Baeumler Quality Construction And Renovations Inc.

*** BEWARE*** We hired this company to have a stress free experience because of their name. It has been the complete opposite.

I contracted Baeumler Quality Construction to complete a pool and landscaping project. We had entered into the contract in March of 2021, where I was informed that there was a pool in production that was cancelled and I was given the opportunity to take the pool and have it delivered in a 10 week time. I had to contact the office of Baeumler to find out the status of the delivery after each delay because NO ONE was communicating to me until I contacted them. After a few delays, and very little communication from the company, I informed them that I wanted to cancel the whole project. At this point the project was pushed to August of 2021. I emailed them my cancellation beginning of August. The senior business manager informed me that he would look into the cancellation and my deposit that I had made.
I was then informed that I could not have my deposit back in full. I have contacted a lawyer and have tired to mediate the situation.

No work has been completed on my property. The only item physically giving to me has been a permit for work. No proof on where my deposit is has been provided.

I now have to proceed with the help of a lawyer to continue trying to get my deposit back.

NO WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON MY PROPERTY.
The company refuses to return my deposit.

In 2019 we completed some major backyard renovations. In investigating and interviewing several contractors, in the end we decided to go with two that were “Baeumler Approved”. The name itself, “Baeumler Approved”, in my opinion would essentially lead someone to believe or assume along the lines of “I approve of these contractors” (yes, Baeumler approved is very clear that their CYA is that they are not responsible, understood). We’ve been disappointed with the quality of work of both Baeumler Approved contractors. The one at least engaged and made good on the poor quality with financial compensation. The other however, in my opinion, poor quality of work aside, is not honouring a warranty and has completely disengaged. After a year’s long attempt to “work with” the contractor (who, in my opinion, has been extremely passive, protracted, evasive and non-committal for an offense that is blatantly egregious) decided to submit a complaint with Baeumler Approved.
A very detailed complaint (i.e. media/photos/videos, contracts, audio clips, copies of correspondence, etc., either attached or available on Google Drive share) was submitted to Baeumler Approved the afternoon of Sunday July 11, 2021. Baeumler Approved acknowledged receipt the morning of Monday July 12, 2021, citing (amongst other things) that "We at Baeumler Approved take complaints against our members seriously" and "Please rest assured we have policies in place to ensure that to the extent possible all Members abide by our terms of membership and treat all customers as we expect". 2-weeks later, Monday July 27, 2021, after hearing nothing from either the contractor nor Baeumler Approved, I followed up with Baeumler Approved and was told that “At this time our staff are reviewing the issue and have reached out to the contractor regarding the issue” and that they “cannot provide me with a timeline, each issue is dealt with on a case by case basis”. Another 2-weeks later, Monday August 9, 2021, after still hearing nothing from either the contractor nor Baeumler Approved, I called the number listed on the Baeumler Approved Facebook page – that number is for Baeumler Construction. The person I spoke with was gracious enough to provide their email address and offered to forward along my concerns to Baeumler Approved. Having still heard nothing, later that week, the morning of Friday August 13, 2021, I emailed Baeumler Approved and requested simply some sort of status update or expectation setting, requested by end of day Monday August 16, 2021. There was no follow up, no status update, no setting of expectations. 5-weeks, zero.
I’ve now decided to submit complaints against Baeumler Approved. As I said, we’ve not been impressed with the quality of work of two Baeumler Approved contractors, the one in particular, in my opinion, being egregious. If you should end up attempting to deal with Baeumler Approved, you may find, if this is telling in some way, that it’s a challenge to identify even a physical location for Baeumler Approved, or a phone number, or a name to go along with any correspondence – it’s all generically and anonymously “Baeumler Approved Staff”. In my opinion, one might almost get the impression these are strategies and tactics to avoid responsibility, accountability, and complicity. As stated earlier, Baeumler Approved is very clear they are not responsible. But if their approved contractors have no accountability and act with impunity, what exactly is the purpose of “Baeumler Approved”. The whole experience has been thoroughly disappointing.
Bottom line – as of this writing, it's now been 6-weeks, no status, no setting of expectations, ample attempts to contact and engage, nothing. I am at a loss. I would never have imaged the Baeumler name to be associated to such an experience.

If you think you're getting a different kind of contractor or the quality and experience of the company's HGTV star when you hire BQC, you're not. BQC is just like everyone else in the industry: they over-promise and under-deliver. You're told during the sales process that they use a cloud-based software program to manage the project timeline and budget, but no one in the company appears to know how to use it properly, so after 2 months, the information shown is useless and out-of-date. We were also told that BQC 'owns' a cabinetry company, called Baeumler Custom Cabinetry (BCC). This is not true. BCC is a cabinetry design service only; all cabinetry is manufactured by a third party in Quebec, which created a number of problems throughout the project.

Where BQC really fails to deliver is in the selection and management of their trades. They claim to only use highly skilled, "Baeumler approved" trades, but several of the trades they used delivered sub-standard work. Much of our custom millwork is cracking and pulling away from the walls (which they claim is a humidity issue, not an installation issue) and the final bill for electrical work was more than twice the original quote (despite zero increases in scope).

The actual project timeline was 6.5 months, vs the original quote of 4.5 months. During the two month delay, there were stretches of several days (in a couple of cases more than a week) where there were no trades on site and no work performed. We're now more than 2 months past the date when we moved back in and we're still dealing with repair issues.

On the plus side, we found most of BQC's on-site personnel to be very pleasant and they generally want to do a good job. This statement does not extend to the company's senior management. The senior partner on our project never once called to ask how the project was going and never visited the site to assess the status of the project or quality of the work. The only times he came on-site were when we demanded a meeting to address concerns over the budget and/or timeline.

At the end of the day, I expected a company bearing the Bauemler name to be as capable and skilled as the personality we see on TV. Unfortunately this is not the case and I would never recommend them.

Working with Baeumler Quality Construction was the smartest idea my husband and I could have ever come up with when we finally decided to finish our basement. We looked around for a long while for a contracting company to employ. Most didn't even bother returning our phone call and those who did, didn't seem to care. BQC on the other hand, responded very promptly and showed a friendly and genuine interest in working together on our project. We had a bad experience with our past renovation, so were wary of who would work to the standards we were looking for. However, after our first meeting with Paul, we were confident in starting our project with him. During the construction, everything went smoothly. Barry was always available to answer my emails or phone calls and the tradesmen working in my house were always polite, friendly and very tidy! The entire process from beginning to end was simply enjoyable. I'm almost sad it's over; almost! The finished product is incredible, the workmanship and attention to detail superb and the functionality is wonderful. This was the most pleasant experience I've ever had with regards to work performed in my home. Project was finished on time and within estimated cost in spite of a number of 'surprises' once the room was gutted. Staff was polite and very professional. Would hire this group again in a heartbeat.

We recently bought an older home in the Mimico area of Toronto. We needed the second story renovated ~ skylights/suntunnels, floor levelled, new hardwood floors, new tiles in bathroom, new drywall, new roof, new doors/frames/baseboard/quarter-round installed etc. Bauemler Team was friendly, conscientious, on time and professional! Work quality is exceptional. After hearing a number of renovation/contractor horror stories from friends, we realize how lucky we were to work with the Bauemler Team. We have recommended the Baeumler Team to friends and family. Not surprising that the Home and Garden network gave them their own show - Do It Yourself Disasters You won't be disapointed. They do it right!

This was the best contractor experience ever! Work started on time, finished early. The guys were incredibly considerate never blocked driveways, took off their shoes inside, etc. The work was great, and when it didn't exactly match what we wanted, they did it over with no complaint.
