I wish I could say that we had a good experience with BC Furnace, but we didn’t. We felt like we had been misled to and misled right from the start of dealing with them. We purchased a new place that needed a new furnace and hot water tank, as neither were safe to use. We met with a couple of companies to get quotes. BC Furnace came in a couple of thousand dollars cheaper than the nearest quote, so we chose them. Admittedly, this was our mistake. Before signing the agreement, we asked if they used subcontractors, our representative said no they do not (they actually do). We asked that the work be started asap, as we have an infant, and being without heat or hot water wasn’t an option. We moved in on a Thursday. I was told that the work couldn’t start that day because measurements needed to be taken for the installation, and the day after that would be needed for the installer to fabricate the parts needed. Work was supposed to be scheduled for the following Monday. Our rep also said he would try to schedule 2 installers so that the work could be completed in 1 day. Okay, 3 days without heat and hot water we could handle. Monday came, and by 10am there was no sign of BC Furnace. I called and they said our rep had scheduled the install for Thursday, not Monday. So we would be a week without both before anyone even showed up. We were also told it was a 2 day job for 1 installer. They scheduled 1 installer on the Thursday before a long weekend. He removed the old furnace and hot water tank on the Thursday. He obviously couldn’t finish the whole job as he was by himself and no parts were fabricated ahead of time, they were all made on site as he needed them. He attempted to get some more work completed on Saturday but was under the weather, so he had to leave and didn’t come back until the Tuesday, after the 4 day weekend. We were 12 days with no heat or hot water. April was a very cold month. Everyone in my household got sick, including my infant. BC Furnace’s solution to our no heat or hot water was to provide 2 small space heaters (which cannot be left on at night) and to tell us to go to a rec centre or a gym to shower and use their hot water.
I sent numerous emails outlining our issues and stating our displeasure with the whole situation and job. We received no response. We were misled to so often that I started to lose count. Our rep would tell us something then backtrack when we asked more questions. Every time I called their offices and asked to speak to a manager or accounting, they transferred me back to our account rep, who was wholly unhelpful. I would never recommend BC Furnace to anyone. If you do choose them, ask who their subcontractor is, and use them instead. You’ll probably pay less. We were really pleased with our installer (a subcontractor). He was friendly, chatty, helpful, and did what he could to finish quickly.
