We have a water softener system in our home. On August 30th, 2011 the basement suffered a flood caused by a burst water softener pipe. Repairs were made to the system and a property restoration company (an Insurance recommended vendor) was immediately contacted to address the flood damage by drying out the basement and removing all wet contents – wall to wall carpeting, two small oriental rugs, paneling, ceiling tiles, furniture, paintings, and clothing.
The restoration company provided an extensive, itemized estimate of the repairs required following the flood on September 19th. The paper work appeared impressive; however, the lack of professionalism and workmanship that would follow was disastrous! There were glaring imperfections with the drywall - unfinished edges were missing corner beading and metal trim; screws, cracks and taping seams were highly visible; rough, bumpy, bubbling surfaces existed throughout; all walls, corners, and baseboards were not at right angles - one wall in particular was approaching 60 degrees; and despite stating our serious concerns on numerous occasions, the basement was painted. As a result, work by the dry walling/painting crew was stopped by us and arrangements were made to find a dry walling company of our choosing to rectify and complete this restoration... thankfully, we found Robs Renos on the HomeStars website!
My husband telephoned Robs Renos Wednesday, November 2nd and spoke directly with Rob Mason, the owner, who was able to come the next day and prepare an estimate that would resolve our disastrous situation. Rob emailed his estimate Friday, November 4th which specifically addressed the significant issues and concerns we had while it simultaneously provided us with peace of mind. He began on time Monday, November 7th and within 5 days, had meticulously resolved every deficiency and professionally finished over 50% of an exceptionally incredible job, working as if he was in his own home, which had taken the previously recommended vendor many weeks to botch!
Rob had to demolish one 60 ½” wall because the drywall had been laminated over a sheet of existing drywall which created a big warp. Time and care were taken to straighten the wall before new drywall was installed, taped, finished and two coats of fresh paint were applied. The other walls that were not at 90 degree angles had to be straightened as well. All corner beads were replaced, re-taped making them flat, and painted. Since the bulkhead in the exercise room had been incorrectly built - not straight or level; Rob removed it, constructed a new bulkhead, framed it and applied new drywall which would be painted. None of the drywall ceilings had been taped correctly and the deficiencies were so extensive they needed to be skimmed twice before repainting. Unfinished drywall in every doorway was finished with d-200 finishing bead, taped and painted. The wall in the work room which originally received one coat of drywall compound had two more coats applied, was finished, primed and painted. Baseboards around the fireplace on top of the brick were removed and the trim along the wall was replaced to finish at the face of the brick. All trim needed to be primed and painted. The laundry room sink was detached allowing for the drywall behind it to be replaced, taped and painted. The closet in the exercise room was repaired in order for it to open and close.
Rob is a consummate professional… a perfectionist, who is extremely honest, knowledgeable and committed to completing exceptionally high quality work. On-going communication was maintained throughout the process to ensure we were totally satisfied. The work area was kept clean, regularly vacuumed, and garbage was quickly removed. Rob took every precaution to ensure our recently installed carpet was fully protected by covering it with plastic – prior to painting, he removed the first covering and recovered it with a second sheet of plastic. Luis, Chico, and Justin were professional, polite and demonstrated the same work ethic as Rob. We could not be more pleased with this, “second restoration” of the basement!! Had we gone with Robs Renos in the first place, we could have avoided all undue stress, frustration, and the work would have been finished by the end of September rather than the middle of November.
Rob and his team are amazing and they have worked miracles in our home… the transformation is absolutely remarkable! We are most appreciative and thankful, we already have plans for Rob and his company to complete future projects, and we would highly recommend Robs Renos if you are looking for an honest, personable, reliable, meticulous, accommodating, hard-working, knowledgeable, and professional contractor.
