I had my old furnace and AC replaced for my end unit town home. I have nothing but great things to say regarding to Boris, Kam and the cozy world team. I will list the items in point form for easy reading ;)
1. Initial estimate: Boris came by very quick to give a proper estimate. My unit is very challenging installation wise because the entire basement level is furnished! The challenge is to install a new pipe out of the house for exhaust purposes. Boris looked at the entire setup carefully, and he was very patient to explain all questions that I have. In the end, Boris wanted his chief installer (Kam) to come by the week after to make sure the installation is doable.
Kam came by early next week. He spend quite a bit of time looking at everything, poking and looking, and confidently decided that the installation was doable.
Also, both Boris and Kam recommended just want I need without overselling. The price quote that I got was very competitive.
I have other companies over, with claims that "yes, it is doable without even looking" to "no, it is not doable unless we poke 3 holes in your finished ceiling".
2. Email responses before commitment: Boris is very responsive to all my requests via email. I work in the computer industry, and personally I prefer to use email for communication. Boris is very accommodating.
3. Installation date: Once committed with the installation, Kam and the crew arrived on time. They worked diligently through the day, only taking 1/2 on a quick lunch. A few additional things that I noted during the installation day:
a. Craftsmanship is excellent. I talked to Kam about some install where duct tapes are used liberally all over the place. Kam told me that is not the correct way of using duct tape, as it should be used only for joints.
b. I have many questions for Kam during the day, and he took the time to explain all of them to me patiently.
c. In my old setup, I used to have a mess of small water pipes coming off from the main pipe. Kam cleaned up all the mess, and it is very neat and tidy. Less water connections = less chance of leaks ;)
d. BIG ONE: For AC install, my old install used to hang off the side of the house, on a metal platform. Under the platform is some hedges. Kam came by and advised me that it is better to have the AC sit on the ground rather than hanging off the side of the house, as the vibration can transfer to the house. But to do that, they have to remove the hedges, plus build a concrete platform for the AC. They did ALL of these, and made sure the concrete platform is built such that it will not slope out. I was very impressed with the work, as I would imagine most of the company will just reuse the overhung platform for the AC installation.
e. the crew were very tidy, and they even asked me for a vacuum when they removed the old furnace, to vacuum out the gunks which were not accessible when the furnace was in place. They had runners throughout the access path, and they cleaned up very well after the installation.
f. Boris (owner) came by in the morning of installation, to make sure everything was ok. Nice personal touch.
g. the extra exhaust vent needed was put in with NO need to open additional holes in the ceiling. My wife was very happy with this ;)
h. After everything was installed, Kam walk me through the entire setup, give me tips on setting up the new thermostat and about keeping the DC motor running all the time to help circulation.
i. The work was very professional, with everything tested to make sure the system runs at 100%
Day after installation:
1. Boris email me again to follow up and make sure the install was perfect, which it was.
2. The heating and cooling rebate was processed right away.
Overall:
Very satisfied with the install and the crew. I am sure the system will give me years of excellent services, and I am sure that Boris and his team will stand behind the product if needed.
- Approximate cost of services:
- $6,400.00
- Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- Pay attention to after installation services and warranties, as mechanical equipment do fail once in a while.
