Over-priced diagnostic and repair to air conditioning unit
We asked ClearView to come and look at our air conditioning unit which was not working properly. When the technician came he informed us that as well as the $65. traveling fee, there would also be a charge of $260.00 to diagnose the problem. After about 15 mins. we were told that the unit needed a new capacitor, costing more than $700.00
After the replacement of the capacitor, the unit started working. The technician checked the temperature but informed us it was too high and suggested the unit may be needed cleaning (acid wash) at a further cost of about $500.00. After the cleaning, testing still showed high temperatures and in fact, hot air was coming through our vents - i.e. the air conditioning and heating system were working at the same time. A new problem! The technician worked in the furnace room and then told us we needed to change our thermostat - at a cost of $420.00 if he was to provide and install the thermostat - which we declined. The technician mentioned that may be the cooling fluid needed "topping up" but we should test the unit with the new thermostat first. We did this but we did not get sufficient cooling. We did not feel confident to call ClearView back and so called another company, found on Home Stars. These people were staggered at how much we had been charged for the work done and in addition told us there was very little cooling fluid in the unit and they filled it up at a much lower cost that quoted by ClearView. They also noted that the new capacitor was sitting loose (not restrained).
Although at the time, we requested break downs of the costs from Cleariew, this was refused. We definitely would not recommend, or use this company again.
