Purchased many items for home, baby and personal uses

We've been members of direct buy for several years and have saved loads of money. Major purchases include appliances, electronics, furniture and personal items & gifts. We re-cooped our fee for joining with the first appliances we purchased. It's NOT a ! It really is the 'real deal' you just need to be prepared to research and visit the center to look through catalogues. It takes a little getting used to but once you've gotten the hang of it, you're pretty much set. We've saved anywhere from 30%-50% on new appliances, over 50% on furniture and lighting, 50% of baby items (nursery, stroller, highchair etc.) and have even purchased jewelery, high-end designer hand bags & sunglasses at half the price of retail. I've never had a retailer come close to matching the price on appliances or electronics. We really do buy things at wholesale cost. Yes, there are sometimes handling fees and customs/duty charges if items are shipped out of the USA but even with some of the extra costs it is still a much better deal then we'd ever have found elsewhere. I would especially recommend Direct Buy membership to first-time homeowners and new parents. You'll re-coop your $$ in no time! And, if you're like us, you'll get fabulous high0end things for the price you'd pay for the regular stuff at local retail chains!

Bathroom

DirectBuy is an enigma. You win in some areas and lose in others. For furnishings, cabinetry, flooring, tiles etc. DB is great. It gives you a one stop shopping opportunity that most large speciality stores do not give. One has to spend the time and effort to get the right stuff and patience - you need plenty of that. If you do not have any of the above, DB is not the right place for you.
I think that there is not much savings on certain electronics, windows, doors, countertops, shower stalls, furnace etc. ( all big ticket items) but get great deals on other exclusive items which generally are special orders for large stores. If the item is not a special order, then the large speciality stores give a better bargain.
Depends on what your future shopping list is. If it is windows, doors, building material etc - then you are at the wrong door. But if it is do with flooring, tiles, draperies, lighting, furniture items, faucets then DB is great.

Overall, my experience is bitter sweet. But nothing is perfect in this world. Nothing is gained ( savings on certain items)without a pain (upfront membership).

replacing 25 year old furnishings

Great product range in the American stores and our local outlet could be better. Savings on the brand name items I purchased where exceptional. The format of the store takes some getting used to. If your old enough to remember buying from the Eaton's catalog you"ll get the Directbuy concept. Good bang for my buck.

Multiple purchases

Direct buy offers some good prices if you buy what is exactly in their catalogues - however, if you ask for a quote or for them to go out of the box in any way is so incredibly difficult for them to follow up with you if it isnt done on the spot. You can never get the same person again on the phone - if you get a live person you are lucky. You seem to get the run around. If you are in the centre - things seem fine but once you leave and try to call them to rectify a situation - good luck.

Direct Buy is a FRAUD! Buyer Beware!!

If you are planning to join Direct Buy please do yourself a big favour and stay far away from this FRAUD COMPANY. Unlike the other customers claim that they have all brands and products, the reality is that they only carry a limited number of suppliers and very few products. Most of the time these items are so expensive and you could find similar products from brand name companies cheaper in regular retail stores. I have joined Direct Buy (at that time they were UCC Total Home and after couple of months, they changed their name to Direct Buy) and spent $3000 as membership fees. I tried to buy several items from them. Items such as: Sharp Aquos 42" LCD TV (which was the highest sized LCD at the time) and checked with Direct Buy for their prices. To my shock, they told me that they don't carry this model/brand and there was no way I could get it through them. I tried to get couple of windows, entrance doors and other building materials from them. All they have is some manufacturers from Vaughan, ON and they wanted me to drive to the manufacturer's place to have a look at these models and Direct Buy did not even have those prices with them! Same with appliances such as barbeque, range etc.

Don't trust these people for a moment and if you cannot believe my words then just do a google search about the review for this company. You will be surprised to see how many people are out there (both in US and in Canada) who want to sue this company and to file a class action lawsuit against them. So, please do yourself a big favor and keep your hard earned money in your pocket rather than being a victim of this fraud!

Appliances, Bathroom Renovation,Furniture

My husband is pretty cheap so the initial cost to join seemed a lot - I was very leary as it sounded too good to be true. I can't believe how much we have actually saved by ordering top quality items, leather couches from Ashley for a fraction of the cost - bathroom fixtures - huge savings! Best investment we have ever made joining Direct Buy!! Highly recommend it if you are going to be spending alot of renos

Been a member 5 years and going strong.

No better place to buy my appliances. I shopped Home depot and Lowes and received a phone call before they started running commercials. Thought I would check it out. They had every brand!! The prices were better and they even showed me how I could get the shipping to my home for free. Well worth the investment. Since then I have bought nearly everything from them and everything came earlier then promised. I tell everyone I know. You must check this out for yourself. Prepare yourself first. Know the prices on what you want before you go. You must decide to join when you go.

Home Furniture

Direct Buy is excellent, friendly and attentive. They take the time to look over your selections and you can't beat the price because you are buying directly from the manufacture. Overall, I would recommend and your buying a new home, furniture and appliances this would be the place to shop.

Home furnishings and appliances

We decided to join after we bought our first home. Sales reps. were a bit pushy, but overall they showed us the value and the savings we would gain. Their service and knowledge of the products is amazing. They can help you find what you want or a perfect alternative.

Mega purchases for new home.

Up front membership is costly but cost of merchandise should offset this by far. Shipping of products from manufacturers takes time but it's worth the wait as some items could come from the States. Enormous variety in products and savings galore.
