One year later we are very pleased with our home. The builder is fair and finished the project in a relatively timely manner. The finishings were excellent and we are happy we our home. Thanks Northstar!

Excellent builder

People who are disgruntled are the ones who like to write reviews the most. My experience with North Star has been great. We visited the site every day - yes, every day - and watched everything from excavation to footings, basement walls, framing, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, insulation, drywall, bricking, roofing. We took pictures every step of the way. Any one who says this builder uses cheap materials doesn't know what they are talking about. TJI silent floor joists, plywood (not OSB) subfloors sanded and screwed, formaldehyde free insulation, shut offs under all sinks, real wood (not MDF) mouldings, reinforced rebar in garage floor, cement board (not vinyl) for eaves, and the list goes on. People think because a tile cracks or a nail pops that they have big problems. What matters most is what's behind the drywall. Take it from me: there is nothing cheap about this builder.

Some issues were resolved

After bringing up my concerns to NorthStar, we spoke to a representative and some of the issues were resolved.

Our concerns included:
- Leaky taps
- Water leaking through garage ceiling
- Cold spots on upper floor
- Sound travels easily from basement to second floor
- Draft coming in through windows
- Incomplete work (caulking on tiles, faucets needed replacing)

We were told some of the issues in the house can happen in any house, depending on the location and direction that the house is facing and aesthetic issues, such as uneven doors and cracks, happen over time as the house settles. Not to mention, all the houses have been inspected and are up to code. I was assured all the materials used in the house are eco-friendly and far superior to the materials used way back in the day.

New Home

If you're thinking about buying DO NOT purchase from this builder. Everything is inside the home is cheap and I'm sure they used the cheapest contractors they could find. This will all be fine if they had small percentage of customer service, frankly I don't think the concept exist with this builder. You are screwed if you're TARION warranty is expired because if they decided to fix something within that period and the same problem returns outside of the warranty no one cares, you're on your own Do your homework before you purchase a home; whether it cost $300K or $3M, you deserve a great product and service. We're now 3yrs in, our basement got flooded because the sump pump no longer works. Another "dollar store" quality material that was placed in our home. The things I mentioned here is just a fraction of all the crap that has happened and the extra expense we've incurred because of someone's lack of professionalism & ethics.

Basement renovation

Guys were great they completed the job in 4 days instead of 5 as originally forecasted. They were very neat, trustworthy, thorough and pleasant. For any question that I had they eagerly provided an answer or identified a resource to obtain the answer. I am very pleased with the work there were no surprises and everything went smoothly as planned. I would highly recommend this crew for any work performed in your household.

New House

I like the layout of the house. But in terms of their warranty service and workmanship, it is terrible. Issues start popping around 2 years. The issues including leaking faucet, plumbing, shingle flying off, granite trimming broken, concrete pot hole in the garage. This is a relatively new house. I don't expect to have some many problems.

Please stay clear of this builder. They use the cheapest materials and their workmanship is extremely poor. They try very hard to avoid repairing anything from small to big even though its listed on your warranty form. Very poor quality!

New Home

Lacking in quality and workmanship. It's as if they hire the cheapest contractors they can find. Compared to similarly priced homes we've seen by other builders they really need to step it up. House was not even cleaned decently when we moved in. Dismiss our concerns about everything including dead grass not laid properly, raised shingles, cold spots in house etc. Would not buy again for long term residence.

They were a good service and I'd recommend it to friends and family. But overall they were normal and average. If I were to buy another home I would probably deal with them. But with some conditions.
