Ontree

After some research I first used Ontree in 2005. Jody came by in short order and provided a detailed estimate outline my instructions.
In 2012 I was again due for pruning of 4 trees and cabling of two large trees. Jody again was available in short order to provide a detailed written estimate.
All of the workers on site have been amazing, thorough, friendly and efficient and open to my small input when I ask for an extra limb or two removed or pruned back a bit more.

I find myself now due for more pruning and cable adjustments and will be calling Ontree very soon.

Ontree have been our arborists for years now, since we've had a house with a tree in the backyard. They are always punctual, responsive, and they always gave us reasonable prices and solutions. When our tree got sick with a disease where its leaves fell off prematurely, due to too much dampness that season, they encouraged us not to cut it down, as it's still alive and as it can recover, and they strengthened the tree with a fertilization treatment. We were very happy with that solution. They also prune our tree every few years to help maintain its health. We highly recommend them.

We interviewed a few different companies and we both selected ONTREE, independently. From Jody who priced the job, to Mike who supervised the project to Zita who handled scheduling and billing ... all were courteous and helpful. The price was fair and reasonable. We would not hesitate to recommend this company and will engage their services again.

After contacting a number of companies we found that Ontree was the most reasonably priced. We had a very professional able and safe working crew of 5 that easily handled the task and totally cleaned up to our sadisfaction Superior tools and equipment with a great work ethic made the job a breeze.

From customer service to quote to actual work done, I have nothing but positive things to say about this company. I recently removed all the trees and brushes in my backyard. I contacted quite a few tree services companies and private contractors and Ontree was the last one who came for estimate. The price was very reasonable. After I decided to hire them, it took me another 2 weeks before they actually came to my house. But hey, good things come to those who wait. They came in as professionals, fully equipped, highly trained and extremely knowledgeable. Not to mention their experience as one of the four crew members, the climber, John has been doing this for 30 years. They also took care for my property, surrounding the grinding machine with multiple pieces of plywood to stop the chips from flying around. As for the special circumstances: some of my trees had grown into the old wire fence which makes it difficult for them to do the job. However, from the beginning to the end, they didn't complain about anything. They just found a way to cut the wire fence open and remove the trees without asking for anything. And even when I requested extra work, they were happy to do it with very fair extra charge. What is more, after they finished, no one urged me to pay. Instead, I just received an invoice in the email quietly couple days later.

We hired Ontree to remove a century elm tree that had died of dutch elm disease. The tree was located in a tight space between our house and our neighbours. Because of the size and sentimental value of the tree we wished to save as much of the trunk as possible to have it sawn into board lumber. The Ontree team were amazing. Using a crane to reach in to the tree, they removed the upper - and massive- branches before moving an over 3000 lb ca. 12 ft. length of the trunk into a waiting disposal bin I had arranged, for subsequent transfer to a sawmill. The work was all done smoothly, on time, on budget and with not a trace of debris left on our property, nor on the street where the upper branches were "dismembered" for the chipper. The team even humoured my neighbour and me as sidewalk superintendents!
I wholeheartedly recommend the Ontree team.

I am absolutely satisfied with the services provided by Ontree. The communication was excellent. I was always getting prompt response with full explanation what I will pay for from the office (Zita). Thank you Zita very much. The certified arborist Jody is very professional and intelligent person. Thank you Jody. He explained me in details what kind of report I will get from Ontree and only after that Ontree sent me an estimation in case if I will decide to go with them. I have not been asked to pay any fee in advance.. The report has been prepared and sent to me very promptly. I am happy with the service I received from Ontree company and extremely recommend to deal with them..

If you're bored, or find yourself with too much money on your hands, by all means give this outfit a call. They will fix you right up.
Our neighbors have a large oak tree that has recently undergone a heavy pruning job, large limbs removal, etc. as a prelude to eventual removal. The tree company they hired took two and a half days to do the job. One of their guys mentioned that it was a $ 1,600 job. I thought they did a pretty good work and took their card.
We have a large oak tree as well, very close to the house. The broken wood falling down is killing our roof and creates leaks. Now the roof has to be replaced. Evidently the tree creates a hazardous condition. In addition it has a large cavity inside, and overall the best solution would seem to be to have it removed. But we thought that a pruning job similar to the one done next door would have some effect on reducing the damage to the roof and decided to try this approach first. I was about to call the company that worked in our driveway before, but my wife mentioned ONTree as a company we had used in the past and suggested calling them first. Apparently they have given us an estimate for a similar job earlier in the year. So we called them and scheduled an appointment.
One day Jody from ONTree arrived to check things out. We showed him the previous estimate. He promptly declared it invalid, saying that the person giving it to us had made a mistake in the price. He also decided to keep that invoice and said he would give us a new one via e-mail. I then described our situation with the tree to him and informed him as to what our plans were. I specifically described the kind of pruning we had in mind and the reasons behind it.
When the invoice arrived it described the work to be done on that particular tree as 'prune deadwood 2" and larger' at the cost of $ 1,650 plus tax. This suggested to me that this amount probably represented an average industry standard for the kind of job our neighbors have received, which was exactly what we wanted.
A couple of weeks later ONTree was in the area and they showed up one morning. Four guys in a large bucket truck, with their chipper truck parked in front. They poked around, filled two plastic garbage-sized bins with twigs and small branches and were making ready to leave. All this took about two hours. I went outside and asked if they were finished with the job. A man said yes, they were finished. I stated immediately that I was not going to pay almost two thousand dollars for two hours of work. I was told that I should look up and see how nice the tree looked now. I repeated what I said and was told to take it up with somebody else. I said I would.
This resulted in two phone calls from the ONTree. In the first one I said that I haven't contracted for the removal of two plastic bins full of twigs but expected something else. In addition, their charge of almost $ 1,900 for two hours of work was hugely excessive. No heavy equipment was used, etc. The second phone call about a week later was substantially the same, except the man asked me what I thought would be the appropriate charge for the job they did. I said: "Four guys, two hours, eight hundred bucks!" I thought I was being generous. The man disagreed.
Some days later I wrote ONTree a letter describing my position and included a cheque for $ 1,000, tax included. They cashed the cheque and then sent another invoice demanding the rest of the money, or they would take us to Court.

Well, we've had enough of this nonsense. We have no time for Courts, so we paid the rest. But this is our story. We've signed a contract in good faith but what we got in return was nothing like I told Jody we wanted to have done. Instead we were hit with their usurious charges. When it comes to ONTree, a huge CAVEAT EMPTOR blinking sign should light up for anybody considering their services! Eighteen hundred for two hours of work? That's nuts!

Very disappointed with On tree job today. A team of 8-10 guys showed up this morning with no supervisor in sight and razed our back yard. Did not wait for us to come out and confirm instructions even though we were home. Not what we expected or ordered on the estimate which called for a light trim of branches over our garage. This is beyond repair. We are very upset.
