Install of 2 bathroom fans

We recently sold our home & 1 of the conditions of sale was to have bathroom fans installed in 2 bathrooms. When I found The Fan Man on the web I figured with a company name such as this, they must know their stuff. Well my hunch was correct! Ted arrived as expected on time even though I was not located in his immediate area. In short, Ted & his associate Dave did an excellent job installing the fans. Ted installs only Panasonic series fans and when turned on were hard to even hear any noise at all. If you are looking for a true professional to install any fan into a home new or old, I would absolutely suggest The Fan Man. I was more than impressed with the finished product x 2.

Replaced old noisey bathroom fans

Very happy with the work that was done. Ted and his partner covered everything, were fast, and very clean. Amazed with how quiet these Panasonic fans are! Well worth the investment! No more fogged mirrors after hot showers.
Thanks again Ted!

Expert work

The Fan Man arrived as scheduled, took the time to point out problems with the existing installation, then went ahead and corrected those problems without charging anything more than the original quote.

New fan in upstairs bathroom

I live in a townhouse that was built in the early '70s so the upstairs bathroom doesn't have a fan. As you can imagine, I didn't want to go through another winter of hot steamy showers and closed windows leading to the growth of nasty mildew. And who really wants to open any windows in the middle of winter?

I reached out the Fan Man and a few others through HomeStars and based on the reviews and responses, I felt that Fan Man was the best option in terms of affordability and the work that would be done. Since there is no fan at all, the job required cutting into the ceiling and roof, installing the necessary ductwork, the fan and the switches. We arranged a date Nov-3rd, 2017, with an arrival for 10AM and he arrive with wife a few minutes before 10, which I liked as I'm a very punctual person myself. They both came in, I showed them what needed to be done, they setup towels and ensure to maintain a clean work area and a few hours later the work was done, the job site was clean and we had an amazing, almost whisper-like bathroom installed. I would certainly recommend The Fan Man for any fan-related work.

Bathroom Fan installation - 240 CFM inline for master + 80 CFM fan for main

We unfortunately did not get to point of actual installation with the "Fan Man". After originally quoting an in line fan with two in takes for our master bathroom, without viewing our home or lay out, the owner suddenly explained we would need to install separate fans and switches at higher cost and would not honour original quote or plan for an inline fan. Also demanded a "cash only" arrangement which we were not comfortable providing.

We tried to explain the location of one of the fans would be located at the front of the home and we prefer not to have a roof vent installed and visible from the street.

The Fan Man then suddenly informed us he no longer is servicing the East GTA.

Probably fortunate this contractor self selected himself out from our project. I prefer to deal with a professionals who can provide contracts, receipts and peace of mind of a job well done given the work involves puncturing the roof and working with electrical connections in the attic space.

Marshall: Unfortunately, I could not service your request for fan installations. I have decided to concentrate my installations to my local area, due to travel time and traffic to the east end of the GTA. I hope you are pleased with your new Panasonic fans. They are the best product on the market, and I am sure you will be pleased. Ted

Fantastic Bathroom Fan Installations

Ted and Sue arrived promptly today to install 3 fans and timer switches. I've had Panasonic fans before so I was excited to have my old ones replaced. They're so quiet and the timers are great.

I won't drone on. In short, they're clean, knowledgeable, courteous, and reasonably priced. I was working from home and they were very efficient with the installations.

Unfortunately one of the three Panasonic fans would not fit into my Powder room without impacting the crown moulding. Ted has offered to look into a quieter motor replacement for the builder's grade fan that is there now.

Will definitely refer the FanMan to friends and use him again if needed! Pricing was very reasonable!

Gary: Thank you for your comments. You are familiar with the quality and very quiet Panasonic fans that we install. We replaced the builders grade fans in your current house with new Panasonic fans along with new timers. Unfortunately, we could not install a Panasonic fan in the powder room because of the size constraints. We will try to find an alternate that is much quieter to fit this space. Ted

Washroom Exhaust Fans & Kitchen Range hood Installation

Thanks a lot Ted.
I bought a new house that is about 40 years old but had no exhaust fans in any of the 4 washrooms. There were no vents, ducts, wiring etc either. Also the kitchen had an over the range microwave that had no vent and just recirculated the air back into kitchen. So I was looking for someone to install all this and I am so happy that I found Ted.

Prior to finding Ted I talked to several contractors but none of them agreed to do the entire job. Some said they can install the vents but not the electrical, others said they could do the electrical part but not the vent or the patch work on the roof or the
outside walls.
But Ted, said he could do it all - supplying the best quality whisper quiet Panasonic fans, do the duct work, do the electrical part, do the patchwork outside and inside and install the range hood in the kitchen. And he quoted me a very reasonable price as well.
He and his wife arrived on the appointment day on time and got to work immediately starting off by covering all the floors and making sure nothing will get dust and debris. Now the installation on the first floor was relatively straight forward except for the fact that the attic was super hot. But the challenges came while installing the main floor powder room fan and then the fan in the basement washroom. The issue was the joists running in these two washrooms were in the opposite direction and Ted had to do some innovative maneuvering to install these. Took a while.
The kitchen range hood that I had bought was also not that easy to install. First challenge was to take off the old overhead microwave which was relatively not difficult. Cutting a whole in brick wall and installing a 6 inch vent and the tight corners that he had to negotiate while mounting the range hood were more difficult.
All through out, Ted and his partner were very patient, took their time, never rushed anything and made sure everything fit perfectly.
They cleaned up everything, touched up the ceiling and the walls, and once they were done no mess for us to clean up.
The whole project of installing 4 washroom exhaust fans and the kitchen range hood took 2 days.
Me and my wife are very happy with the service that Ted has provided. We will surely be recommending him to family and friends and off course contacting him if we need something in the future.
I also want to thank Homestars for this wonderful website because this is where I found Ted. :)

Thanks for your comments. Even though some parts of your job were challenging, especially the hot attic, we were able to install all your bath fans and stove vent. We are happy you are very satisfied. Ted

So incredibly happy with the Fan Man's work.

I am so happy I found Ted. I have a 100 yr old home that had no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Mold and airflow was becoming an issue. Even worse, other contractors I had worked with for other jobs, left sour tastes in my mouth due to not so good workmanship.

Ted is the opposite. His pricing is very reasonable. He installed a high quality fan that's not available in stores. He also gave me good advice about placement, which other general contractors did not. In addition, he went the extra mile and fixed a small electrical I was having.

Ted and his wife arrived on time, and were gone by the afternoon. The place was tidied up and everything works great! I couldn't be happier. That's how a buying experience is supposed to be!

Thanks Ted! Highly recommended and will use again if required.

Wanted to post an update later, in 2020: the fan used didn't have backflow protection. At night the outdoor flap would make an incredible amount of noise, and it would echo throughout the house. Furthermore, there was a draft, as I could look outside through the fan (it was weird just seeing through this big hole). I tried to remedy this and contact Ted, but he didn't drop by and help. Instead, he said "he no longer uses the fan he installed for me." As it turns out, I was the guinea pig for this product, and it isn't very good.

I've filled the fan with insulation in the mean time and no longer use it. I'll have it replaced when I re-do my washroom. Ted is a nice guy, but his customer service post install was lacklustre.

Didn't want to leave a bad review, either.. but I regret this purchase.

Installation of bathroom exhaust fan & GFI outlet

I recently hired Ted to install an exhaust fan in my bathroom, as well as a GFI outlet. His responses to my inquiries were prompt and he was very knowledgeable. On the big day, Ted arrived on time (a little early, actually, which was great). He worked quietly and unobtrusively … in fact, it didn’t sound like much was going on until I went upstairs and found everything installed and he was starting on the roof part of the job. When he and his partner left, there was no sign that anyone had been there…aside, of course, from a whisper-quiet Panasonic fan and a new outlet! Ted is a low-key guy who knows his stuff – a pleasure to deal with.

I know that bathroom fans are not as sexy as a new kitchen or bathroom, but it serves an important function. Mold is probably the main reason you need a fan installed. I'm glad I could help Mike. I appreciate also that he was satisfied with the job. We do not cut corners, and only install the best fan on the market. Ted
