I had a clogged sink and asked around for the name of a reliable plumber. Everyone recommended Westcom. Connor arrived on time and wore boot covers to keep my floors clean. He cleared the bathroom sink and now it runs easily! I’ll use Westcom again.

I had a leaky skylight and a local contractor told me that Proline Roofing was the best. Proline was on the job quickly for a quote and then did the work about a week later. Problem solved! I’ve just booked Proline to do my complete roof since it needs to be done now. I’m super impressed with this company.

Thanks to Dimitar and Rado for an excellent job! Rado called to see if I was available early for the work - when does that ever happen??? Nice to have a contractor arrive early for the job. On arrival, he was very kind to my two dogs, who were excited to meet someone new. One of my doors was new and wasn't yet drilled for a deadbolt. Rado drilled a hole for the new lock, expertly removed my high security lock from another door and replaced both doors with new locks, then suggested re-keying the locks so that the front and side doors open from the same key. Smart! Rado was personable and extremely competent. I highly recommend this company - would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends.

Manoj did a great job helping me to install the system over the phone. It was fast and easy. I feel so much safer having the system in place and will sleep better tonight. I like the app, it will be great if I ever forget to turn on the system when I'm away from the house.

I'm so pleased with Joel from Gates Wildlife Control. I just moved into this house and the electrician alerted me to some problems in the attic. I waited a few weeks (hoping the problem would magically go away) and then heard the pitter patter of little feet upstairs. Joel came on time and thoroughly evaluated the issue and determined the animals that were making my attic their home. His approach was to install one-way doors on their entrance spots on the roof to allow them to leave the attic but not return. He then came back twice while the doors were installed to make sure the squirrels were gone before removing the doors and sealing up the gaps. I'm so delighted with Gates and with Joel's work.

Maple Windows really came to my rescue. I bought a house and the previous owners left the screens hanging off the windows! Yitzie offered to clean the windows and screens, and re-hang the screens onto the windows. All of this, on a Sunday morning! Manoj did a fantastic job, and the windows look better than ever. He showed me some of the damage left by the previous owners on the screens and gave me some advice as to how to get them fixed. I'm extremely grateful to Yitzie and Manoj for taking such good care of my windows and getting them ready for what is sure to be a winter of snow and wind.

As I was getting ready to sell my home, I had to move most of my furniture in to storage to make room for the stager. I knew I would be using Cargo Cabbie - I've used them many times in the past for small furniture moves. They were fast and excellent - such an easy move. When it came time to get everything from storage and move it into my new house, Cargo Cabbie again helped with the move. There were lots of things going on at the house with tree removal, quotes for new windows and doors, but the one thing I knew would go well was the move because I used Cargo Cabbie. There were no surprises, no damage, and the movers again were faster than anticipated. I am so delighted to use Cargo Cabbie and I have recommended them to a friend who is moving at the end of September. Cargo Cabbie crews are friendly, professional, and fast - and very hard working. Can't recommend them enough.

Lorne came out to quote this work and take a look at the trees in the yard. These two trees were growing quickly and the Manitoba Maple was full of dry rot - what a mess. Lorne has a great sense of humour and also has a lot of experience with these trees so he was able to let me know what would happen with them over time. A few days later, Lorne and his crew came to take down the trees and they did so with a minimum of mess and cleaned everything up nicely. I've used this company in the past and it was the same quality of work. I would recommend this company to anyone needed tree work.

After moving in to a new house, I had several electrical projects that needed to be done. I looked on HomeStars and found HotWire Electric. I emailed HotWire with a description of the work and they gave me a quote back very quickly by email. On the day they were scheduled, Tyler and Jeremy arrived early (when does that ever happen?) and came into the house, immediately removing their shoes. I'm still unpacking and moving furniture around and yet Tyler and Jeremy were as polite and pleasant as could be, and worked around the piles of unpacked items in each room. When they ran in to a problem, they gave me a number of solutions and carefully explained the work and options to me. Quite often I've found in the past I've found that the electrician isn't actually doing the work; they often have an apprentice that does the work while the electrician is on the phone with other people. This is definitely not the case with these two. They both got to work installing a new ceiling fan, installing two outdoor GFIs, adding two new receptacles and installing a wired smoke alarm. They were polite and clean all the way through. I highly recommend this company and I'll be calling them back to do other projects when the need arises.

I just moved into my new house and discovered there were all kinds of creepy critters already calling it home. Thankfully, Iftekhar came to visit this morning and did a great job spraying to remove the unwanted co-habitants. He did a fabulous job explaining the process and what to do to get the most from the service. I bought the silver package so I am confident that if I see any more critters, I'll be covered for service for a full year. So glad I called this company - found them along with most of my other contractors on Homestars.

I had an urgent issue with a needed patch in my driveway. Enbridge moved the gas meter a few years ago and did a poor job with the asphalt around it. The asphalt eventually caved in. I called Danny this morning and he was here within two hours! He was able to effectively patch the hole and make the area look great. What a fantastic guy and so efficient. I'm really pleased. Next time I have to do any patching in my driveway, I'll be giving Danny a call!

I contacted Yitzie based on the excellent reviews his company has on HomeStars. His team came today to clean the eavestroughs. His team members were professional and friendly, and the work was done quickly and cleanly! I'm so impressed. I'll definitely use Maple Windows & Eaves next year. Thanks Yitzie!

I have hesitated to write this review pending the outcome of my flooring situation. Let me start by staying that if I were able to give a rating less than "0" to Downtown Flooring, I would. Last summer I did a lot of work on my tiny 1951 bungalow and the work I was most excited about was the installation of marmoleum in the kitchen, hallway and bathroom. The entire job was a disaster from start to finish. The first crew arrived and were dismayed about working in such a tiny old house. My little house has lots of plaster and uneven bits, but I think that's part of the charm. Apparently the Downtown Flooring people were horrified to be working in such a little house in my up and coming neighborhood. After insulting my home they deigned to do some of the demolition of the existing floor, and then the crew damaged the old subfloor by stepping through it and breaking some of the subfloor boards. A different crew came back to finish the work two days later. According to the contract, they were supposed to replace the old subfloor and install the marmoleum. But they decided not to replace the subfloor and instead to repair the holes in the subfloor made by the previous crew by screwing wood pieces in from under the floor (accessed in the unfinished part of the basement). They made a mess of the installation. When I arrived home, there were black glue marks all over the floor, cuts in the marmoleum, irregular seams and dirt and dust everywhere. Although they were supposed to install quarter-round, they decided instead to leave 10 lengths of quarter-round standing up in my tub. I guess they lost interest in my little house. While they were doing the work, they decided to take a coffee break and wandered up the street to the local coffee shop. They left my home unlocked and the dog sitter came by while they were out. She locked them out and when they sauntered back to my house they were angry about not being able to get back into the house. Luckily she was still in the area and was able to return and let them back into the house. I guess they figured there was nothing of value in my little house. I had work done on my house in advance of a family event being held at my home. While all of the other contractors met their commitments and did fantastic work, Downtown Flooring seemed to care very little about my event and why the work was important to me. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. My advice is to keep looking. After several conversations with the owner, Steven, he provided me with a full refund. After a year of living with this hellish work, I've just had someone else in to correct the mess and make my house livable again. Stay away from Downtown Flooring.

The starting situation: Last year I had flooring installed in my tiny bungalow and the installers did a terrible job. They left the baseboards and trim unfinished and though I tried to do it myself in a pinch, it looked awful. I was tired of looking at the half-finished trim and decided to get the work done properly. I did a search on Homestars and made some calls. After speaking with a few carpenters, I found Paul at Crowning Touch Trim. Paul came by to evaluate the work to be done and gave me some great ideas about things to improve the look of the kitchen, front foyer and bathroom. As promised, Paul called to confirm the day before starting the work, and then arrived on time the next day. He worked over the next few days to add trim to my kitchen, foyer and bathroom, working around me and my curious pets. The end result: Paul did more than complete the work - he made me feel good again about coming home. He did a masterful job of replacing all the trim and did a few other little things, like adding the door hardware onto a pocket door in the bathroom. But the best thing he did was restore my enjoyment of my home - he made the interior look finished and clean again. His excellent work, attention to detail, and friendly demeanor are qualities that recommend him to anyone looking for finish carpentry. I look forward to working with Crowning Touch Trim again in the future.

I have been looking for a security system and called a few companies for information - many of them called me repeatedly to get the sale, it was annoying. I decided to check Homestars for references. Skywire had great reviews so I called and spoke with Paul. He explained my options and costs, in a no-pressure conversation that made me feel comfortable with the products and services Skywire had available. Today, the alarm system and video monitoring were installed. Paul and his colleague worked efficiently to install the system in my tiny, old bungalow (with plaster walls) and to make the system work according to my needs. Paul patiently explained how to use the system and DVR. I like the fact that Skywire is my contact for questions or future system additions - I like the no pressure approach and the easy and thoughtful demeanor of the team. I would recommend Skywire to anyone looking for honest input on alarm needs and helpful, smart service and support.

Javier and his team are amazing! It's rare for me to rave about a moving company, but Cargo Cabbie is so much more. I called Cargo Cabbie to get some help to move some furniture in and out of my house, and to assemble two new pieces of Ikea furniture from the delivered boxes. Javier responded promptly and made the entire experience easy, working well within my timelines. He and his team navigated my tiny house and put up with my curious pets! I've used Cargo Cabbie in the past and will in future again and again - and I've recommended this company to many people. Thanks Javier!

I had a bit of a disaster in the front yard - half-dead sod, plants that weren't doing well, and weeds, weeds, weeds. I called Judy at East End and she came up the next day to provide a quote. East End came back a few days later and removed the old yucky sod, then added new plants to some of the ones I had already, and then put down beautiful black cedar mulch. The effect was amazing - I've had so many compliments and I'm pretty pleased. I was so delighted that I called Judy again to do work in the back garden! They were fantastic - thanks Judy!

This company is super organized. When I called, a salesperson came over almost immediately, and had all of the information for me to make a decision. Once I signed the contract, I received a follow-up call, thanking me for the business. The windows were installed quickly and well, with professional behaviour and attitude. Alex and Alan installed the windows and answered all of my questions. This company was great - great people, organized, and extremely professional. I would recommend them to anyone.

Mike is a fantastic guy, and his teams are wonderful. I've used Mike's company to put siding on my garage, and had him back again to fix the roof issues on a new peak at the front of the house. Once again, Mike's team were efficient, friendly, and went the extra mile to make sure that everything was perfect with the roof work. They did all the work that we had discussed, and when they noticed there was a problem with the flashing around the chimney, they took the initiative to fix that too. I've had nothing but fantastic service and outcomes from this company, I can't recommend them enough.

What a fantastic guy Murray is, and his assistant George too. Murray came to remove the toilet and vanity so that the flooring could be replaced. A week later, as scheduled, they returned to reinstall the toilet and vanity. When they reinstalled the vanity they also fixed a leak that had been bugging me for months. And then, they went out of their way and helped put back a pocket door that I couldn't handle! Murray was quick, kind, and on time, on both occasions. I can't recommend him enough.

Mike and his team did a fantastic job. I had a garage which was not well framed - the previous contractor didn't create a straight structure. Mike gave a great quote, and then his team of 3 guys completed the work over 2 days. Not only does the garage look great, but they did such an amazing job cleaning - you wouldn't even know that work had been done here. This is a fantastic company, I can't recommend them enough. I've hired Mike to do more work and already recommended him to friends. I'll use him again for anything I can - great company. Thanks Mike!

I wish I could give a rating of 11! Javier is a gem. After our previously scheduled movers failed to show up, we checked on Homestars for someone with great ratings. We found Cargo Cabbie and called - so glad we did! Javier was able to move us on short notice and committed to the move the morning following the call. Javier called in the morning to say they were five minutes behind - such a nice gesture. They arrived and completed the move, were polite and friendly, and sweet to my dog. We love these guys - can't wait to use them again.

Do not use this company. The movers arrived on time and were nice. However, the owner of the company said that the price was $140 + insisted on tax. He said he would provide a receipt. I paid the cost of the services and the tax to the movers - they said they only accepted cash. After following up numerous time with the owner he says won't provide a receipt. In essence, this guy is collecting tax and then not reporting it to CRA. He's a scammer - collecting more funds from customers than necessary. I'm disgusted with this guy's lack of integrity. His staff should go and work somewhere else - they were nice.

Dodd's was fantastic - great service and a fantastic garage door. I love the new garage door - and get lots of compliments. Sales and service were efficient and very professional. I replaced an old, falling apart manual door with a beautiful electric carriage door. I'm still thrilled every day I look at it!

Paul and Harold did a fantastic job for me - and I've already recommended them to friends. I found The Floormen on Homestars, read the reviews, and then called Paul. I called a few other companies too, and one of them told me that my old oak floors could not be refinished because of water and pet damage. But when Paul took a look at the floors and the damage he said that he and Harold could sand and refinish and make it look beautiful again! And it was true - the floors look amazing. Thank you so much, I'm so glad I refinished and I'm thrilled with the results.

I have an old magnolia that needed a good trim. It was also diagnosed with magnolia scale. Ontario Tree Experts came and gave the tree a great trim, cleaning up well. They also remembered to come back in the spring and fall to treat the tree for magnolia scale. These people are professionals and efficient. I highly recommend them.

Lorne quickly provided a quote after I contacted him. His team arrived on time and were friendly - they did a fantastic job removing the tree and cleaned up quickly too! I am so pleased with the work they did - and would highly recommend them.
