Fence

Right from the start with the initial visit by Michael Dumas the professionalism was there. We were kept informed of schedule changes. The gentleman and his son who did the main work on the fence were fantastic. We would definitely use this company again. We are complete happy with the look and style of our new fence.

Front Porch

Our porch had begun to sink at an irregular angle and it was causing problems with the roof over our front door. We called John McLellan Contracting and got to work on planning what the porch would look like. Drawings were done and they made sure they captured how we envisioned it. Mark who built the porch was awesome, he put in long days and kept checking with us to make sure we were happy with it. After the porch was done he cleaned everything up and they came and took away the trailer within a day. The front porch looks amazing, and we sit out on it all the time. I highly recommend John McLellan Contracting, they are an excellent value for your money and we would definitely consider them for some interior projects we are considering in the fall.

Reshingling roof

It started with a small leak around the chimney, followed by leaks in 3 other rooms.

Of the 3 companies we contacted, only 2 got back with quotes.

The sales associate from John McLellan Contracting Inc., Kris, gets '10 out of 10' for her presentation and explanations about how the job would be done and what materials would be used.

The folder with brochures and samples of the underlayments was informative. We discussed all the elements of a CORRECTLY installed roof, from the drip edge to the proper ridge vent (we have cathedral ceilings with no attic), the starter shingles, the stack boots and the proper cap shingles for the ridge vent. Since we have an electric fireplace insert, we wanted the chimney on the roof removed to avoid future leaks.

Kris explained that part of the reason our roof leaked was because the previous roofers only put a 3 foot ridge vent in, not a 30+ ft. ridge vent, which would have greatly extended the roof's life. Plus, she told us the bathroom stack should not be on the ridge.

Kris e-mailed her quote, in a timely manner, with detailed steps about what would be done on our job and the named products that would be used and the estimated cost.

Peggy (the Project Manager) and Kris also arranged for the roof to be tarped as a rain storm was expected the next day. If we did NOT hire them, we would pay for the tarping being done by their company. If we hired them to shingle our roof, we would NOT be charged for the temporary tarping of our roof. That is impressive.

We also had them replace all of the sheeting on the roof and the 30+ year old insulation. The added expense for that extra work and materials was worth every single penny. Our A/C runs less often.

Jeremy and his team of men did an excellent job. They were hard working and pleasant. Jeremy also said that where the ridge vent was missing, the shingles had caved in and were full of water!

They also cleaned our eaves troughs and cleaned up the yard and driveway really well.

We now KNOW we have the roof done properly, unlike 12 years ago.

Our experience with this company and our contact with every employee involved in the job was '10 out of 10'. They all represent quality and integrity. And we would highly recommend John McLellan Contracting Ltd. to anyone.

Create Two bedrooms and cap off builders two storey entrance

This company is astounding. Their professionalism and integrity begins with John McLellan when he comes to quote the project, and continues through all of their staff - office and site, as well as all of their subcontractors that we had dealings with. Our crew was Craig and Kate - and their communication and craftsmanship was top notch. They listened to us as the project unfolded, as there were a few things that needed to be tweaked - and everything came out exactly as we had planned. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a top notch renovator/contractor. You will be hiring someone who does everything above board - permits, inspections, etc. We have already had John quote a second job.
Thanks McLellan Contracting.

New roof, siding repair, drywall repair

From start to finish, it was a top-notch experience (this work was done about 10 years ago). John and each member of his team is not only professional, but highly skilled. The quality of their work was superb. No pressure whatsoever, and John listened carefully when we described the work we wanted done. I believe we received a follow-up call to determine our level of satisfaction and if we had questions or concerns. Based on this experience I would recommend McLellan Contracting very highly.

fixed our roof

We were doing a kitchen reno. When they took out the ceiling we found mold. Our roof has always had a couple of leaks. We tried other companies but no one fixed the problem.
John McLellan gave us an estimate. He explained why his roofing was superior and it all made sense.
It has been 2 years now and not one drop of water! Congrats to John and team! 100% happy

Roof, windows and skylights

Our roof started to leak at the corner of the dormer in our century old home… we needed a roofer ASAP, we were recommended to John McLellan Contracting through my employer and three others who used their services and were very satisfied. After an assessment, it was recommended to have the roof replaced as we had some serious issues. We were explained thoroughly the products they use and how the work was to be completed with no pressure. I also inquired about the original windows being replaced and possibly an additional dormer thinking it’s the only way to utilize the loft. Instead of a dormer and the cost attached to that, it was suggested to go with skylights instead. We can’t express how happy we are with the results… there is no comparison! The loft went from a dark, dingy, depressing area which was basically used for storage to a whole new living space. The windows and the skylights make all the difference not only to the esthetics of the loft but to the value of our home. Great job done overall, from the sales rep to the team(s) that did the work… very professional, courteous and respectful. Thanks!

Separate Enterance

We had a separate entrance done that is now crumbling, because it was not done properly. We contacted John and he wanted to charge us to fix his error. They have now blocked me on FB so I cannot message them anymore after telling me they would get back to me in 24 hours!

You were blocked from FB for leveling false accusations and trying to tarnish the reputation of JMCI.
Here are the facts:

1. The job was done 11 years ago.

2. The job was done properly and up to the Building Code in 2005. A scope of work was created at that time, and approved by yourself. The drawings were approved and stamped by the city. Inspections took place throughout the job, and the permit was closed following an inspection by municipal officials who confirmed that the job had been done properly in 2005.

3. JMCI consistently recommends work be completed to better than Code and, depending on the job, sometimes significantly better than Code, in order to ensure better than average structural integrity through bad weather as well as use and lack of maintenance. Of course, the more reinforcement a job involves, the more expensive the job becomes. The picture which you have shown demonstrates damages caused by lateral frost heaving.

4. You advised by email in 2014 that another contractor had proposed to repair and reinforce the project for less than half the price which we quoted at that time, once again showing that cost was the more important factor to you. While the implication was left that you would proceed with the other contractor, it now appears that you were not even willing to pay that lower cost.

5. JMCI has no error to “fix” as the building permit process clearly supports the proper procedure of our work. There is a saying, “Pay now (for a job done above and beyond the minimum), or pay more later to remedy potential problems.

To refresh your memory, we are forwarding copies of the original job, together with copies of the quote to firm up the wall following damage from frost. In that manner you can recall the true facts of our business dealings with one another.
It is quite clear that you have intentionally chosen to threaten JMCI with damage to our reputation by addressing this complaint, after two years of silence, through social media rather than by private e-mail or telephone as an ordinary person would do. We suspect that you have chosen this route to try to coerce JMCI into providing services to you to firm up the wall at no cost to you. We will no longer do business nor will we respond to your threats. Your posts to FB and now Home Stars excluded the facts, which were exceedingly relevant to any individual seeing your posts and trying to decide whether to do business with JMCI. We see this as intentional on your part. Here is another fact. A person commits the offence of libel when they publish (through social media or elsewhere) an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation.

I trust that this finalizes all of the issues between us.

Roofing, Window, and Vinyl Siding Renovations

Roofing, Window, and Vinyl Siding Renovations

Dear John McLellan,

About a year ago, our town home was beginning to have some major problems with a leaky roof on the top of the unit and leaky flat roof on the third floor deck. To make matters worse, the windows on the third floor were beginning to rot. Despite our best efforts to obtain help from family members in the roofing trade and from various independent contractors we were not able to obtain a fair quote nor the personal attention and guidance a first time home owner needed.

Imagine our surprise when we first met John in December 2009. John came out and gave my family an honest evaluation of my roofs and windows and sent us a fair quote within a few days.

Regarding the workmanship and the work crews we had the pleasure of meeting:

The first round of work involved refinishing the steep roof on our townhouse as well as refinishing the flat roof on our deck. A gentleman named Leroy and his crew treated this house like it was their own. They were careful, polite, considerate and honest. Midway through the roof work Leroy noticed that our dryer vent was not connected and that lint was spewing into the attic. Leroy sent me photos directly from his mobile phone and called to ask permission to make sure all the other vents in the attic were connected. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty.

Regarding the second phase of the project: windows, siding and insulation of the exterior walls behind the siding:

We had the pleasure of meeting Kate and her assistant for phase two of the project immediately following the completion of phase one. This is a company that knows how to manage a project to ensure there is always activity. Kate and her crew were affectionately referred to as a team of home repair ninjas by me and my wife because they came in quietly and worked super efficiently and left the place looking better than ever when they arrived. In the process of replacing the siding on our balcony, Kate demonstrated a keen sense of attention to detail when she ensured our door trim was recapped to match the rest of the siding. Any other company might have left the old material in place to save time and labour but not this one. This is what customer service is all about!!!

Speaking of customer service, I was able to reach Sue at the office for immediate assistance with any questions whether it was about financial matters or the work. No waiting, no call backs.

John, your staff is a true credit to your company. We are proud to endorse your company to our family and friends. Although we never want anything to go wrong with our home in the future, we know if / when it does – we can confidently call on your company to come to our rescue.

Yours sincerely,

David and Nicoletta N.
