "error" was accepted. All in all if ANY other company were to have completed this job it would have been no more than $400.

This company abuses it's knowledge and gives plumbers and trades persons a bad name anywhere.

Please heed this advice and look elsewhere to a more reputable company.

Hot water tank inspection

Extremely prompt service was provided (the same day it was requested). I highly recommend the plumber, Brian Gillick, who seems very knowledgeable. I haven't proceeded with the work in view of the quoted price, but I would definitely trust Brian to do the work.

Over-priced diagnostic and repair to air conditioning unit

We asked ClearView to come and look at our air conditioning unit which was not working properly. When the technician came he informed us that as well as the $65. traveling fee, there would also be a charge of $260.00 to diagnose the problem. After about 15 mins. we were told that the unit needed a new capacitor, costing more than $700.00

After the replacement of the capacitor, the unit started working. The technician checked the temperature but informed us it was too high and suggested the unit may be needed cleaning (acid wash) at a further cost of about $500.00. After the cleaning, testing still showed high temperatures and in fact, hot air was coming through our vents - i.e. the air conditioning and heating system were working at the same time. A new problem! The technician worked in the furnace room and then told us we needed to change our thermostat - at a cost of $420.00 if he was to provide and install the thermostat - which we declined. The technician mentioned that may be the cooling fluid needed "topping up" but we should test the unit with the new thermostat first. We did this but we did not get sufficient cooling. We did not feel confident to call ClearView back and so called another company, found on Home Stars. These people were staggered at how much we had been charged for the work done and in addition told us there was very little cooling fluid in the unit and they filled it up at a much lower cost that quoted by ClearView. They also noted that the new capacitor was sitting loose (not restrained).

Although at the time, we requested break downs of the costs from Cleariew, this was refused. We definitely would not recommend, or use this company again.
