cHARGED ME FOR SERVICE CALL ON HOT WATER TANK WHEN THEY KNEW NOTHING WAS WRONG

I called them to come to my house because it looked like my hot water tank was leaking. I told them there was a puddle around my tank. I called on a Saturday evening around 8:00 pm. They told me someone would call me back. Nobody called. I called again at 11:00 pm and they told me that someone would call back. I stayed up to 1:30 am on Sunday, and nobody called back. I got a call Sunday morning at 9:30 am, and a technician came at around 10:45 am. He was at my house for about 20 minutes. He said that it wasn't the hot water tank, it was the furnace. He wrote that on the work order he gave me, and left. I called another technician for my furnace, which was under warranty. The technician came and said that it was NOT the furnace, it was the air conditioning. He said that if the water tank was leaking, there would be a flood in my basement, and that the McKinnon technician should have know that. They charged me $203.40 to come for nothing, as they should have know it was not the hot water tank leaking ( I bought the hot water tank from McKinnon), so they came so that they could charge me for doing nothing and diagnosed the problem INCORRECTLY. Also, by telling me it was the furnace, which it WASN'T, there was an additional technician charge. STAY AWAY FROM MCKINNON!!!!!

Hot Water Tank issue

First I want to say STAY AWAY FROM MCKINNON OR YOU WILL BE SORRY!
I called them on July 8th at 8:00 pm because I saw a puddle of water around my tank. Since I bought the tank there, and they installed it, they seemed like the right people to call. I explained that there was a puddle around my hot water tank, and the person I spoke to said that a technician would call me back. NOBODY called me. I called back at 11:00 to see what was happening, and it seems like my call wasn't sent out to any technician! The person I spoke to this time told me he was putting a RUSH on it, and a technician would call me. I stayed up until 1:00 am, waiting for a call, and NOBODY called me. I went to bed and was woken up at 9:30 am by a technician who said he could be at my house within 30-45 minutes. He arrived at 10:50 am, went to my tank, and said that it wasn't my tank that was leaking. He opened the furnace cover and said that it was my furnace, and PUT THAT IN WRITING on his work order. He was there 20 minutes, and charged me $203.40 and did nothing.
I then called the place where I bought my furnace, so Another service call. It turned out the IT WASN'T EVEN THE FURNACE, IT WAS THE AIR CONDITIONER, SO THE PERSON WHO CAME FROM MCKINNON DIDN'T EVEN DIAGNOSE IT PROPERLY! MY FURNACE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, SO I WAS EXPECTING IT TO BE FIXED UNDER MY WARRANTY, BUT IT WASN'T THE FURNACE, SO THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO CHARGE FOR THE CALL. The technician also told me that McKinnon' s technician should have known that it COULDN'T be the hot water tank, because because if it really was the hot water tank, there would have been a lot of water on the floor. SO, they came to my house knowing that it wasn't the hot water tank. THEY JUST WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THE CALL AND MAKE MONEY WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING!
I called McKinnon on Monday, July 10/17 and spoke to Michael, the owner. He didn't care, because all they want to do is get their money. His attitude was THANKS FOR CALLING. NOW I SEE THAT THEY DIDN'T CARE BECAUSE THEIR RATING ON HOMESTARS IS 62%. AGAIN, STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Company Response

Thank You Rhonda for your review. We installed your water heater on June 12, 2015 and the water heater installation is warrantied for 8 years on the parts and tank and one year on labour. The service call you requested on the weekend was for the water heater as you felt that it was leaking. Our service technician contacted you on Sunday morning and as promised, he arrived 45 minutes later. He identified that the water leak was not from the water heater but from the furnace as the evaporator coil from your air conditioning system was leaking into it. He offered to identify and rectify the issue but you insisted he not touch it as you stated the furnace was recently installed by another company and the installation was still under warranty.

Regardless of your negative review, your water heater installation still has warranty on the parts and tank until June 12, 2023 and we would be happy to honor these warranties should the need arise. As the one year labour warranty on the water heater lapsed on June 12, 2016, the service call labour would still be chargeable at our regular service call rates.

Rhonda, you failed in your review to mention that when I contacted you to discuss the service call, you ended the phone call by stating that you would be stopping payment on the cheque you paid us with. I am sure that you simply forget this small piece of information when you were writing the review but thought it was important to note.

Install of airconditioner

I was very impressed with the service and diligence of the Management at McKinnon. We had a few problems and they addressed the issues right away and even responded and fixed the same problem the next spring season without hesitation and to our satisfaction.

Our house is now cool and the new air conditioner is working as it should. I would and already have recommended McKinnon to friends, It is difficult to find organizations with such a commitment to customer service and satisfaction.

Air Conditioning -attic installation, kickspace heater, heated towel bar

Shody Shody Shody workmanship. Technicians spent more time going to local Home Depot for parts/tools etc they did not have. Completely unprepared upon arrival. Main technician probably spent 8 out of 9 hours on the phone with his girlfriend the one day I was on site. Brand new ceilings ruined when cutting holes for registars, all crooked, some just cut too big. Ended up asking them to leave our house. When we pointed out that they had forgot their ladder the main technician Mike couldn't be bothered loading it so he just told us to keep it.....that pretty much says it all. Wrote a detailed email to owner to let him know the things we were unhappy about, his response was laughable. We had to have someone else come in to finish the job

Company Response

Thank you for the review. To clarify and for the record, we were more than happy to rectify any of the issues but the client cancelled the scheduled appointment. This was very convenient as they currently owe us the amount of $2772.91 since January.

New Water Tank

Our water tank started leaking the Friday of a long weekend and didn't really know who to call. I'm glad that I called McKinnon, as the replacement process was flawless. Barry T, was very helpful and ensured that a new tank was ordered and ready for installation the following Monday (even though he was out of town for the weekend). The installation crew were very efficient, clean and left no trace that they were ever there (other than a new tank with hot water). Highly recommended!!

Aprilaire Humidifier install

Aprilaire humidifier installion.

The unit if great but the service from McKinnon was Zero stars. I should have listened to the other reviews on Home star. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they were advertised on CityTV etc.

The installer was not helpful and wasn't personable. Very indifferent with explaining the function and features of unit.

After install there was an error light that went on. I tried contacting Micheal the owner and he was rude and condescending. Brushed me off.

I agree with people who gave zero stars.

Thumbs down.

Relocated and installed new gas water heater.

Relocated and installed new gas water heater. All venting, required electrical and piping included. Team drained, disconnected and removed existing rental heater and made arrangements to return to provider within one week.
McKinnon's quote beat another by over $500.00! The initial on-site quote was complete 2 days following initial enquiry and call with Sales Associate - knowledgeable, timely and detailed. I would recommend McKinnon to friends and family.

Install tankless water heater in condo

PERFECT! ZERO COMPLAINTS! When Michael walked through my door it was like all my prayers had been answered. I was extremely nervous about switching out from a tank system to tankless especially because it required all new ducting in my condo. McKinnon was professional, honest and respectable from the start. All the staff are extremely kind and sincere. They kept all their promises; on time completion, of product quality and the type of work necessary. No hidden surprises. Highly recommended. I am very very happy. Wish I knew of them sooner!!!! It was a breeze and I feel very comfortable with my new unit with a company I know I can trust. THANK YOU!

Replace older boiler with new high efficiency boiler in century home

Our 14 year old boiler was declared broken in mid-March by Enercare. With no heat heading into a late cold snap, we had to move fast.

Michael, the owner, provided great advice. So did some competitors, but we elected to give the job to McKinnnon since they tied for the best price and offered solid advice.

McKinnon's team arrived on time, first thing on the day after we agreed to buy. They did a good job of working in our ancient boiler room, brought the direct venting pipes through a finished basement bedroom very clean and tight to the wall, with minimal damage and mess. They worked until midnight to finish the job in one day, and expertly installed a new bleed valve on a very old paint-covered cast iron rad so they could refill the system. (Other vendors have refused to work with these old paint-covered rads). When I returned home the next day, the house was warm, and there was nothing to clean up.

We were very pleased with Michael and McKinnon's advice, work, value for money, and responsiveness. I would recommend them.
