Plumbing Main Drain Blockage

Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.

I had a blockage in my basement bathroom and was I unable to clear the drain with my own troubleshooting. I called Clearview plumbing and left a message for the staff to call me back. Tessa got a hold of me and made my appointment. She also explained that the technician would assess my home and provide me with possible solutions to resolve the issue. I would decide which option would best fit my needs and budget before any work would be performed. On my appointment day, ClearView had a technician who was ready to service my home sooner than the appointment window; however, I was running late and feared that the appointment would be cancelled. Hilary from the dispatch team reassured me that they would still accommodate my appointment and to not worry about rushing home. When I got home, I received an email from Brian M., a technician from ClearView. The message had a brief profile of himself, the company and a reassuring message that they are fully trained and ready to solve my issues. A few minutes later, Brian knocked on the door and introduced himself. I gave Brian a quick summary of my issue and he began troubleshooting right away. He quickly found several clues as to what was causing the blockage and systematically narrowed it down to the source. Afterwards, Brian and I sat down to discuss the different solutions he came up with and went into detail as to what would be done. I'll admit that the service was going to be a lot more expensive than I had originally budgeted for; however, this was a problem that I couldn't fix on my own and something I didn't want to get worse over time. I decided to have my blockage hydro flushed because ClearView would warranty the line for one year, visually inspect the inside of the pipe with a camera and provide other home inspection perks with this option. The work is not completed on my home yet; however, I feel that ClearView should still be recognized for the level of service that they provided me. They may not be the cheapest plumbing company in Calgary; however, their reputation and quality of work deserves that premium.

I usually don't do reviews, but I am so pleased and impressed with outstanding service from Brian Gillick that I had to put in an excellent review for him. He was VERY professional, VERY knowledgeable and VERY helpful. We had quite a big ceiling leak in our living room. I was frustrated as we never had any plumbing or kind of problems before, the house is nearly 10 years old. I contacted ClearView and we got Brian as our technician. He diagnosed the cause of problem in first 5 minutes and gave me detailed explanation of what happened, why and how to fix it. Moreover we did go around the house (he suggested) and look at all other possible trouble spots for the future. I have asked more questions I had about plumbing, water filter and water softener systems in our house and he checked it with me explaining all I needed to know. Brian spent in our house most of the day and did OUTSTANDING FANTASTIC job!! I would highly recommend Brian Gillick for your plumbing needs!! I will definitely call ClearView for Brian for all of my future plumbing needs. THANK YOU BRIAN!!

Tub, tub surround installation

I was initially quoted on replacing my taps but I asked to receive a new quote to install a new tub and surround. I understood after speaking with the installer Luiz that the installation of the tub and surround included the price of the tap replacement since they had to be removed to do the tub anyway. It turned out that this was not the case and I ended up paying an additional $1400 because I "misunderstood". The work done was literally a disaster. Luiz and Sonny (no longer with Clearview) installed the tub visibly crooked with massive gaps between the tub and the walls of the surround. I was told this was the best they could do because the walls were not totally square and that water wouldn't get into the gaps (heard of mould Luiz?). They also cut through an electrical wire and their repair was not to code and pulled the wires against a heating pipe. When the wall was opened up several weeks later it was apparent that it was scorched due to overheating from the pipe and I was told that this would most definitely resulted in a fire if left as it was by several electricians. Luiz's fix for the gaps when I complained was to pipe 4 tubes of caulking into the gaps (it looked awful and I could still see the wall between the tub and surround). I spoke to their customer service manager Dave who essentially treated me as though I was over-reacting. He said he would come up with a plan and contact me while I was on vacation for two weeks but he did not. When I returned I both called and emailed and received no response until I filed a BBB complaint (conveniently timed). At that point I had issues with scheduling (they were showing up in 2 hours without setting an appointment). The master plumber Paul was very apologetic for the work previously done and kept me in the loop with what he was doing. The first new tub he uncrated was cracked so he left to pick up a new one that was copped in two places. He showed them to me and said that they would send a fibreglass guy out to touch it up, they never booked anyone to do the repair so I phoned to question them. Paul came back out, took more pictures and still, no one was ever booked so I still have a brand new chipped tub. Should also mention that the $1400 tap replacement included a $100 tap, a shower head that in all honesty I never saw because Luiz advised me to purchase one because the one he was putting in was of poor quality. Paul was kind enough to order a longer faucet because the included one was too short and caused water to splash on the edge of the tub. Paul fixed so many things installed incorrectly by Luiz, there was a part missing from the taps that were not anchored correctly, he rewired the singed wire, patched the bedroom wall damaged that backed on to the bathroom, but most importantly he installed the tub and walls straight. The whole experience was very upsetting and I decided after thinking about it for a while that Calgarians needed to hear my story about Clearview.

Our air con gave out on the hottest day of the year so far. The office was excellent at sending John out within two days of our call. He provided us with multiple options (the best one was total replacement of air con and old furnace, and hot water heater). Although we ended up choosing the most expensive complete replacement option, John did not pressure us in any way to do so. He and his team of two more people arrived two days later to do the job. They worked extremely hard to get it all done in one day - 8:00 am till after 6:00 pm. They were professional, efficient, friendly, and cleaned up after they were done. We are extremely pleased and will continue to use ClearView, and especially John.We were very happy with the timeliness of response, the options provided and the completed job.

Plumbing

I originally used Clearview to install a gas line for my new gas stove, Paul showed up late, took a look at what was needed and informed me that he had to come back a second time as he did not have all the material that was needed plus the pipe had to be cut, so he set up an appointment for the next weekend. He was late again but got the work done, while he was there I had him look at a leak that was coming from my kitchen drain. He gave me a quote and said all I had to do was contact their office to set up an appointment. So I set up an appointment for my day off, Paul was to be there at 8:30 by 9:30 he had not arrived. I called the office only to be told that he would not be there because of an emergency and they had no other tech's available. the job would have to be rebooked....next appointment was the following week, The tech was late by an hour........showed up and did not have the proper tools to do the job and would have to come back. I had him quote me a price to move my hose bib while he was there.....price went from 385.00 to 1336.00......and he wanted a deposit in order to guarantee an appointment so I paid for the work in advance. A week later next appointment comes and tech is late so I call the office only to be informed the he is not longer with the company but because I had paid for the job they would send out a different person to get the job done, I asked if he would have everything that was needed to complete the job.....I was assured that he would have all the tools and material when he arrives. The second tech, Dennis showed up and took a look at what needed to be done and informed me that he would have to come back as he was not aware of what was needed and that my main shut for the water was not functioning and needed to be replaced......they wanted another 500.00. I said no way went and bought a new one for 20.00 and he agreed that he would install it on his next visit which would have to be on the following Tuesday because I had to get the city to shut off my water . Had to get a friend to be at my house as I could not get time off, Dennis was to be there at 2:30 showed up at 5:00....changed the main shut off and fixed the leak and started on moving my hose bib, then informed me that he had to go and would come back the next day to finish the job and it would only take 10 - 15 minutes. The next day was Canada Day and I asked if they were open and he yes not a problem, he told me that Dispatch would contact me with the time. By 10:00 am I had not heard from them so I called only to be told that they were only open for emergencies and that the tech was out of town. By this point I was extremely pissed off and still am. They sent out a third tech, Brian G, yesterday to complete the job. He was professional and made sure that I was completely satisfied. But I will never use this company again and will not recommend them to anyone!! I think I was over charged and it took longer to get a few things done then it did for my deck to be built!!!!

Fixed it the first time!! And I mean the first time.....Gerry left to get the part and came back within the hour to complete the job and I did not have to be home with more time away from work for a second visit! Too bad the appliance repair industry doesn't do this! Excellent job...Thanks !!
