Air Conditioning Repairs

This outfit has left my furnace and air conditioner in tatters. They came in and tried to make my AC work they didn't and then billed me for $750. My neighbours tell me we told you so. Never again.

Furnance A/C Service & Repair

Have been using Mckinnon for several years to service my forced air and AC heating/cooling system without any problems. Recently had some issues with unusual furnace operation (ramping fan speed) following service. Dealing with customer service to arrange for a no-charge follow-up service to resolve the issue was an initial challenge. However, with persistence and the intervention of the owner of the business, a no-charge follow-up service appointment was finally arranged. Consequently, I am happy to report that the furnance is now running normally with no usual fan speed ramping or variations. My thanks to furnance technician Russell who persisted and finally resolved the issue. Also my thanks to Michael Nepom, owner of Mckinnon for standing by your work and sticking with it until everthing was resolved to my total satisfaction. I remain a happy and satified customer. Have a great summer!

New Furnace

We have been using Mckinnon for about 5 years for all heating repairs on our old furnace so it was just natural to have them instal our new furnace. We have now moved to a new home and plan on using them once again in the next few years to upgrade our furnace and AC. We have had such great service with them that I would never even consider anyone else at this point.

Replace water dripping from valve on furnace

I found water on the basement floor, and with a quick check found its' source to be the furnace. {we have a boiler]. A call to Mckinnon's Heating resulted in a tiimely appointment. I found 'Diane' on the phone to be most helpful in determining if this was an urgent call, or one the could be followed up the next day. She was both pleasant and informative. The technician "Dennis" was dispatched and sourced the problem immediately. A worn out back-flow valve. He even had one in his truck, unfortunately it was not a duplicate and could not be used. This however was not a problem. He had no intention of leaving it dripping another day. Off he went to the other part of the city to track down the intended culprit. He returned and fixed my furnace in record time. This is the least that you would expect from a service call. But these people had pride in their jobs, in their attitude and their workmanship. Introductions were made, shoes removed, tools available and kept off my carpeting; cleanup was done, invoicing was efficient and calculated on the spot. "Dennis" even checked another valve and took a moment to note that it had a small drip, and fixed it. He cared, and that is something that is more the exception than the norm in present times. I appreciate everyones efforts, and will continue to use McKinnon's service and would recommend them without hesitation. THANK YOU DIANE AND DENNIS!

Boiler Trouble

McKinnon examined my furnace during the period of my 'Energy Audit' with a mind to replacement of the boiler. 'Nothing wrong here!' they said. No need for any new furnace. Fast forward a few months, once the energy audit timeline was over. McKinnon's guys come to clean my furnace. They clean it, and red tag it. (i.e. need a new furnace). Now there is no compensation from the audit plan, and Mr. Napalm says he has no responsibility. He offers me a very poor choice high efficiency (which competitors won't even SELL) and offers to write it up as a purchase for my other home, thereby saving me tax. (!) He also promised to give me the fees for cleaning back, but they never materialized on the estimate. Avoid this man and this company unless you want trouble. Nothing he said was true from the start to the finish. And this, after having done business with them for 20 years!

Company Response

I understand Joseph's frustration. We will never try to sell our clients new equipment when their equipment is functioning and in good working order. In this circumstance, the client obviously wanted to purchase a new boiler under the Ecoenergy program and due to our honesty "missed the opportunity". Obviously, we would never stop a client from purchasing new equipment but will always provide an honest, ethical opinion. It is always the client's choice to purchase new equipment and there will never be any aggressive sales tactics from Mckinnon Heating Cooling. Joseph's review supports this fact.

McKinnon Equals Shoddy Service, Damage, Danger

We've invested over $6000 with McKinnon. The technicians DO NOT know their craft. In our case, they tore up our foundations by using with a hammer rather than a drill point. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!! *** Response to McKinnon: Michael, you never returned our calls because you OWE us $3000+ for the damage you did by butchering our foundations with a sledge hammer (instead of a drill point)! I have photos, if you're interested. Also, you can't send clients invoices "randomly" for work NEVER PERFORMED. You'll be out of business soon with the way you carry on. And just do the math: we spent almost $6000 with you in the last few years; you invoiced us for less roughly $275 (for work you never did!). Awesome client service Mike.

Company Response

Yet again a client who refuses to pay for a service call and was placed in collection for the money owing to us. Thanks Marco for the kind words, if you would have returned my phone call, we would not have been forced to place your account in collection.

High efficiency gas boiler (furnace)

To take advantage of the federal and provincial eco rebates we replaced our 20 year old boiler (we have radiator heating in the house) with a super high efficiency boiler (Slant/Fin Bobcat). McKinnon explained we could not replace with the same technology (and lower price) unless the area was renovated/drywalled in to seal it off. High efficiency did not require that reno but required two new air pipes (in and out) to the outside. McKinnon explained the options very well to us on the phone. They replaced the furnace in 1 day and had minimal disturbance to the finished basement ceiling when they vented the new air pipes through joists to the outside. A small hole they did make was covered with a vent. The only problem was they left the old surge tank in my joists above the new boiler and the new piping makes it impossible to remove. I wish my spouse kept an eye on them when they did the work and said they were done since now I am stuck with the old surge tank.

$9,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Remove the old surge tank along with the old boiler.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Getting a super high efficiency furnace is expensive and will take many many years to pay for itself especially with today's low natural gas prices (and given a lot of your bill is fixed delivery charges and not the gas you consume). If you can seal the boiler area off (we couldn't) go for simple high efficiency instead.

Company Response

Hi Rob,
If you would like us to return to see how the existing storage tank can be removed, we can try our best to facilitate this.

Thanks,
Michael

New AC Unit

In a word - fabulous. Michael Nepom and his team at McKinnon were efficient, punctual, polite and came in on time and on budget. And, of course, it ended up being a tricky install. When it was determined that it was not a straight-forward install, the team went from 1 to 3 within an hour.

This was the second time I have used McKinnon and I would not hesitate to recommend them. You can do no better!

Furnace Repair

Last winter i noticed that my furnace wasn't blowing any air from the vents. I called McKinnon and they quickly came the same day and diagnosed problem to be a dead blower motor in my furnace. They were able to source the part and quickly repair, all in the same day. In terms of price they aren't cheap but i'm pretty sure they are industry standard. I would recommend them to friends and family.
