Horrible Service

I called Knowledge Hav & Refrigeration on Jan 1/2024 when we woke up to minus temps and no heat in our house. On the phone they said the call out to diagnose would be $225.00 and it should take about an hour to diagnose the issue. I agreed to the price and they sent a tech and a helper out to diagnosis our furnace. The tech and his helper ended up being here for 3.5 hour trying to diagnosis the issues. The tech spent a huge majority of the time on the phone calling Lennox the maker of our furnace and other techs and waiting for them to return calls to him because he didnt know what he was doing. He finally diagnosed the furnace, he said we need 3 parts and that he will get back to me with a quote for the parts. They ended up charging me $567.00 when I question it the tech said the $225.00 was only for the first hour, I told him I shouldnt be paying for all these house that he was sitting on the phone and waiting for people to call him back. I was already not happy because it was not what was agreed upon on the phone, I paid it anyway because we need heat. On Jan 15,2024, he gave us a quote of $1280.52 for parts plus installation and was not able to tell me how long it would take to install. At this point we have been without heat for 3 days and it was freezing inside our house, we were concerned about our pipes freezing so we agreed to the quote. 2 days days go by and no word from them on when the parts will be installed. I called a few times and it says the voice mail for this number is not initiated. I was finally about to get through and they said maybe tomorrow, I called again two day later and was told the same thing again. At no point did they contacts me to let me know what is going on with my parts and when my family will have heat. It is freezing outside/inside and snowing at this point. By January 23,2024 I have had enough and called Gandy to have them come out and diagnose and confirmed the price they quoted was 189.00 plus tax no matter how long it took to diagnose, they said yes so I agreed for them to come out. Luckily, they were able to come right away. The tech was here for one hour and diagnosed the furnace. He explained we needed a new Draft inducer assemble and quoted me immediately for the part and installation of $1670.70. At this point I pulled out the quote from Knowledge showing him they said it was 3 completely different parts. He was shock and said good thing you didnt replace them because that is not the issues and then processed to show the parts, they quoted all worked. I called Knowledge Hav and complained to the owner of the company that the tech did not know what he was going, diagnosed all the wrong parts and that I wanted a refund immediately. He said he cant do the because the tech was here for 3.5 hours and deserves to be paid. I said deserves to be paid for what he diagnosed all the wrong parts and if I had gone ahead with his company, I was still have no heat. I explained to him everything the Gandy tech explained and showed me. I said that I expected a call back by the end of the day after he had time to talk to his tech and fix the situation. He then offered me a free furnace cleaning; I told him no way was anyone from his company touching my furnace again. To date still no response from the owner

Fridge repair

One of our commercial fridges broke and we had someone from a different company look at it. After 1.5 months with no help from them, I contacted your company. They scheduled an appointment with us for right away and showed up within the window we were given. The technicians were very informative and transparent with cost and the total came to very close to the quote. The fridge was fixed on site.

Excellent Service

I needed help to complete a home installation of a mini-split air conditioner, and was hoping to get it done on short notice with extremely hot weather being forecasted. I spoke with 5 other companies before talking to K.H.R.L. They were either booked ahead till mid-summer or unwilling to even take on the job. The technicians from Knowledge HVAC & Refrigeration were very personable and professional. They did a very thorough job pressure testing, evacuating, and topping up my the refrigerant lines in my unit, as well as providing lots of good advice. Their service was a great value, and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

HVAC issue

If your machine is in need of parts and it is over 20 years old. Save your money and invest in new machine. Replacement parts are scarse for a certain brand.
Why can't technician look at different manufacturers whom produces the same parts and usage????

This is the problem with tradesmen. They don't think outside the box. I had to do my 'own research' and show them the parts from Amazon which is the technician said it's not the right one. Not even a hint which one.

Giving up without actually finding a fix. Easy money huh?No help at all. Pure frustration.

Company Response

Hello and thanks for your feedback. Let us first apologize for the misunderstanding. We have done some investigation into your complaint and have spoken to the technician for better clarification on what had taken place.

In the note on our system that was sent to you, the tech had explained that the supplier no longer has the part for that equipment and that the part was obsolete due to the age of the unit. It further states that you had sent the tech a link to amazon showing similar parts, which he had explained to you that those parts are for residential furnaces and not for rooftop units.

By this time you had told the tech you had gone ahead and hired another contractor. It was noted a few days later you had contact the tech saying that you did not hire anyone and that you wanted us to fix the problem which the tech had replied:

1. The part and wiring on your unit are different from those off amazon and that your unit needed to use the same part as the original.
2. He also stated that if we should take the part out we won’t be able to use any other switch other than what was designed for the unit.
3. Should in the event of anything happening, A SAFETY OFFICER will hold the company liable.
4. The tech can only work within the confine of the BC regulation and not anyone's opinion or suggestion.
5. Should there be a fire, no customer will take the responsibility to say, they had given the approval for the changes.

We understand your frustration and must apologize again, but there is not much we can do at this time. To further added, NO HVAC Contractors are allowed to install any parts or equipment here in BC Canada unless the parts or equipment went through the correct testing and has a CSA, UCL or other approved certification stamp.

Excellent service!

I had my hot water tank replaced and furnace serviced by Knowledge HVAC and I couldn’t be happier with both the service and experience. It was very easy to schedule the appointment, the techs were on time and very fast, clean and friendly. On top of that, it was 40+ degrees and in a very small space. Im very grateful food their time and work and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for fast, professional and cost effective services. I would give them 20 stars if I could!
