A1 Air Conditioning & Heating

On November 2005, I bought and paid for (via Home Depot) a 2-Stage TUX060R93BW (XL-90) Trane Furnace but instead, A-1 Air Conditioning, the certified installer under contract with Home Depot, installed a SINGLE-STAGE, MUCH LOWER CAPACITY, LOWER PRICE TUX0C936D3 (XR-90). It was the Trane personnel who discovered the substitution. Also, Direct Energy which is currently maintaining the furnace found out that the pipes installed is smaller considering the distance of the furnace to the wall and length of the AIR INTAKE or OUTAKE; the reason the furnace keeps on 'dying.'

It my opinion, the substitution was either intentional or the personnel involved in this installation were grossly incompetent.

Instead of replacing the wrong unit installed, I accepted the refund of the price difference because I believed then that the owners have nothing do to with the substitution.

An Update:

Upon reading the above, Peter Messenger, A1 president, offered to replace the old Trane unit with a more powerful 80,000BTU Carrier furnace. And he did, last December 9, 2014.

I tried to turn the heat on last week but the furnace would not start. The air conditioner was working fine so that really blew my mind. I called A1 and they came the same day. Turns out that a bird had built a nest in the exhaust and caused the h=whole furnace to shut down. He diagnosed it fast and even replaced my filter or me. I thought the price was cheap too. These guys are fast and honest. pretty hard to find these days.

Our 20 year air conditioner finally had to be replaced (we had a friend try to revive it but it only survived two months). We obtained four quotations. A1 was not the least expensive but Richard Preston, the salesperson, was very credible and offered the most appealing variety of air conditioners. We also liked Richard’s informative, objective presentation. On installation day (less than a week after the sale) two technicians arrived at our door on time (7:00 a.m.). They were very professional and completed the job in about four hours. I noted that the outside unit had a slight dent one panel. I photographed the dent and sent Richard an e-mail attaching the photo. He contacted the General Manager (Rolf von Estorff): within an hour the panel had been replaced. At the end of the job, Mike, one of the technicians, walked us through the installation (air conditioner and humidifier) and gave us plenty of useful advice (he very kindly cooperated with me video recording him so that we would remember it all!). It’s now been over a week since the new air conditioner was installed. It’s working beautifully. I have no hesitation in very highly recommending A1.

From the first call to final installation I received professional and knowledgeable help, courteous, superb workmanship, and excellent service. Could not be happier. This was the right choice.

A1 arrived earlier than scheduled as we were out of AC on the most humid weekend of the summer. They were courteous and professional. When we need any further services A1 will be our choice.

As the summer heat finally got to our family we decided it was time to turn on the AC and oh oh no air or power!! We have dealt with A1 for many years. Several years ago we investigated replacing our 30 year old air conditioner. While others were prepared to sell us a new one without question, the A1 rep pointed out that energy savings would not cover the cost, and it was better to stick with the old one. At 34 years, the old AC finally died. we got quotes from A1 and another well regarded company. A1 offered the most economical, high efficiency replacement, and we were pleased to go with A1.

We have been completely satisfied with our dealings with A1 over the years, and the sales approach and installation of our new air conditioner were excellent. We haven't hit summer yet to know if there will be any issues with the unit, but we are confident that A1 will be there to sort things out if needed. We highly recommend A1.

We have been dealing with A-1 since 1999. They replaced the furnace at that time and our air conditioner in 2004. They have been handling maintenance on that equipment ever since. So when it was time to switch to a high-efficiency furnace and a tankless water heater due to a main floor renovation we were undertaking, we called A-1. Their prices are competitive, the product is reliable and the service has always been top-notch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend A-1.

When we first moved into our house we knew that our furnace was warmer than usual from our house inspectors, so right away, we had an A1 technician come to service the furnace and to see what's wrong. It turns out the air exchanger inside the furnace needed replacing, and of course, it's one of the few very expensive items that was not covered by the warranty. Instead of telling us just to buy a new part, the technician, took out the air exchanger, brought it out to manufacturing company in Mississauga to see if it could be fixed, and came back several hours later, telling us that it just needed a good clean. He popped it back in, and the furnace was good as new. He saved us a lot of money.

When our original furnace failed, I was told to call A 1, misunderstood and called another company with a similar name..my first mistake. We ended up with a terrible install and a furnace that failed within a year. That furnace failed on New Years Day and A1 was there to bail us out. The install was a unique and difficult one due to venting etc and lots of modifications needed to be made..we were actually concerned that it couldn't be done but Perry and his crew of Chris and Mike were brilliant!! They arrived on time on the coldest day of the year and worked hard inside and outside in -40 temps to make sure we had heat!! Never so happy spending money!!! I would only ever deal with A1 from here on in! I have dealt with the other guys and it cost me money and peace of mind...not again now that we are with A1 Their follow up service and post install inspection has also impressed us!
