Very bad home builders. Nothing works water leaking basement. Wonder how this is passed the inspection. Warranty and insurance doesn't cover anything because there are so many mistakes on the building problems.

Bought Spec House

This is my second home. Not overly impressed. Design is good, but quality of finishing work is pathetic! There was paint all over everything but the walls. We had to get the walls (I would say repainted, but that would mean they were painted in the first) redone because you could see where they barely did one coat of paint. Somehow there was paint on every floor and bathroom fixture in the house. It has been hard to get responses for things needing to be fixed. There is a gap between the roof and the wall of the fireplace cantilever. I have been trying get it repaired for a year. When our one year inspection was done, they repeatedly informed me they had already fixed the roof, and it was documented as so. I took this individual out and showed them it had definitely not been fixed. It was all of a sudden, "oh it says here they are GOING to fix it." They then informed me there would be no need to investigate to see if there was any moisture or damage inside. Just like there was no need to go see if had in fact been fixed. I attached temporary stairs to the deck nailer before I built a deck. It's a good thing I did, because the nailer ripped off the house. It was fasted with staples. There are holes in baseboards where they didn't fill in the nail holes, visibly separating and uneven moldings around the windows. They said they will do noting about any of it. Terrible grouting, don't seal the grout around the tiles behind any sinks, or the baseboards by tubs or showers. The trades must be shorted in their pay, because it looks like they don't care.

Please take a look at the picture and let me know if this is an acceptable condition for a roof to be in.

First time homebuyers

We were so excited to buy our first home, but it just went down hill from there. Nothing was completed on time, forcing us to book off extra time off work, as there was no way I was letting the trades people in by themselves. Multiple issues weren't fixed properly, unless we dealt with it ourselves. To make a very long and frustrating story short, We have bent over backwards for this builder and lost a lot of time and money, to accommodate them. We feel that they do not value their customers after they've received their big fat cheque, no obligation to treat them with respect or to have the courtesy to stand behind their mistakes. We would not recommend anyone to buy/build with Sabal (also known as Hopewell), after the headache we've had with them. Which is unfortunate, buying your first home should be a happy and exciting experience.

Home Construction

We are so disappointed by our experience with Sabal homes. It began with a lot of promise - the showhome staff and design studio staff were great. Yes they made errors, and the markups on upgrades were outrageous - but this is all to be expected. The extreme frustration started the day we took possession. Harman, our site supervisor was and still is completely useless. The first 3 days following possession we couldn't lock our front door from the outside, and in order to lock it from the inside we had to use needle nose pliers. Half a million bucks for a house, and as a bonus they give you pliers to lock your front door. When we took possession of our house in November the front and back yard were littered with construction debris. 2x4's, shingles, plywood, nail strips, coffee cups, working gloves, completely littered. It took months before we could get somebody to come clean it up. And 6 months later, there is still a pile of rebar, shingles and wood in our backyard. The number of deficiencies inside our home is completely unacceptable. We've had a plumbing leak, which resulted in water pooling in our basement ceiling, Both bathtub faucets are falling off. There is paint overspray all over the main floor, and we've had multiple issues with the flooring. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Additionally, the seasonal work in our yard and on the exterior of our home is all wrong. The grading is not conducive to proper drainage, there is a 12 inch gap between the parging and the damp proofing (total alberta building code violation.) And the parging is chunking off a month after it was done. Its frustrating that while this work is being done, or even after completion, our site supervisor doesn't come around to check on the work. It falls on us to inspect the work done by shotty tradesmen that we didn't hire. I expect my house to be built to code. I thought Sabal would too... Terrible experience. We will continue to share our story with anyone that will listen until all of these outstanding issues have been rectified. Shame on you Sabal.

New Home

We paid $7,600.00 for a tile shower that was installed improper. The home is only 2 years old and Sabal Homes will not even come and look at the massive damage the shower has made. I have gone to more than one person at Sabal Homes, giving them time and nothing has come from us giving them the benefit. Now we are saddled with the cost of hiring trades or contacting our insurance provider. Which also comes with added cost. All they need to do is to take responsibility and fix our shower, nothing more nothing less. We will never build with Sabal Homes or Hopewell again.
