Home Renovation

Roxy helped facilitate our home renovation for the interior design department. She played an extensive role, as she led the overall design, mapped the new interior layouts and electrical layouts. Roxy also advised on sourcing for appliances and fixtures that would fit our budget and schedule.

Overall, we had a very positive experience working with Roxy Shi Design. Roxy is a very good listener who always factored in our feedback and consistently answered our questions in a prompt manner.

Whenever our renovation encountered any roadblocks, Roxys positive attitude and focus on the end goal enabled our team to overcome the obstacles and to complete a renovation that exceeded our expectations.

Thanks, Roxy for all your insights and support throughout the process.

Living Room Display

We wanted to have a gorgeous custom cabinet for our living room. Through our kitchen supplier, we found Roxy our designer. She is always on time, super organized, and efficient. Even for our small cabinet project, she came to our house and the showroom multiple times to make sure all the details are correct and available.

My husband wanted an aquarium but he doesn't want to do the maintenance work. So Roxy came up with the idea to have a digital one with the spare TV we had, so no maintenance is needed and my husband can have any type of fish he wants! We absolutely loved this idea! And the materials she picked for us were excellent, exactly what I was looking for - sophisticated and muted. Now we have our home aquarium, display, and storage for our doggo's food! :)
Great job Roxy! Thank you for your service.

Basement Reno

We hired Roxy and her team from a friend's referral to renovate our basement. In the beginning, we were only hoping to get some help on choosing materials so the space looks brighter. However, the outcome was complete unexpectedly good! We've never thought that we can use space like this. And the kitchen company she recommended is excellent too. I'm glad that we listened to her recommendations and worked with her teams. I can't imagine what would happen if I need to go outsource myself. Big thanks to Roxy Shi Design! :)

Poor communication, missed deadlines

We had a negative experience working with Roxy on our renovation. Unfortunately, we experienced repeated poor communication, missed deadlines, and a general feeling of disorganization, all of which left us feeling quite frustrated. We also feel as though we had to basically design everything ourselves and did not receive actual design assistance or feedback.

Was it a challenging time? Yes. Anticipated covid-related labour and material shortages made us put the renovation on hold before construction started. Drawings however were not subject to uncontrollable shipping or manufacturing delays. Why they were delayed, we will never know. But we do know that we will be working with a different designer when we resume the renovation.

2) Finishes options are prepared for review based on the owner's Wish List. Including tiles, hardwood floor options, paint colors for rooms on both the ground floor and second floor.

May 12, 2021:
1) Received the owner's email to cancel the project, due to covid, labor, and material shortage, with the baby coming.
2) Walk-through meeting and kitchen showroom meeting canceled

To sum up, since the project officially started on April 14 to the day we received the cancellation notice on May 12 (total of 4 weeks), we have: drawing set to apply for the permit and towards the final construction set, kitchen renderings, and shop drawings, Appliances Schedule, Plumbing Schedule, and Hardware Schedule; booked in-person meeting for walk-through that didn't happen.

We understand the pressure to manage the stress of a major renovation under a lockdown during the pandemics, and to expect a baby at the same. Therefore, there was no previous communication about the dissatisfaction with the services we provide or any potential misunderstanding of the renovation or construction process.
