Company rep came and looked at the space for the furnace installation and gave recommendation on type of furnace to install. The recommendation was a Maytag high efficiency 2 stage furnace. We approve the quote and set a time for installation. The Installation technician came for what was suppose to be a 4 to 6 hour job. He seemed to be having difficulty with the installation, had to leave for supplies, and called another technician who was more experienced to help. The project ended up taking in excess of 12 hours. After he had completed the work, I went down to inspect. I was absolutely appalled at his choice of where he put the air intake and exhaust pipes. I told him the pipes were unacceptable. He replied there was no other choice. My husband called the company the next day to told them the pipes were unacceptable. They assured us that it would be done to our satisfaction. We made another appointment. The same installer came and we advised him where the pipes could go along the existing duct work. He agreed and redid it so there was not pipes going everywhere. The furnace we were recommened turned out to be much noiser than we understood that it would be. It is a good furnace but we were concerned by the volume of it, so we asked for a service call plus it was making a squeaking noise. The same techincian came, listened to it, called Maytag the manufaturer, for confirmamation of noise level. They assured him this was the sound it made. The technician had never heard this model running before. He tweaked the fan to get it to quit squeaking. It was not 100% but over time as the furnace settled in, the squeaking subsided. The company is more than willing to make sure we, as customers, are 100% satified. I apprecaite that. After the experience, we as homeowners, regret not seeing this furnace installed somewhere first and would have apprciated knowing the 2 stage fan was a noisier funrnace. Our TV room is right beside the furnace room and it is a sound distraction. The experience would have been more positive if the techician didn't seem to have so much trouble installing. He left a purple stain in my deep freeze from pipe glue dripping and knicked a piece in my wall removing the old furnace. My recommenadtion to other customers is ask more questions about noise levels, know there will be more pipes so discuss ahead of time with the techician where they might go so there are not pipes sticking out all over. Know the intaller has experience with the furnace he is installing in your home.
