The Home Improvement Group - THIG

Hate to write this, but others should know....
Worst contractor experience of my life. Attempted to double-bill me numerous times for materials used (eg. heated floor mats, garbage removal) and their plumbing subcontractor insisted I urgently needed $9,000 of emergency work done but wouldn't provide any evidence when requested (I paid for a second opinion out of my own pocket and CCTV video and plumber confirmed there were no issues whatsoever).
Overall work was generally of poor quality and tradesmen had to come back numerous times to fix or redo the work. As a result the job (a small bathroom reno) took nearly 6 months to complete.
They did a nice sales job and quoted what seemed to be a fair price, but completely failed on the execution. Be very wary of these guys!

Edit: Have spoken to THIG and confirmed that they did this project.

Pros:
Warrantied work, good escalation points when necessary, constant communication, understanding of what we're asking, etc... overall, at the end of the day when we escalated our concerns, we were met with very prompt resolutions to a good majority of the issues we faced. Christine was absolutely stellar in ensuring they were finishing the work as we expected it, and worked with us almost daily to ensure we were happy with what was happening, she was great and I can't recommend her enough!! It's obvious she takes pride in what she does, and it shows in the work and her team. She took what was difficult and negative project at the outset and turned it into a very positive situation by getting everything completed super quickly. They take real pride in their work and are happy to work with you on ensuring you're happy as well. Also constant communication was amazing, I always knew where things were at and what was going on.

Cons:
We faced many issues at the outset of the project, months of delays, poor workmanship, our project manager never accurately documenting what we were doing/he was saying, so what he told us we were getting at some points, we obviously weren't. Just be cognizant if you use them that you shouldn't trust anything just verbally, make sure every single detail is documented, no matter how small that detail is!! I can't say anything too negative, because as i said at the end of the day, they really did pull through immediately once we spoke to them and resolved everything and completed the work as expected and very quickly.

I hired THIG to do some drywall repairs throughout the house. I was happy to find a company that would do small jobs that had been bothering me, and this company had good reviews on Home Stars. Melanie at the office was great - she was very responsive, answered my questions quickly and helped facilitate the booking process. Mo did a great job with the drywall repairs - showed up on time, cleaned up after his work each day, and checked in to make sure everything was good.

First of all let me say I called 3 companies to get some simple electrical work done and only one actually answered the phone. The other two didn't even call me back. But Melanie and THIG were lovely to deal with and had an electrician booked to come over within a few business days.

Bruno the electrician was smart, thorough and friendly. He found the simplest, fastest fix for the problem and took care of it right away. A handyman from another company had suggested it was a much bigger problem but Bruno did some investigation and found the best way to deal with it. He had the lights on in no time.

Only reason I wouldn't be giving a 5/5 is becuase we had to switch painters midway through a job which caused a schedule change BUT I ended up getting an AMAZING painter, Fabio. He was meticulous. We knew the job of painting tile was not a common ask and he was super thorough and made sure we got the BEST possible result. We are so happy with our new refresh. Thanks Fabio! And thanks THIG for your quick turnaround re: quoting, painter change and anything else I needed. We are happy with the results.

Thank you THIG for an amazing renovation experience. Tony and crew did a great job on my floors and were both fast and professional. Painter Favio was fantastic to work with and Joe did beautiful work on my closets and doors. A special thank you to Douglas Parra for bringing it all together and looking after all the little details. I felt like I was in good hands throughout the experience. You will be my choice for any future renovations.

We had the pleasure of hiring the Home Improvement Group again – the last time for home repairs – this time for outside painting. I felt badly for the staff at home office, given poor weather with rain they had to reschedule numerous times. The first set of painters did a great job but missed filling in a crack the first time around on the front step. The Home Improvement Group went above and beyond to make sure that the crack was filled and repainted. Our front and back porch look perfect. They are exceptional – head office, the project managers, the handymen and the painters. You don’t need to go anywhere else.

It's been a pleasure to work with Charlie our Project Manager and his team. Charlie is very involved, a great communicator (so appreciated!) and trustworthy. If I send him a text or email he always get back to me right away. I've hired other companies in the past and have had a very disappointing experience! Not with THIG , on Charlie goes above and beyond. This is the 3rd time I have hired THIG and hope to have them come back in the future. I have recommended THIG to several colleagues who have also reported a positive experience. I highly recommend them.

Douglas Parra from the Home Improvement Group was our project manager and delivered a massive project on time with little cost over-runs. Our friends were surprised when we told them that we're moving in just two weeks after the renovation work started.

When we bought our new home, we decided to do major renovations to suit our style. We cut open a large window in the living room drywall. We moved the laundry from the basement to the main floor, for which a new insulated laundry area had to be built. We also created a new door from the Garage to the basement. Finally, we got the whole house painted.

Douglas was at the site multiple times each day, ensuring work progresses well. When one of the handymen took too long, he replaced that person with another the very next day. When I was traveling for work, Douglas sent us photos of the progress every day. Anytime any issue came up, we were updated promptly. THIG were also flexible for delivering on additional work as it came along. Any savings from the original estimate were also passed back to us.

Overall, very happy with the team Douglas brought together for our project and the oversight he provided throughout the duration.
