We considered several contractors for our laundry room project on the main floor of our home, and narrowed down the final quotes to two firms: The Home Depot, and Monarch Kitchen and Bath Centre Ltd. We ultimately decided on Monarch Kitchen and Bath Centre Ltd for the following reasons:
1. Their initial design and estimate process for quotation was thorough, and they helped convey the value of the project in an easy to understand manner.
2. They understood our needs for the laundry room, and balanced that with our goals for our home.
3. Monarch presented their plan in a detailed, and concise way - including taking the time to draft two design options.
4. Two of my neighbours had used Monarch and provided an endorsement for their high standards of workmanship, and customer service.
Getting Started / Design Process:
Shortly following the in home consultation, we met at Monarch’s showroom to review the initial drawings. Our designer Janet was quite hospitable and walked us through her designs which were created based on my wife and I describing what we thought we needed in the laundry room, and what would like in our dream laundry room. In the end, we chose the more elaborate design with increased storage and cabinet space - more of a dream scenario – partly because Janet conveyed the value that a well designed laundry room could generate towards the value of a home.
In the following weeks my wife met with Janet to review cabinet material, hardware, etc. In that time we also received a professional project plan from Kelley at head office, which would serve as a timeline, and budget guideline. It was very nice to have a well formatted scope document that we could later refer to if there were any questions or confusion about what was discussed / included in the quotation. For instance, we later decided to add some additional timers and home automation, including upgrading the light switches in the laundry room to automatic room sensors – a must have for under cabinet lighting – and Monarch made all the arrangements – including bringing in their skilled electrician Vicky to get the extra work done and allow other trades to continue humming along.
We reserved the painting portion of the project to save a few bucks (my idea – not my wife’s). It was actually a false savings as it ended up eating my time plus I changed the paint colour on the walls once the cabinets were installed. In retrospect, I really should have left this to Monarch.
Of course, it is unrealistic to think that nothing could go wrong along the way. We did have a few minor issues. What I was impressed with the most is the responsiveness from this company; options were always discussed for remedy, and the owner (Neil) was absolutely fair about associated costs.
We really loved Mike (our installer) he has a heart made of gold - and really helped us understand the process along the way. He suggested the best idea of the design (in my opinion)- rolling wheels for the dryer / washer combo stack. It worked!! Now if I have to get behind the machine to clean or access the water/gas - I can by myself!
In summary, I would definitely recommend Monarch Kitchen and Bath for your next project.
