We got in touch with Tom after doing a bit of online search, where he had very high reviews. Our house is from around 2000, so some wear and tear was expected. But our stairs were in an odd shape.
We thought it would be a simple job: sand & repaint a some steps, done and done. But during his very first visit, Tom pointed out all the issues and problems with our stairs; from half-assed step placement, to incomplete finishes to plain simple wrong cuts! And even some "interesting" things; according to him, the trim & finish on our basement stairs was so bad "this was the first time I ever saw something like that" (his words!).
We went for a full replacement of the basement stairs, and sanding + refinishing the main stairs + painting the trims, risers and stringers. The quote called for a full week of service. Tom kept in touch with us all along the way, to make sure we fully understood what was going to happen, as well as keeping the quote fair. Communication was definitely top notch; at no point he tried to upsell anything.
The basement was done ahead, in a full day. Majid & Matthew did a superb job with minimal disruption to our daily activities, and even fixed some minor issues on their own!
For the main stairs, the work started on a Tuesday, and by Thursday everything was done. Nick and his crew worked tirelessly through the whole day; they were super professional and detail-oriented. Covered all the areas with plastic from ground to ceiling, regularly vacuumed the area, and made sure disruptions were kept to a minimal.
We didn't fully know what to expect of the whole process; we work from home, and so disruptions could be tricky. No issues whatsoever happened, and the end result far surpassed what we could've imagined!!
Sure, you may be able to find cheaper prices elsewhere. But you definitely get what you're paying for. Our sentiment is that we got the very best, and the work shows for itself! I'd recommend Tom & StairSteps in a heartbeat!!
