A huge mistake

We were extremely pleased with our first 2 moves with Tippet - first in 2009 from a condo to a house, and then in 2015 from a house to a condo. However, for our last move from a condo to a house, Tippet charged us $3500 - even though the estimate was only $1900. There were no issues encountered during this move, and no explanation was given for why we were charged almost twice the estimate. For our 2015 move into a condo, Tippet charged us $1800 which is consistent with the estimate for our latest move.

In addition, the movers did not provide any of these services promised in their estimate: 1) Shrink wrap all upholstery 2) Packing of mattresses into plastic bags 3) Floor runners will be utilized 4) Handrails fully wrapped.

When we challenged the Tippett office about the excessive charge and deficiencies, they said that I should have complained to the movers while signing their move completion form. But even if I had done that, the final invoice wasn't actually sent until days later.

Appalling and despicable conduct

Do not use Tippet Richardson (TR). We had a miserable experience with them on our recent move. To make a long story short, the lead member of the moving crew was unfortunately taken ill early on and could no longer work. TR made no effort to bring in a replacement. With the largely inexperienced crew now short-handed, the job ran way over the estimated hours and created conflict with the other people who wanted to move in. My wife and I, both seniors, had to pitch in spending hours carrying boxes and heavy items out to the truck. In the end many of our possessions were strewn across front lawn, an embarrassing spectacle for the neighbourhood. To cap it all, the remaining crew, with no experience in packing, were unable to get everything into the truck and had to wait for second truck to arrive. Clearly, the employee illness was nobody's fault but TR could have handled the outcome much better.
That was bad enough and then we got their invoice - 36% higher than the estimate! We were being charged for all the additional hours and got no thanks or recognition for our efforts to help. Instead we were blamed for having more goods than estimated--despite their detailed pre-estimate walk-through when they were shown everything and the fact that we had actually disposed of several large items. After some heated exchanges, they reduced the invoice somewhat but still left us to pay well over the estimate. And finally, they charged our credit for the revised amount without even telling us.
To repeat, do not use Tippet Richardson. (As a footnote, this is not to blame the crew members who worked very hard - the problem is with TR's sales and management team.)

Markham Downtown

My move with Tippet Richardson was very smooth. I called them up after finding them online and conversed with one of their representatives. I preferred a virtual survey which was done a day after and I was provided a quote on the same day. I decided to go ahead with them. I was moving from North York to Markham Downtown. On the day of the move there was unexpected snowfall however they were on time and the guys who did the move were extremely strong and professional. I had a great conversation with Roberta who was a true professional and very friendly. Me and my partner were happy with the services. The quote which was provided was also accurate. Overall the move was well planned and executed, which is a rarity when moving. Would recommend Tippet Richardson to others.

Do not recommend

I hired TR because of their reputation as a reliable moving company. However, I cannot recommend them due to: 1) the actual cost being $500 over the estimate 2) the sales rep being let go while I was arranging the move. I had to be told by her rather than a company rep. informing me there would be a new rep handing my move. I was concerned my move would get lost in the shuffle 3) I purchased Market Value Protection insurance assuming it would cover any damage & was not informed that, although they put a value of $45,000 on the contents, it does not cover anything older than, essentially, 14 years as it is based on depreciation of 5-7%/year, not value ( I had wondered why, when making the claim, they had asked me how old the damaged pieces were vs an appraised value). Confusing. 4) there was $900 worth of damage to my antiques that, of course, the insurance would not cover. They did give me a "goodwill" amount of $300 5) they charged me an additional $339 for packing materials (wardrobe & mirror boxes) which they had indicated were complementary 6) after a wasted month of back & forth emails (mostly my emails to them asking for clarification) & a lot of forensic analysis on my part (they did provide me w/ supporting info.) they finally told me that they had assumed I had purchased those boxes as they were not returned! Really! What would I want w/ 2 wardrobe boxes & 10 mirror boxes in a 2 bedroom apt.! They did refund me the amount but what a waste of time. I should have done my homework especially regarding insurance & should have read the Homestar reviews before deciding on a moving company. Caveat Emptor! Lesson learned, Nick.

The worst. - Stay away.

They gave us an initial quote. Then came to the house and said it should be significantly more. we agreed. Then the move came and they charged us almost double the revised quote. All sorts of reasons given. They said we could have stopped the move half way rather than agree to their increased estimates throughout the move. . Bottom line. Double the cost. Could say more but would never use them again

Major move

This company is horrible. Contracts are not legally binding. Because they have your credit card they will put whatever ridiculous charge on it without prior notification. They hire people who do not record all your items so when items are missing they do not take responsibility. They damage your stuff and when you file a claim they give you much less than the value of the item or just refuse stating that there is no evidence that the damage occurred in their care. They do not provide details of the trailer weight prior to picking up your stuff so they can put whatever weight they want.

International Move

A short list of the worst service experience we have ever had. Personal and Private Data breached via email hacks leading exposure of our names, emails, phone, numbers, new home address, spreadsheet including a list of all of our belongs with associated value. Goods packed terribly with many items showing damage. Worst communication I have every experienced, completely unprofessional. Take zero responsibility for their incompetence. Don't be fooled by pleasantries. Once your deposit is paid you are meaningless. Stay away. Hire someone else.

Avoid Tippet Richardson like you would COVID-19

A local 3 day move from house to condo (2.8Km). Day 3 was a disaster. Three items damaged (dropped) when unloading truck; the top to a travertine marble end-table, a large desk and a component cabinet (one of five) of a 118 inch wall unit. Initial settlement: desk denied as it was "falling apart"- replacement $900; the travertine end table allowed at $350 (replacement $1500) and the wall unit allowed at $200 (replacement $10,000). At the conclusion of the move TR refused to move 3 large shelves; part of the wall unit. I had to pay extra (cash) to have them brought up. So much for contracts. They are not to be trusted.

Moving from Whitby to Oshawa

Lynn arranged everything for our move with overnight holding and everything went well. The moving team, led by Curtis, was Excellent, hard-working, faster than expected. It was a bit more difficult as we had very large furniture to fit into our smaller new home, but they accomplished it. All wore masks, which was important during this time of Covid 19. Thanks

Move from a two bedroom apartment into a house.

Movers took an inordinate amount of time. They were polite, but very slow and careless. They damaged several items and lost others. Luckily, the concierge at my building (who was concerned about the movers) checked to make sure they’d taken everything. The concierge found several items left behind including a large and very valuable (26 x 40 inch) piece of artwork. When I contacted the company and reported that the artwork and other items were missing, there was zero customer service. It was a terrible experience.
