Sewer line replacment

I have been taken advantage of in an emergency situation and have been grossly over billed for the replacement of a broken sewer pipe.

I did not receive the proper documentation of estimates or warranties.

I waited almost 5 months for the job to be completed and then still had to complete it myself.

I was told by the owner that it was this businesses habit to charge 20% more then their competitor as they felt they offered better service then the competitors.

Company Response

Hi there Dave, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with Clearview Plumbing and Heating. As a standard we ensure that we finish jobs to completion in the correct manner while maintaining fair prices (not to low as to undercut ourselves but not too high either). We also like to ensure that we have the proper documentation for all repairs especially sewer pipes as they can be big and expensive jobs. As these are our common business practices it shocks me to find that you've had such a negative experience with us and I invite you to call into our office at (403)-216-8439 in order to explain your situation further so that we can try and work something out and make you a happy customer again. I look forward to hearing from you.

fixing an old leaky fridge line

Our fridge line was leaking up through the floor and I called clearview to come and fix it. They sent out a really great technician, he was very professional, and knowledgable. He explained what he was doing and the steps he needed to take to finish the job. Very happy with this service

Air Conditioning Quote

We had someone from Clearview come in to give us an estimate on installing 2 AC units in our home -- new construction, the rough-in (lines, coils, etc.) was provided by the builder. Someone came in to give us a quote the same day (Monday), and said install could be done on Wednesday. The quote seemed reasonable, and due to the quick install time we agreed to go ahead without calling in others for comparison purposes. Payment (full amount) was processed on Tuesday. No one showed up on Wednesday. We called and the receptionist told us that there was some outstanding information, but she wasn't sure what it was and would get back to us. On Thursday night we called to check on the status of the install, and found out that some internal discussion was taking place regarding the price (apparently we were quoted too low), but we were told it would get sorted out. We didn't hear anything back until I called on Monday to check on status. We were then told that they wouldn't install the units at the quoted price because they would be taking a loss. That was it. After an awkward silence I stated that I might be sympathetic to their position if they hadn't processed my payment a week ago. The rep then agreed that my payment should be refunded. I'm hoping I won't have to call 3 times to get that to happen.
This experience was bizarre, and I might call it laughable if not for the heat wave we experienced last week. I can only conclude that they managed to line up some other jobs on which the margin was higher, making our job not worth the time. Not an unheard of business strategy, but an interesting/unexpected one in light of their "Two Clear Rules". Brutal.

Ted,

I apologize for the service you've had a negitive experience with us, there is no excuse for the level service you have received, and for that I apologize. I can assure you this is not the norm, in this specific case the technician undersold the unit by so much that, we simply could not install the unit for that large of a loss. As stated in our phone conversation you refund will br processed today. Again I sincerely apologies for the dissapointment and all the inconviences.

Furnace maintenance program

Clearview has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They constantly try to sell you memberships to their special maintenance programs and then when you finally get to book an appointment they constantly cancel and reschedule. I am shocked by all of the positive reviews from other people about Clearview. We've had nothing but trouble and I wish we had gone with someone else. I really can't be more clear. We are pretty tolerant and low-maintenance customers, I've never bothered to write a review for anything before but I'm so frustrated and disappointed with the level of service from Clearview I felt I just had to. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere! You will regret choosing Clearview, I guarantee it.

Clearing plumbing drains

We had an emergency situation on the weekend where our plumbing backed up. We called a few companies but they were the only ones who could come out immediately. (one of the other companies wanted to actually book us an appointment for the following week!)
Their technician was very knowledgeable (taught everything you wanted to know about toilet plumbing but were afraid to ask!) and made sure that we approved everything he did before he did it. We felt very comfortable with knowing that he was not gouging us.
Best of all, he unplugged our lines!
Would definitely recommend them.

Toilet repair

EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES! They wanted to charge $550.00 to fix a toilet and we were supplying the parts. The toilet probably had to be lifted but still that is a ridiculous amount. I can buy 2 or 3 toilets for that price.

Not very prompt at all

Did not have the proper instructions that we had set up with the receptionist

Technicians were very professional

Furnace repair

My tenants called informing me there was something wrong with the furnace as there was no heat coming from it for the last few days. Worried that it might get too cold at night for their kids, I wanted to get this resolved as quickly as possible. The Gas company was at the house earlier in the day and advised me of the problem and what exactly needed to be fixed so I made some calls to a few different places to see how soon they could get out to fix the problem. Most of them were unable to make it there the same day or charged ridiculous dispatch fees. Clear view advised they could come out today and would charge me regular hrs dis patch fee even though it might be after hours and told me they could have it fixed today since they carry parts with them. I asked them to please let me know when they arrived so I could go over to my property if I needed to. The repair man was helpful as he called me when he arrived at the property and told me he would just call me back when he was done checking it out. He then called me again to advise of the problem and that he didn't have the part but another van did at another site so he would go there and get the part, come back and repair it and I asked him to pls call me back. He did exactly that so it saved me lots of time going back and forth between my houses. I went over in person to pay him and he even waived the dispatch fee for me. The service was definitely good (thanks Gerry) and I'm glad they could get it fixed the same day. Good service but in my opinion - but it still seemed a bit pricey compared some of the others but they were the only ones that could do the same day service which is what I really needed.

Doreen,

We are glad you shared your experience with us and will be sure to pass the compliments to Gerry. We love hearing about our clients' experiences after the work is done and appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback!

Our prices are carefully crafted and adjusted quarterly. - what we do is quote UP FRONT, prior to the work being performed, so that the homeowner can make an informed decision based on the exact price, as opposed to an hourly rate plumbers low-ball guesstimate. You're right - we are not the cheapest in town and will never aspire to be!! But nor are we the most expensive, believe it or not! We ensure we're within 10%-20% (higher and lower) than who WE consider to be our competition.

Water heater stopped working

I am glad that I saved myself of being ripped off. I called Clearview after going through their website to inspect my Giant electric water heater (6000 W, 240 V) which stopped working just after 3 years of use. After inspection the technician told me that the heater elements need to be replaced and they may not be easily available. He adviced me to get rid of this heater and install a new gas fired one. The estimates he gave me with different options were,
1. Tankless heater with water softener: $11630
2. New gas fired heater with installation and 6 year service: $3674
3. New gas fired heater with installation and one year service: $3179
4. New electric water heater with installation and 3 year service: $2897
5. New electric water heater with installation and 1 year service: $2699
6. Replace elements: $916.67
The technician insisted that I better replace my heater. I paid him the visit fee $69 and said good-bye. I checked the avaialbility of the heating elements in Calgary. I got them from the manufacturer's dealer for $44. Installed myself after making some research on the net. It took me 40 min to install them. A professional plumber would do it in 20 min. So for $44 part and 20 min job Clearview quoated me $916.67. This is completely unethical and shameless practice. I gave them 1 in rating just because technician came on time and was quick to identify the problem and was nice to talk. the moral is, if you are going to Clearview do your homework before giving them any job.

Company Response

Nitin,

Thank-you for taking the time to share you feedback with us. You're right, some of our prices are higher than other companies (although not as high as others) but we do that for a reason! Many plumbing companies cut prices (and corners) which results in a few things - cheap (lower quality) technicians, cheap products and potentially going out of business due to underselling themselves - we see it all the time in the plumbing world and the real victims are the customers who have warranties with these guys! You'd be shocked at the turnover in small plumbing companies - check out the difference between the 2009 and 2011 yellow pages for examples!Just know that if you ever need a company (pushing 16 years old now!) that can be accountable, provide great service, use the best parts and have the best technicians, you know our number!

If you would like to discuss this further please give us a call in the office at 403.216.8439 to try and come to a resolution, it would be greatly appreciated.

Furnace Repair

Called Clearview because of the good reviews- it was a saturday and my furnace had stopped working. Dispatch/lady was polite - said it was 99.00 charge to come out on the weekend to diagnose issue rather then 69.00 on regular work day (due to after hrs charge). The guy came on time, was clean and was friendly. He diagnosed the issue with no problems - then proceded to give a quote to repair. Now the 2 issues were as follows. #1. The 99.00 was just to come out, and did NOT include diagostics as I was led to believe. I even said to the lady on the phone that 99 was reasonable since Enmax charges 189 for coming out and inspecting after hrs. The repair man added 109 (inspection fee) on top of the 99.00 to make it 208.00 (pricier then enmax services). My advise is to the reception is to be more clear when explaining what after hour rates include. #2. The quote to replace the part was $850.00, which to me seemed steep for one part and in my estimation not more then 1 hrs effort. I asked why it was so much, he said that it included 1 service. At any rate, due to my price concern and thankfully the fact he did not have the part we did not fix it through clearview. I ended up buying the part for 139.00 and replaced it in 1/2 hr. A bit concerning when the quote was $850 (less the diagnostic charge if we fixed through them)..so $740...for something that should probably not been quoted more then 200 (including markup for the aprt and) 1 hrs labor - 100.00 maximum during regular hours.

They are competent in troubleshooting and nice, but I would not recommend to my mother or anyone that I would not want to get overcharged for the work they do.....
