Bad attitude and work

The customer service from this company is beyond terrible. As is the shoddy work that they do. I don't usually like to write bad reviews, but I used this company to remove an old boiler and replace it with a new Navian combi boiler and also to replace some bathroom plumbing during a Reno at my house. I first met with Martiin who I thought would be doing the work, however he did some of the job and then ended up sending two of his apprentices. They took a really long time and seemed confused at to what they were doing. Eventually they finished up the bathroom piping. When I told Martin that I wanted to get the pipes inspected by the city, he said that they were not up to code (told me this after I had paid) - despite my insistence at the start of the job that everything must pass inspection. I ended up replacing a lot of the work they did, as it did not meet code standards. One of the apprentices even put their foot through the ceiling below while they were working, I later had to pay someone else to repair this.

The combi boiler work was carried out in part by Martin and again mostly by his assistant, as he kept running off to other jobs. He said the work would likely cost around $10k but it came in more around $16K +, with some extra piping work. There was a 15% markup on the boiler unit itself which made it about $1k more than he originally told me it would cost.

Less than 3 months later one of the zone valves stopped working on the unit. When I called Martin back to make the repair, he got huffy and said that I should pay him for his time. I pointed out that the part should not be failing so soon after install. He accused me of "Monkeying" about with the unit. Now another zone valve has stopped working on the unit (no monkeying about), which indicates that there is something wrong with those valves. I can not get through to Northwoods plumbing and they are ignoring my voice messages.

After a week of trying to get some sort of contact with the company, I can only conclude that they do not want me as a client and do not stand by the work they do. They have left me with the impression that expecting their work to comply to code or actually work is beyond their responsibility. Very quick to ask for payment though. I have tried repeatedly to get Martin to put in for a permit of the work, but he does not reply to texts nor does he ever answer his phone.

Approximate cost of services:
$20,000.00
