Professional and extremely thorough - and I learned a lot about the thirteen year old home I just purchased from David and coworker Evan. When I moved in I immediately noticed how fast dust was accumulating - a normal event during a move - but it was the dark dust in the bathrooms and the filthy state of the vents that made me suspect that the ducts may never have been cleaned. Based on what came out of the ducts - construction wood and labels from ductwork dating back to 1998 - if they were ever cleaned -it was a haphazard job. Dave couldn't be sure from the state of the ductwork and any obvious holes from previous cleaning. When they made the holes for the vacuum, dust was falling out immediately. Dave and Evan started in the basement and drew a lot of dust from the ducts and then went from vent to vent with a high pressure compressor and blew the dust down again. They were extremely thorough on each stage of the cleaning. They then disinfected the vents and a very clean gentle odor permeated the house for a short time - and then disappeared. Dave then pointed out some major deficiencies with my duct work. The builder had only used one screw on each join versus the three that are meant to be used. Every join was going to need to be wrapped with tin tape as I was losing about 30% of my heat through the ducts. I could either have him do it - but suggested that I could easily do it for a lot less with a couple of rolls of tape to save some money. He also pointed out holes where wood was missing and causing more heat loss (my basement is unfinished) and a suggestion to bring my cold air return to the floor which would give me better efficiency as well. He also pointed out a gas pipe that should be added to further provide more efficiency. Next he worked on my Central Vac that had almost no suction. I didn't know if there was a problem with the unit or the pipes were just dirty. After he cleaned out the vac in the same manner that he cleaned the ducts - vent by vent - he did a further repair on the gun type handle that I discovered was broken when I moved into the house. The vacuum now had terrific suction and was super clean. Dave also took the time to take a look at the vent that had been installed in a cupboard over my microwave and gave me the bad news that neither the electrical was up to code and the venting was very poorly done. (Which is why I asked him in the first place to look at it - as it looked like a makeshift job to me)
Dave immediately saw problems that my home inspector should have caught. As a single woman buying a home, I really depended on the home inspector to find all the deficiencies. He did find some - but this is now the second issue in a few short weeks that I have discovered he missed. All I can say is a big thank you to Dave as his suggestions will save me big time on my gas bill, and I already know I won't be spending huge amounts of time trying to keep on top of the dust with a central vac that was picking up none of it. They were both extremely courteous and took the hoses in through a basement window so they weren't sitting on hardwood floors. I really appreciated that. Evan even nailed a missing downspout back together for me - just because he noticed it had fallen off. How nice is that? They spent about three and a half hours completing the job - so you know right there that they were doing the job to perfection. I have to thank Homestars once again for a terrific lead on a company that gave me professional, thorough, excellent quality workmanship. I highly - highly recommend them. I am so happy that I won't be breathing in anymore of the dirt they hauled away with them. If you want the job done properly - you must call Dave and Evan. Thanks guys for all your help...
