Had Trevor in to fix the furnace on one of my rental properties, he was very friendly and explained exactly what he was doing, he made it very easy to understand what was going on. He was pro-active and gave suggestions for duct cleaning. I will be using your services for duct cleaning in the future, and I’ve recommended my son use you as well!

We were experiencing some water back-up and slow draining. The technician, Chris, is a real nice guy. He exemplifies professional attitude and skill. He was very open and informative and our problem is now fixed! We did have a miscommunication regarding the Quote, however the staff were as accommodating as they could be under the circumstances and did their best to mitigate and make sure we were satisfied with the job and the price.

I'm glad that we had Chris out to see you, he's a great guy and an even better technician! I was informed about that miscommunication regarding our $99 main drain special and we have taken action to ensure the CSRs are able to inform our customers of exactly what it entails - I'm glad we were still able to help you out, but I do apologize if anything was unclear! We'll do our best (with your helpful comments) to remedy the problem!

Durning the recent cold snap the furnace stopped working. Our technician Trevor is a fantastic guy. I really appreciate the work he did. He explained what he was doing, was pleasant to deal with. He did a great job. Being in the plumbing industry myself, it is nice to be able to give a compliment.

It's always nice to receive a compliment from someone in the same field as us! It just goes to show that with the right technician, an unfortunate situation doesn't always have to be an unpleasant one. We're lucky to have Trevor on board with us and we appreciate you saying so as well!

Hot water tank maintenance

I was supposed to get my hot water tank maintenance done today, as I got one installed from them approximately a year ago. I had scheduled it for 8am because i work downtown and cannot afford to take a full day of work waiting for somebody to show up. By 830am nobody had showed up, so i called the company to find out what's up. They said there had been an emergency elsewhere and they needed the plumbers/technicians. Which is fair enough, I don't have a problem with my appointment being pushed due to an emergency. My problem comes when nobody from the company calls to let me know there is a major delay in my service. At the very least i would have expected a coutesy phone call that way i'm not wasting my day at home instead of at work. Another issue is this is the second time I've had to call them to find out there is a delay in my service. Last year when I got my hotwater tank installed they were 2hrs late, at that time i called again 30min after my 8am appointment and they said the technican was stuck in traffic so they would send a different guy out instead. Again why did i have to call to find out this information. The company should atleast try and keep there customers informed of any delays.

Hi there Colin - I spoke to you the day you left this, but I figured I'd acknowledge you on here as well. First of all, my most sincere apologies for the lack of communication. It's not the way we like to do business and I'll admit that the surprise cold snap put a severe strain on our facilities. Nevertheless, you're absolutely right, a phone call should have occured - and typically it does! I'm glad you're happy with the complimentary year of planned service we've provided, including complimentary maintenance on your furnace, and I'm glad we're able to put this behind us! See you on Friday!!

Plumbing work

These guys were pretty good, they were punctual, did the job for the amount they quoted and I have not had any problems since. I have had trouble with other plumbing contractors, so I was nervous, but they delivered.

I'm sorry to hear you've had some negative experiences with plumbers before - unfortunately this is not a new thing for us! Some of the most common stories we hear from customers are how either A) the ACTUAL price (usually given when the job is half done) is incredibly higher than the phone "quote" (although what some call quotes, we call guesses!) or B) The price was cheap.... but so were the parts, the labour and the company. This usually results in us going out and fixing many of these "cheap" jobs. Luckily, with Homestars, prospective customers can find honest reviews by actual homeowners/customer! I'm glad we could help you Brie, I'm glad the service exceeded your expectations!

A leak appeared to be coming from a newly installed dishwasher. The technician was very professional, very clear and the price that he gave was exact. We are happy with the work that was done, the technician was very efficiant, he was thorough investigating where the leak was coming from. We are happy with the overall experience.

Isn't it the worst when you have a newly installed appliance that doesn't work the way it's supposed to? Our fridge water line leaked all over the place after installation just last week - I wasn't too impressed!

I'm glad you enjoyed the way we do things - the exact price, up front, before you give the go ahead! This is also why we can afford to be as thorough as we are - many companies charge per hour, therefore both you and the technician have to "watch the clock" - literally! With us, the price is quoted up front, and no matter how long we take on that task, the price DOESN'T CHANGE!! This means our guys are able to take just as long as they need, both to diagnose and repair! You can relax knowing the job is going to get done right AND knowing exactly what it's costing BEFORE you go ahead with it!

Nothing like peace of mind!

Clearview sent out Chris to help me with a clogged sink. Chris was polite as well as being neat and tidy. I found him to be very informative, answering any questions I had and even provided (as well as explained) different options with exact pricing up front to resolving the problem! He was very courteous and professional!

Would you believe that "neat and tidy" is not a critical part of every plumbing company's M.O.? Based on the stories we hear from customers that used other companies and subsequently turned to us, it's not all that uncommon, especially with drain clearing. Nine times out of ten, a drain is clogged over time due to debris and residuals that gather slowly. This leads to a pretty nasty clog that can sit in a dank, dark drain for days, weeks or months. This is, of course, the LAST thing you would want flying around your house while a power auger is removing and you'd be appalled to know just how often that happens - and how often their house is left like that! It wouldn't be the first time that we've come to a job site that's been left in a nasty state and not only resolved the problem that the "cheap" guy couldn't, but also clean up their messes too! And we're happy to do it, because it leaves our customers smiling every time - just the way we want it!

$99 Drain Clearing & Cam

ClearView plumbing in my opinion does not seem to have any ethics whatsoever. How they attempted to scam me into paying "six to nine thousand dollars" for a service which I did not need seems borderline illegal to me. Here is a detailed account of my experience.

On October 18th 2010, I was experiencing a back up in my main drain. This is the pipe that leads from my house to the city's sewer line. Any drainage from my house began to pool in my downstairs shower. A very messy situation to say the least. I've experienced expensive plumbing bills in the past so I decide to do a little research on the internet and found the "$99 sewer clearing service". Not only do they clear your drain, they will send a camera down to find the "root" of the problem… Pun intended. So I call ClearView and set up an appointment. They inform me that there will be a small dispatch fee which I agree to. I forget exactly how much they quoted me for the fee however they didn't end up charging me a dispatch fee anyways which is always a bonus.

On October 21st 2010, a drain clearer from ClearView shows up and spends about an hour clearing the drain. One of the nicest plumbers you could hope for so I was happy with the service at this point. After he left, I began to experience the problem again while having a shower before heading to work. I then called ClearView and within a couple hours, he came back and finished the job properly. At this point I was still a happy customer. My drain was cleared and the plumber set up an appointment for their company drain camera specialist to have a look at my pipe. I would just like to note that the plumber informed me that their camera man was one of "the best" and could tell me right away the cause of my drainage problems.

About a week later, the camera specialist shows up to take a look at my main drain. Before he even started his work, he informed me that tree roots are a very common problem for main drains in my area (Killarney, Calgary). You can imagine that this comment already scared me into thinking the worst. The "specialist" then began feeding his camera down the main drain. Within the first 10-15 seconds he was already informing me of the problems with my pipe. Every meter or so, he would tell me he found another tree root. He would then ask me to look at the screen. As I'm no expert on interpreting low quality imagery of the inside of a drainage pipe, I was unable decipher what I was seeing. I did however I make a mental note that I did not see anything that resembled a root. Every time he would tell me to look at the screen, he would then push the camera further within seconds so I had no chance to properly view image. By the end of this camera session, he had informed me of at least 8 root problems and an area of pipe that could potentially collapse.

At this point, I'm terrified to even ask how I can rectify this problem. The specialist then informs me that they offer a service where they will line my pipe from the inside to prevent future root problems or a potential collapse. He tells me that this is my only option other than digging up my front yard to completely replace to line. He then informs me that this service will cost me anywhere from "six to nine thousand dollars". You can only imagine how I'm feeling by this point. Before he leaves, he makes sure to inform me that if I don't act soon, the pipe could collapse and cause me to rip up my finished basement.

At this point, I'm having a mental breakdown. My girlfriend, being of sound and calm mind, decides to do a little research to help me out. Over the next couple days, she calls the city and they immediately send s drain cleaner to clear the drain and do a little camera work of their own. Apparently the city will do this for you whenever there is a drainage problem with your main line. They must do this to determine if there is a problem on the city's side. This service is included in your property taxes,,, who knew? After they promptly cleared the line, they gave me a number to call to have their camera specialist look at the line.

After some procrastination due to the fear of results from my second opinion, I call the city camera specialist who showed up today (Dec 15, 2011). They sent a camera down my line and found no roots whatsoever. Not only did they find no roots, they saw no evidence of a potential collapse of pipe. The only thing they found was build up of grease which is common from years of use. They then informed me how to could remedy this problem myself for under $60!

The moral of the story is that ClearView tried to scare me into buying a service which was 100% unnecessary. Not only would this service put me in the poor house, it would decrease the diameter of my existing drainage line which could potentially cause additional problems in the future! I don't know how this is not considered illegal? Maybe it is? Either way, I've wasted enough of my time even writing about this experience. I'd really love to hear ClearView's explanation for this one. Either it's policy to use scare tactics for selling their products or they have one lousy camera specialist.

PS: There is an internet add for ClearView on the Ripoffreport.com website. How ironic!

*** Update January 26th 2012 ***

I've read the response given by Clearview. In my original review, I never stated I had any problems with the $99 drain cleaning. They did a fine job and the drain cleaner was a really nice guy. My drain is still cleared to this day. My complaint was about wrong information given and the approximate verbal quote I received from the camera inspector. I have no reason to be making up stories about what was told to me. There was mention of root problems and and area that could possibly collapse. I was told that they could fix the problem by putting a liner in the pipe for "six to nine thousand dollars". I didn't even know this procedure existed until then. You may not have given me a printed quote but this was the information I was given by your employee. When the city came and inspected the line, they found no roots, possible collapse, or any reason to put a liner in the pipe. They found area with grease built up and instructed me to rent an auger to clear them. One way or another, I was given inaccurate information by your employee.

In your response to my complaint you said: "I'm not sure how a misunderstanding this large could occur, but I do apologize if it did". I'll accept the apology and we'll move on.

I'm sorry for the service you feel you've received but I believe there may be a misunderstanding, at least according to my Drain Supervisor of many years who personally helped you with this. At no point did we mention collapses, or roots or even options and pricing to rectify those issues, quite the opposite! I'm not sure how a misunderstanding this large could occur, but I do apologize if it did. I would, however, like to mention for any readers that the customer got a $99 drain clearing, which INCLUDED a free camera inspection and when we got out there we cleared the drain for him - one of the best deals in town. The drain backed up again, so we went out to help him again, at no additional cost. Our Drain Supervisor was called out and we discovered that the drain line, at the city side, was still submerged in drain water! Because it was a city issue, not only did we not quote any repairs, we actually told the customer to call the city, as it was an issue on their side of the drain line. Of course when the city was called, prior to the actual camera inspection they would have cleared the issue on the city side. This of course, results in zero findings whatsoever when the city drain inspection was actually booked, some time later (as stated by the customer).

I'm apalled at the mention of "fear tactics" - this is something we take a strong stance on, and would never employ them, especially in a situation where third party investigations would render all "fear tactics" as inaccurate. It should also be noted that the "ripoffreport.com" article is from 2003 or 2004, the customer has been duly compensated and has since used our company dozens of times.

Please give us a call in the office, we'd love to set up a meeting with our drain supervisor as well as the city if you'd like - we want to get to the bottom of this situation, as the last thing we want is for an unhappy customer left with such a misunderstanding.

I had Clearview out in the past to do work for me and I recently called to discuss some ballpark pricing over the phone. Because they don't give guesstimates over the phone I didn't end up booking a technician initially. The customer service manager called back and explained the value of having an experienced technician over and since I was a planned service member, it was at no cost to me. We had John perform the quoted work and he was amazing! He was so willing to jump in and locate the specific toilet on short notice and rush it right back for installation that day, and the work he did was great. He also did a free inspection and offered some valuble safety advice and recommendations on items I didn't even think of. He was courteous, pleasant and professional and I feel really went the extra mile.

Water tank replacement

Just recently, I came home to discover that my basement was flooded and that one of the water pipes in my home had burst. I called around to several plumbers and the Clearview was the first company that was able to have an emergency crew at my home within 2 hours.

These guys did a great job, they came in and accessed the situation and provided my with a guaranteed fixed price estimate of what it would cost to fix the situation.

Their plumbers were very friendly and professional, they explained the situation and provided me with different options. They were very neat and tidy in that they had drop clothes that they laid out around the work area and they wore shoe covers to prevent tracking of dirt through the home.

Unfortunately, it was an emergency situation and I didn't have enough time to get several quotes and compare their prices to other companies. After the fact, I did research on the internet at other reviews, and discovered that they are higher priced. As well, I was talking to my parents that had replaced their Hot Water Tank a few months earlier, and the price they paid was about 40% cheaper than what I paid to get my Hot Water Tank replaced. I guess this is one of the ways that they can afford to offer fixed price guarantees on their estimates.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Clearview Plumbing to handle any plumbing situation that you may have. They may be a little more expensive that some of the other companies out there, but you will feel much better knowing that you have someone fixing your problem that knows what they are doing.

Thanks for your comments, it's always nice to hear customers that understand our pricing. True, there are always cheaper options - cheap being the key word - but the fact of the matter is we're often called out to fix those cheap installations! What many people don't realize is what a severe turnover Calgary has for independant plumbing companies. Unfortunately all it takes for a company to close their doors is under-charging for work and subsequently putting themselves out of business - and their customers out of a warranty! I think your last sentence sums us up nicely: "They may be a little more expensive than some of the other companies out there, but you will feel much better knowing that you have someone fixing your problem that knows what they are doing". Couldn't have said it better myself!
