We are finished phase one and are about to embark on phase two of a renovation of a 1960's side split in the Hunt Club area of London. We have been very happy with Kevin, Tyler and Hannah. From the design and conception phase to construction, clean up and beyond they have been very responsive to our many questions and last minute requests. The tradespeople they have brought in have been consistently good, with Opal always ensuring that everything is top-notch and professionally done.

Communication has been excellent, including our 'Client Portal' where we can review invoices, work schedules and more. The odd time there have been issues with the work done (some of which we probably wouldn't have noticed to be honest), Kevin and Tyler are always right on top of it, making sure the work is done to the highest possible standards. Perhaps most importantly, these are all genuinely nice people too which goes a long way for us. Phase one was completed in a timely manner and on budget. We would not hesitate to recommend Opal Building Co, and are looking forward to the next stage of this transformation!

We decided to do some major upgrades to our house. We bought our home with an unfinished basement, and we decided that it was time to finish it. Another major project was to upgrade the kitchen and living room, the home centre of gravity. Considering the magnitude and complexity of the two projects we realized that we need a general contractor which will bring in, his expertise and knowledge. Shopping around and asking for quotes, we found Opal Building. My first phone conversation with Kevin was over an hour. His knowledgeable answers to my questions and the open discussion facilitated the next step. We set up a meeting with Kevin and Tyler and discussed more on the options. We received a detailed quote and a proposed time schedule, and we compared it with other quotes from other general contractors. After careful consideration we decided to hire Opal for this complex job, and it proved to be the best decision.
Opal presented a detailed statement of work including the schedule which was discussed and approved in detail. The detailed statement of work was part of the contract that we signed. The execution of the contract was done with professionalism and a lot of consideration for us. Special thanks to Kevin and Tyler for this aspect.
A special note for the Opal capability to design and create all the documentation required for permits. The quality of work was outstanding. All inspections passed with flying colours. No rework was required, and I was very happy to watch how the projects evolved in time. In the basement, we build two bedrooms, a living space, a bathroom and a kitchenette.
The interaction between Kevin, Tyler and myself during this process was outstanding. Most of the time, these days, everybody is talking, nobody is listening. Not in our case. Each idea, each argument, each outcome, was discussed and agreed upon. A real, de facto, collaboration. A real teamwork.
A special note (another one) on the kitchen renovation. My wife has a special combined sense of practicability and aesthetics, and her vision brought to this project a new dimension. Opal was there to give life to this vision and resulted a kitchen that is inspiring me to cook more. My wife is delighted about both outcomes.
Because the main floor is an open concept including kitchen and living room, I added to the scope of work a completely new entertainment unit build around the fireplace. I only showed Tyler a picture of one that I liked and in a couple of days he builds it to the highest standards.

We bought our home ten years ago with an unfinished basement. With such a small family we never had the need for the extra space in our basement. To gain some extra income we looked into turning our basement into a rental unit. At that point we called Opal and other contractors to come and take a look at the potential project. Kevin was able to tell us right from the start how much our investment would bring in monthly as well as what kind of value it would add to the overall value of our home. Opal then gave us a very detailed quote outlining the entire job from start to finish and at that point we decided to hire them. They turned our basement into a fully permitted rental unit with a beautiful kitchen and bathroom, two spacious bedrooms with regular sized windows and dining and living space. It was a no brainer to complete this project and we are so happy we had Opal do all the work. We can't say enough good things about Opal and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work carried out by professionals.
