Brick replacement

I called Red Robin to have some crumbling bricks replaced at the side of our house - a small job, but the work and attitude by Red Robin were anything but. Mike and Dave were both so professional and took the time to make a special visit to make sure they would have the right brick to match the exisiting ones on our hundred-year-old house.

When the crumbling bricks were removed and many more came out and had to be re-laid, there was no extra charge or grumbling from them. I came home to a job completed and the cleanup was impeccable.

Would definitely use them again and will highly recommend to others. Thanks again!

Replaced bricks on crumbling chimney & installed flashing

Dave was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. I contacted three other companies to repair/replace several spalling bricks on our chimney but they all wanted to replace the entire chimney for $3000+. Dave was the only honest one of the bunch, and he agreed that the chimney only needed some bricks replaced. He explained to me how the other companies want to make the job worth their while and was not surprised to hear I was told to replace the whole thing. He gave me a very competitive quote for the chimney, installation of flashing (since it currently didn't have any!) as well as spot tuckpointing around the house. There were several scheduling delays due to the incredibly wet spring we had but Dave was very communicative and excellent about keeping me updated. His crew did a great job, and cleaned up the site. Some of my garden got a little mashed but I know the scaffolding set up was more complicated than he anticipated and I was not charged more than quoted - so I was willing to let it slide. I highly recommend Red Robin, and I will definitely use them again in the future.

retaining wall aesthetic treatment

My partner and I purchased a recently renovated home. One thing that was not corrected in the renovation was the retched retaining wall in the front of the house. It's a block wall that borders our parking pad. Rather than rebuild the wall, Dave suggested that we just put stone facing on the wall.
We couldn't be happier with the result. Not only does the work look great but it was much less expensive than the other quotes we received that suggested we have the wall rebuilt. We're very impressed with our Red Robin experience!

Brick Replacement

I was having problems with bricks below a window sill. I had a stone sill installed about 4 years ago. Many of the bricks below had deteriorated. Mike found a perfect brick match. He also advised me that the reason for the deterioration was due to an improper window sill. The sill lacked a drip edge. They managed to etch a drip edge into the bottom of the sill. The work looks great. I was very satisfied with the work and the price Red Robin offered.

Replace concrete steps and relevel concrete pad

I called Red Robin Masonry to get a quote to replace the front steps for my parent’s home. The stairs had started to crumble at the base and the concrete pad needed to either be re-leveled or replaced. We chose Red Robin over a competitor whom we hired previously as their quote was competitive and they also had good feedback on Homestars.

After two scheduling delays, Mike and the crew showed up to begin work in August. Although the workmanship was good, we did not expect the concrete pad to be removed as we were originally advised it did not need replacing. We advised after the fact the concrete pad needed to be replaced as it could not be re-leveled to work with the new pre-cast steps.

As well, there were two unforeseen events that required additional work and cost: The old concrete was so thick that their jackhammer was inadequate, and a heavy duty jackhammer had to be rented to complete the demolition. Secondly, the old steps were backfilled with dirt/rocks that needed to be removed before the new steps could be installed.

These two unforeseen events resulted in a final bill that was significantly higher than the original quote (40% in this case). As a result, we were at an impasse as I did not agree on what the additional costs would be beforehand. We appreciate Mike used his own pickup truck to make a couple of runs to dispose of the dirt. However, if we had been advised of what the additional disposal costs would be for the extra disposal, I would have suggested a more cost-effective alternative – even if it meant a delay in completing the job. Fortunately we were able to come to terms and settle the bill.

In summary, Red Robin did a good job in replacing my parent’s front steps. The parging around the new stairs looks like it was part of the original porch. Next time we will make sure to get everything in writing so that any unforeseen events that may result in additional costs are discussed and agreed upon before proceeding further.

In summary, aside from a much higher than expected cost, Red Robin did a good job in replacing my parent’s front steps, and the parging around the new stairs looks like it was part of the original porch.

repair chimney

Would like to thank Dave and his associates did a good job on my chimney. After the job was done, their cleanup team made every effort to clean the dirt and everything to make sure the alley looked clean. Dave also called me to several times to follow up and make sure I was satisfied.
Thank you for the nice job done.

Tuckpointing

I needed alot of tuckpointing done on my house which was missing sections of mortar in several area and I contacted Red Robin after seeing their reviews online. They came early and began work but after talking with the workers I discovered that they mixed the wrong mortar due to a mixup. They quickly removed the mortar from a few areas of repair, mixed up a fresh batch of the softer mortar for my older house and completed the work. After they finished I noticed they missed a section because the workers wrongly thought there was a power cable close to the area - it was a cable line. I notified Red Robin and a manager came by to complete the job - it is this attention to detail and 100% satisfaction guarantee that I really appreciate. A job well done and I would highly recommend Red Robin.

Demolish and rebuild of front porch foundation

I have been very pleased with both the quality of the work performed and the professionalism of Mike and his team. I had a front porch that did not have an appropriate foundation so Mike’s team demolished and rebuilt the foundation, working under a city building permit. Their quote was reasonable and fair. Mike kept me informed of every step along the way, including discoveries of issues that needed solutions or when they had to reschedule due to weather issues. I always knew what the status of the job was. Even Dave would communicate with me when Mike wasn’t able to. Mike took the initiative to contact both the city inspector when dealing with problems, as well as with neighbours who were impacted by the work on my house. Clean up every day was excellent – even the neighbours commented on that. Mike even suggested that a smaller job wasn’t necessarily needed, so that was refreshing to hear (although I still had the job done and it was done to excellent standards). I can’t stress enough the excellent quality of the work and their work ethic. They had completed a smaller job for me a few months ago; I had paid for the job but Mike advised Dave to hold off on processing the payment because something wasn’t quite right. I felt that I could completely trust them to work in my best interests. I would hire them again in an instant. I thank them for their excellent work, support and patience with me.

Tuck pointing

Red Robin provided us with a reasonable written estimate and kept to their timeline. When they completed the work, we were surprised that the final invoice was less than what we had originally been quoted.
