As an architecture geek, I saw the potential of the wood panelled basement. I felt overwhelmed and did not know where to start. Rosa treated my project as if it were her house. Obviously it’s not as a simple as a 30-minute home improvement episode, it was painstaking work. But it’s her expertise in interior design and project management pushed the contractors to the final line.
The brief was to turn a dull basement into an ideal space for a female professional who can recharge in this bright apartment with a spa-like bathroom. What Rosa taught me the most was her meticulous eye to design from a 360 perspective and how mundane elements can work beautifully together. Not only does she have the ability to draw precise floor plans to satisfy the city permit department, but she can also source materials that do not look cookie cutter and from a Main Street store catalogue.
The end result was an one-of-a-kind, calm, organic, bright home that redefines what a ‘basement’ is. She sourced eco-friendly materials, like low VOC emission paint; water-resistant, Scandinavian looking luxury vinyl; sink faucet and shower and LED lighting. Throughout the whole journey, a thousand decisions were made to ensure the maximum comfort of my ideal tenant — and guess what? Rosa’s design manifested the ideal person, almost exactly to the brief.
