Poor Service & Response

This company is not worth the time or money! The technician yelled at me in my house, was over a hour late with no call, broke an ancillary part of the water unit, refused to fix it, and management didn't care. I called for over 3 months with no response.

I have been without heat for an astronomical amount of time. It's a great thing it's summer. Save yourself the hassle and pick a reputable, reliable company!

water leak and toilet install

We had a water leak and Service Master referred us to this plumber. A young woman, Sara, arrived and proceeded to look for the leak. She started by making a hole in the wall behind my toilet on the main floor of the house and then removing the toilet. Later she found the leak downstairs, went out for parts to repair it, did the repair, and then came upstairs to reinstall the toilet she had removed. She spent more than an hour reinstalling the toilet and then announced that it was too old and she could not get the right parts to do the job. She said that we would have to have a new toilet. We were surprised as the toilet was working perfectly well before she removed it. Our bill for her work was almost $1000.

A few days later we bought a new toilet and called her back to do the installation. She came at 8:30 in the morning and took four hours to install the new toilet. I called the shop where we had purchased it and asked how long the installation should take. They said it should take less than an hour and not more than an hour and a bit if there were a few complications. She installed the toilet and I heard her tell a colleague (who was here about the drain downstairs) that she had to pull it again for some reason. She charged us anyway. She ran out to her van 35 times in the course of her work. I counted because I became alarmed after I heard her run out there five times in five minutes. She burned my wall paper, baseboard, and white bathroom cabinet while installing the toilet. Then she went downstairs to reinstall a toilet her drain specialist colleague had removed down there. She had to replace the flange and this took three her hours. The result was that I received another bill fort almost $1000. The parts were minimal as far as cost, but the labour was $105 an hour and I feel that she was extremely inefficient at her job and took at least twice as long as necessary. I phoned her manager and left a voice message. He did not return my call. I complained to the Better Business Bureau of which they are a member. So far they have not responded to my complaints. I am looking now to see if there is a Plumbing Board that will review my bills in the interests of fairness. I also want the burn marks repaired in my bathroom.

toilet replacements

Everything was fine until they showed up at the door. There stood a person who had not been informed of the kind of jobs he had to do and he was visibly and verbally dismayed that it was so physical. He had mobility issues so I'm not surprised that he was unhappy. He did the work but it took him twice as long as it would someone less challenged. He dropped a toilet on my tub and chipped it. When I reported to the manager, I was told someone would come out after the holidays to fix it. I also asked for a discount on labour since the owner himself said they wouldn't normally send this employee on this kind of job. I was told that someone had to pay for it and now my calls are not returned and no one to fix the chip on the tub. Boo!

HVAC

Took months to finish work. Total cost was almost double the original estimate. Make sure you get a detailed estimate and never pay a deposit with them. We gave them a large deposit in good faith, after that they will ignore you until you get stressed out and have to escalate the issue. I'm sure they're good for the residential leaky faucet or toilet, not for any commercial projects

Bathroom leak

Terrible company!!! We had a leak which caused severe damage to our kitchen on the main floor. They were contracted by service masters to fix the leak. Our ceiling was ripped out and everything. 1.5 months later our toilet caused a leak to the main floor. I was charged for travel time to my house. He replaced a wax ring (which he didn't have that part in his truck) so he charged me for the travel time to go get the part. In the end I spent $311 to have a wax ring replaced. Now, 2 weeks later my shower has caused a leak. They swear that none of these incidents are linked in anyway and will not repair the issue. We now face another big cost because of their neglect and unprofessional workmanship. The owner of A1 never calls you back either and hung up on me when I tried to get answers. Never use them!!!

Estimate

We just moved into an older house and I had this company come inspect our outdoor faucets to make sure they were winterized. Even though the company is located down the street from my house, they charged me $100 mileage fee. They sent an apprentice plumber who initially told us that our outdoor faucet needs to be winterized and we would have to rip out the bathroom wall to get to it. Upon further inspection, he guessed that they were actually winterized before leaving. He charged me $250 for the service which took about 30 mins. I feel I didn't get a professional opinion. Just an opinion from a kid out of high school. I called to get another professional come out to look at it. The receptionist told me the owner call me back which he never did. Worst experience. Never hire this company.

Hot water tank replacement, gas fitting, outdoor water tap change

We had the pleasure of dealing with Tom for the quote and Blair for the installation. They were fast, friendly and efficient and recommended that we NOT do an expensive project we thought we might need. They booked a day and a half for the job just in case they needed it, but were able to get the job done quickly (but without rushing) and within a few hours. Tom spent about half an hour at the house, making sure he understood exactly what we were looking to have done, offering up options and answering questions. The other guys spent about 10 min and were over an hour early for the quote (luckily we were home!). Frankie and Johnnie's was not the cheapest quote we got, but we felt they were open, honest and truly were working to get our business and make sure things were working to our satisfaction. They were a bit late arriving, but it was because they got lost trying to get to our place, and they were quick to let us know and apologize. We will be needing a furnace in the near future and will definitely be calling them for a quote!

water leak on second floor bathrooms

First, I called after-hours on a Friday and since it was not an emergency I asked for someone to call me Monday morning. And they did! I know, this sounds trivial and is a basic principle of good economics. However, several other companies failed this simple courtesy.
Second, they said a plumber would arrive at a specific time...and he did! Again, another basic standard, sadly not followed by many other companies.
Blair (the plumber) was very helpful. He thoroughly explained the problem, which was actually a very simple fix. We were prepared for extensive work, including cutting holes in the ceiling. Blair took his time to determine the exact source of the leak, without cutting a single hole and sparing un-necessary costs.
Would I recommend A-1? Absolutely without question. In fact, don't waste your time with others and call them first.

Replace a toilet and misc

We had a problem with one toilet and they really went out of their way to find us the solution. They also suggested we put in shut off valves on our older toilets in the house - one saved us from a really big flood when the toilet tank cracked from age. Would recommend them to anyone!
