renovation

My wife and I have lived in our home for 10 years and finally made the decision on a home renovation . We've heard the nightmares of home reno's and decided to get 5 seperate companies , we decided on proceeding with two bids , both were within 15% of each other .In the end we decided to go ahead with Paul from Mainland Ventures because of the length of time in the industry , his extensive knowledge , friendly persoanlity and confidence in the end result. We contacted previous clients who all spoke highly of Paul , his crews, and his workmanship. We were also impressed to hear he dealt with any issues that arose in a professional way and made sure the clients were happy . responding to problems and how a company deals with it was also an important tool for us to decide on who we chose.
We are also happy to say our renovation was satisfactory , and our dealings with Paul went flawlessly . He was a pleasure to deal with as were the workers on the job site. Paul is honest and trust worthy and we'd have no problem referring him and his crew.

bathroom renovations-two

Our master bathroom and the secondary bathroom between two bedrooms were looking well worn and outdated after thirty years. My husband and I had spent a significant amount of time thinking about the changes we wished to make and researching the products before we looked for a contractor to make it happen. We received estimates from three companies and found that Mainland Ventures was very competitive. The company already had excellent ratings on the Homestars website which helped us in our decision to choose Mainland Ventures. Once the commitment was made and product selected, the project was underway within three weeks and completed in a timely fashion. Paul provided a schedule of work so we knew what to expect each day. Darcy and Manny were there every day. They were quiet, efficient, neat and tidy. We are both extremely pleased with the finished result and would not hesitate to call on Paul and his crew again should we need additional renovations done.

Renovation

I recently purchased an older two storey home which needed a lot of upgrades and repairs. The original homeowner neglected to maintain or properly address the aging structure of the home over the years. I met with a number of contractors to discuss the extensive interior, exterior and structural work needed to my home. No one except for Paul from Mainland came equipped with a number of assessment tools, a wealth of knowledge (and patience for my many, many questions) and was the only one who was competent and knowledgeable about BC building codes and how to best go about sequencing the repairs. Based on my budget and working with his engineer we outlined a plan of attack and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. We have essentially rebuilt the entire exterior of my home and I can sleep very well knowing that it is safe and structurally sound. I don’t have deep pockets so we have staggered the renovation and restoration based on priority (starting with the building envelope and working inwards) and I have already committed to begin the interior renovation with Paul once my bank account has recovered some. That is not to say he is expensive as I found his pricing to be very comparable with his competitors but the wealth of knowledge and expertise he brings to the table is great value for your money. If you have a large project you need managed by a professional who goes to bat for you each and every day then Paul and his crew from Mainland is who you need to hire. Would I recommend Mainland to friends and family? Absolutely! Do I have any hesitation in hiring them again? None! Can I say I am thrilled with my experience with Paul and his company? Without a doubt!!!

Exterior Upgrades

Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.

I first found Mainland off of Homestars and began communicating via email early this year. Due to my schedule meeting was very difficult to arrange but as the work I needed to have completed was on the exterior of my home I provided Paul my address and a description of what I wanted done. First priority was replacing my aged roof. Paul came by during the day when I wasn’t home and provided me a detailed estimate via email to remove the old cedar shingle roof from both my house and shed and replace with asphalt shingles. I also mentioned that I was concerned about some other areas (rotten fascia and the ever sloping aged front deck). In his first estimate he provided the costs to replace the rotten fascia and flashing at the same time as the roof and I proceeded with this work. I left a deposit cheque taped to my front door and the work began, proceeded and completed swiftly, cleanly, and precisely the way Paul said it would. At end of every evening I arrived home to see great progress and a very clean, tidy yard. After the crews were done Paul came by and sent me an email requesting for me to examine what I could and to ask if I was satisfied. I replied that I was and then he sent my final balance invoice via email. I sent off the cheque never once meeting Paul or any of his crew. I was finally ready to proceed late this summer with the replacement of the front deck and I again contacted Paul. He sent a reasonable estimate and commenced with the work. However, this time I was able to put a face to the name and thank him in person for all of his high quality work, professionalism, and courtesy to me. The deck looks fantastic and I can’t wait to begin to tackle the inside of my house when life slows down.

Basement renovation

My neighbour hired Mainland a few years ago to renovate his kitchen and when I asked if he was happy with their services I was told “without a doubt.” As a result I got Paul’s contact info and requested him to come over and estimate on a basement renovation. Our home is three stories but it might as well be two stories and with an unfinished basement which is cold and uninviting. He was on time and professional during our meeting. His estimate was clear and comprehensive. My husband wanted to get a few more estimates to compare and we knew within seconds of meeting with other contractors that our minds were already made up. One of the contractors was late. Another didn’t show up at all for the scheduled appointment and when we called he said “oh I’m sorry I forgot.” We also had to wait for 3 weeks for an estimate from one of Paul’s competitors. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. The job went smoothly, his sub trades are polite and accommodating and he advised us all along the way on how to best spend our money and where to save...very helpful as costs can really skyrocket if one is not kept in check. We now have a 2 bedroom legal suite that is so nice my husband doesn’t want to rent it out. We will have to have Paul come back and re-do the main floors of our house after the holidays or we’ll being moving into the basement suite and renting the top floors out.

Bathroom Shower Reno

I was detecting a musty smell in our main bathroom. I called Paul at Mainland Ventures and he came out the next day and determined that moisture had gotten into the wall behind the shower. Likely from cracks in the tiles or grout, they were the original tiles from over 20 years ago. He gave me an estimate to remove the existing shower stall, replace the drywall and install a new modern design shower with new tiling and fixtures. We decided to have the old toilet replaced at the same time also as it looked out of place with the new shower installation. His quote for this work, including materials, was very reasonable so we hired Mainland Ventures to do the job. Once again, Paul and his crew from Mainland Ventures performed this project with little or no disruption to our normal routines. Another successful interaction with Mainland Ventures.

bathroom renovation

We were absolutely delighted with the job performed by Mainland Ventures. The work was of the highest quality and was completed in the projected time. The owner, Paul, was constantly on hand to check that each phase met with his high standards and was always open to any suggestions. The price, moreover, was very competitive with other estimates. We have no hesitation in highly recommending Mainland Ventures
