Moving

Using this company has to be one of the worst choices thus far in my life. It cost me $17000 to move from AB to NB. They were hard to contact, rude and delayed our belongings until payment was received. I cannot stress enough DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Move from Ottawa to Calgary

I had a terrible experience using this company to move my stuff from Ottawa to Calgary. I should have known how bad they were the first day they came to pick up my stuff. They gave me a time between 2 and 4 July 28 but never came. In fact, no communication from them why they could not come at the time they gave. The movers actually damaged my walls and a door. When I pointed it out to the movers they had no credible explanation how that happened.

Before doing business with them I was inundated with emails telling me they move weekly to Alberta and BC. After they moved my stuff I gave them the address they will move my stuff to in Calgary three days later (i.e. 31st July). At the same time I asked how much my move cost and the time for delivery. These questions were not answered but rather they promised to call me back to give me these info. They ended up calling the following day which was August 1st on Friday. I was driving through the state to Calgary then and consequently did not pick the call immediately. However, I called back and never got anyone to talk to. I waited till the following Monday (August 4th), which was a civic holiday. They were not opened. When I called the following day August 5th, I was told I must pay up before I could be told when my stuff will arrive Calgary. Right now I was Irate because no one told me this before they came to pick my stuff up. In fact, I asked why they had to wait 5 days before calling me to give me the price if they knew you had to pay before your stuff will be put on the next truck? The lady I was dealing with was very obnoxious and rude. She kept telling me I had to pay up. She was venting and not willing to listen to me only asking me what I wanted to do. When I realized there was no winning with her, I decided to just pay up. She now informed me that the next move was August 10th the following Sunday. I was flabbergasted. Wat happened to the emails where they mentioned moving every week to AB and BC. I was beside myself at this point since I was already in Calgary and I was paying for Hotel stay. She told me it would take 5-7 days for my stuff to arrive Calgary. I spoke to a manager who specifically mentioned that they only move twice to AB. This was at odd with what their quote sent to me prior to the move stated. I had to stick with it when I knew there was nothing else I could do.

However, after waiting till August 15th when my stuff was supposed to come I called them and I was told I should wait till the 7th day which was August 17th. I waited but nothing happened. I called them August 18th at which point I received one devastating news form one nasty guy who pretty much told me my stuff will arrive the following week of August 25th. When I questioned what he just said he hanged up the phone on me. I was very disappointed because of the misleading info I kept on receiving. I was shocked that even if they mentioned 5-7 business days (which was later changed to 5 to 10 business days) my stuff ought to arrive latest the week of August 15th since they claimed my stuff left August 8th. At this point, I did not know what to believe.

My stuff finally arrived August 23rd. Only two movers came wit the truck and they pretty much wanted us to help out in offloading the stuff as they were very tired. We ended up helping as much as we could since we were just glad that we finally received our stuff. They forgot to bring our vacuum cleaner floor piece and we were just happy that most of our stuff arrived.

I beg you do not do business with this company. You do not need to go through all the insults and misinformation I received form them.

Mover

Like all of the other reviews on here, have had a terrible experience with this company. I know that all of the negitive reviews on here are very true as I have experienced the same and more. I have filed a complaint with Consumer Protection and suggest you do the same. Midland returned my registered letter outlining the complaint. Not surprised, I knew that they wouldn't respond. I'd venture to guess that any positive reviews on here are fake, as I can't imagine anyone would have anything positive to say about this company!

household move

Been trying to contact Mark(sales agent)because of huge discrepancies on the final bill,I was told by Mark 40 cents a pound plus tax and absolutely no extra costs,Mark was always available right up until the move, now after the pickup,I have called many times ,they refuse to put Mark on the phone and are refusing to ship my merchandise,Mark has gone into hiding.
I WISH I HAD SEEN THESE COMMENTS BEFORE I WENT WITH THIS COMPANY,as I had other quotes and was assured by Mark that he would meet their price.
Oh yeah and the movers broke a 9foot mirror that was on a man's chess of an Italian Lacquer custom made set,I wonder how that is going to pan out.
NOT HAPPY WITH THIS COMPANY THUS FAR.

Commercial furniture move

Worst experience so far. I own RusticFurnitureOutlet.ca focusing on giving top service to my clients who buy from me. I do my best to make sure everything is perfect and leave it up to Midland to mess it all up! They picked up my furniture at 4am on the 21st of June and promised to get my client their goods by the 6th of July… its now the 9th and she still does not have it…

I got a bunch of excuses that they were over loaded.. (as if i care), i had no communication as they promised they would give me updates throughout the transit… they charged my credit card without giving me an invoice…

I am a very upset customer and all they can do was NOTHING!! Avoid these turkeys! They have no idea what they are doing!

Use them if you don't care at what time of the day they wake you up to pick up your furniture.. use them if you have no deadline when you need the furniture… use them if you give them permission to charge whatever they like to your credit card… use them if you like no communication… they suck.. period end!

Moving

Midland Van Lines are BY FAR the worst moving company that I have ever had to deal with (and I deal with a lot of freight companies for a living!)!!! They charged us double what we were originally quoted us, including a fee for the movers having to walk more than 50 feet from entrance to my apartment. I have weighed thousands of shipments in my life, and highly doubt that the number they told me that my shipment weighed came anywhere close to its actual weight. After hounding me for payment (to which I finally agreed since I needed my stuff by the date stated on my contract), I found out that indeed my stuff had yet to be loaded and was still in Montreal). When I inquired as to when it would be delivered, I got different responses from seemingly every person there that I spoke to. Some said July 5, some July 10, some didn't seem to care. The customer service people there also seemed to be extremely rude and insensitive to the fact that I was stuck without my stuff. Several days later I called again to get more information on when my stuff would be delivered, I was told it would be the following Monday or Tuesday, and that I would get a call 24 hours in advance to set up the appointment. The very next day (Thursday), I got a call on my lunch hour that my stuff was to be delivered that day between 2 PM and 7 PM. The rest of the conversation is as follows:

Midland: "Do you accept this?"
Me: "No, I do not accept this! I'm at work! You were supposed to give me 24 hours notice!"
Midland: "I don't want to hear your opinions. Do you want your stuff or not?
Me: "You were supposed to give me 24 hours notice! This is unacceptable!"
Midland: "If we do not deliver your stuff today, then we will only deliver it in 3 week AND charge you storage."
Me: "Fine, I accept."

Thank G-d my new boss was understanding and let me go.

But wait, THERE'S MORE!!!!

When my stuff finally did arrive, several of my things were broken: a lamp, some crystal, a few plates, several of my picture frames. My leather ottoman was ruined due to a tape job (who tapes leather like that?). My duffle bag with my baseball equipement, running shoes and other belonging never showed up, and neither did my girlfriend's golf clubs.

In short, DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY! DO NOT GET SWAYED BY THEIR LOW PRICES, BECAUSE THAT'S BS! THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS, AND THEIR MOVING SERVICE PRACTICES ARE EVEN WORSE! Awful experience, will never do it again!

Moving and storage services

Do not deal with these people! They are unreliable and unethical. Like many other of the reviewers, I was seriously underquoted. I told Mark exactly what I had and he quoted me $775. I ended up getting charged $1,850! First of all, I was not told that my credit card would be charged automatically so I was surprised that no one called me to tell me this. Second of all, I have a one bedroom apartment with very little furniture. When I called to complain they told me that they overcharged me by $300 and promised me a refund. It has been a month and a half and I have had to call them at least 10 times about this.

After over a month of being given the runaround and not receiving my refund i asked to speak with a manager. I was told I could speak with "Typhoon" (I think) but he didn't pick up the phone and was left with his voicemail. Like every voicemail I have left with this company, my call was never returned.

I am honestly thinking of contacting the police to see what they can do.

They also didn't do the pickup on the day that I booked them because of a "mechanical malfunction" and didn't even call to tell me. I called them to confirm that they would be coming the next day to pick up my stuff and they were like "ohhhh yeaaahhh, We aren't going to be there." So I guess they just wouldn't have shown up if I hadn't called? I had to rebook for after I had already left the province and arrange to have my friend to handle giving them the keys, etc.

Speaking of the keys, they were 5 hours late picking them up from my friend, who was waiting at his apartment for them. Once they finally did that I asked them to return them to my friend once they were done. Instead of doing that they took them back with them to their office in Toronto! My apartment was in Ottawa. They never told me this. Once again, I had to find out from my friend, who stayed home all afternoon (in addition to the morning) waiting for them, that they never showed up. I called them (as always) and asked them to mail me the keys at my new home in Calgary. They said they would check on whether or not they could do that and get back to me. They never did. I called them back again and they said they'd call me back with an answer. Again, no call. I called a third time about this and they told me that they'd mailed the keys to their office in Calgary, not to my house here, as requested. So I had to get my brother, who has a car, to drive way out to their office here to pick them up, taking an hour and a half out of his day.

I haven't had my stuff delivered yet, I will on August 1st, but I am terrified that much of it will be broken or damaged.

I have never had a worse experience with a business in my life. They have admittedly overcharged me and I have gotten FOUR different excuses as to why they haven't refunded me yet. These people do not do what they say they are going to do and deliberately underquote people. I pray that they are put out of business soon. No one deserves to be treated like this.
