Basement Renovation

The Right Touch stepped up when we urgently needed their services this summer for a partial basement renovation. They were familiar with our home having completed several other home improvement projects in the past. The attention to detail and trouble-shooting skills resulted in a new recreation room and revitalized laundy-furnace room. We're very pleased with the results and would highly recommend The Right Touch.

Door and window trim

I love renovations with no drama. After replacing windows and a door I needed trim installed. Jeff came on time, did an excellent job, and left the place clean when he was finished.

The Right Guy for the Job

I always call Jeff when I need work done in my home - whether it's a reno or just some handyman work. He always comes when he says he's going to come, and he'll tell you if he's not the right person for a particular job. He's a great painter and a perfectionist. And he cleans up after himself. All great qualities - and fairly rare in this line of work.

Multiple jobs

When I need repairs and renovations to my home Jeff is always the one I call. Jeff has always been honest and trustworthy and his prices are more than fair, especially considering the quality of his work and his attention to detail.  Jeff is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of home improvement. Hes conscientious and hardworking and is very meticulous about making sure everything is done perfectly.
Ive known Jeff for about 18 years, and in that time he has done two complete bathroom renovations for me. In addition, he has done many repairs such as the main beam on my front porch, interior and exterior window frame repairs, removing and repairing water-damaged wood in an exterior wall of a room, and repairing pipes that have burst.
My house is very old and has many peculiarities and surprises. Jeff has always taken these in stride when working and has always impressed me with his ability to problem-solve and come up with creative solutions.  For example, he was able to change the configuration of a modern bathroom fan to make it work in a very old bathroom.
Hes very observant, and on many occasions has alerted me to issues I hadnt noticed, so that they could be dealt with before they became even worse. For example, Jeff noticed a sagging beam that was endangering the structural integrity of my house.  After obtaining the appropriate engineers drawings, he expertly reinforced the beam and did all the work, including expertly repairing the drywall and finishing it, with minimal disruption.

Another such example is a basement water leak that continued after I had paid a great deal of money to another company for waterproofing and nobody could find the cause. Once I mentioned the problem to Jeff, he spotted a hole where water was coming in from outside and was able to solve the problem quickly and inexpensively. He then accurately diagnosed a water table issue and creatively used hydrostatic cement to repair a leak in the foundation.
I would have no hesitation in recommending The Right Touch for any type of home repair or renovation.

Complete Main Floor Renovation

In the summer of 2020, we contracted with Jeff to completely renovate our upstairs bathroom. We were so impressed with his approach and work we decided to hire him again the following summer for a much larger project: the complete renovation of our main floor. Similar to our previous experience working with Jeff, we could not be happier with the final result.

The renovation we embarked upon included removing walls, completely gutting the main floor, enlarging windows and moving an external door. As part of our team, we hired an internal designer as well as an engineering consultant to obtain building permits. Jeff worked collaboratively with them and us to make our vision for this space a reality.

Additionally, we pointed out some deficiencies in our house, namely squeaky floors, little to no insulation and excessive noise from our attached neighbours. Jeff addressed every one of those issues and rectified them all. Our house is now much warmer and quieter than it was before because Jeff heard our concerns and addressed them in a positive manner. As an example to illustrate my point, Jeff went so far as to place sound dampening material between every joist in the ceiling and floor in the area of our shared wall. This attention to detail was very much appreciated.

He arrived on time every day. When he couldnt, he would communicate that to us. What I appreciated most was that once he started the work on our house, this was his primary focus; he did not have multiple jobs running at the same time and devoted all his time and energy to us.

He cleaned up our house at the end of each day and always contacted me to provide an overview of what work had been done, what work was next, what challenges to completing the work he had discovered and how those challenges would be overcome.

As well, during that summer, it was very difficult to obtain building supplies. Jeff worked magic to have the supplies required when they were needed. As well, Jeff needed to coordinate with various specialist contractors who themselves were quite busy. Our schedule for work being completed seemed to change almost daily. Jeff always seemed to have a back-up plan at the ready which kept the entire project moving forward.

To illustrate how dedicated Jeff is to us, he had completed the vast majority of the work on our house and had moved on to another project. I noticed water coming through our kitchen ceiling one Friday afternoon and reached out to him for his advice. Incredibly, he packed up his things and came over to our house at the end of his day to address our issue.

As a final thought working with Jeff over these two renovation projects, he strikes me as the kind of contractor who takes pride in his work, does not take short-cuts, and treats our house as if it was his own. If things get difficult, he doesnt give up and will rectify whatever the issue might be. As the homeowner, I really did appreciate Jeffs approach to the renovation he completed on our house. The big question is always: would I hire this contractor again. With Jeff I would not hesitate one second in hiring him again.
