Removal and Disposal of Air Conditioning Unit
Modify Air was hired to remove an air conditioning unit (removal, disposal while addressing the freon leak safely) and they provided same day service. However, they did not seal up the outside hole that connected the compressor to the inside unit. Two years later I discovered that the outside hole was not sealed because a pest entered into the house. This negligence has resulted in over $1000 in damages to my house. First, they claimed that they would have sealed the hole as a matter of policy but they must have been instructed not to seal the hole. No one told Modify to not seal the hole. Now, they are claiming that it was task assignment to address a freon leak safely. Modify Air
requested more money to have the air conditioner removed and disposed. I agreed to their additional costs in order have it professionally removed and I paid in full. All instructions were given by me in an email. I did not give any instructions to not seal the exterior hole and I was never asked about it. The plasterer sealed the interior hole in the drywall - that is all and did not give any instructions to not seal the exterior hole. Modify Air keeps blaming the plasterer. The plasterer has confirmed that he did not advise Modify Air to not seal the hole and even if he did, why would they listen to him. Modify Air also claims that I should have inspected it even though the exterior hole is 40 feet high on the side of the house. Modify Air did not provide any pictures that they sealed the exterior hole. Given that the exterior hole is located at over 40 feet high outside, it was impossible for me to inspect. I trusted them to my detriment. Modify Air should have provided pictures to show that they sealed the hole as I never could have inspected the hole. This is standard practice in the industry and I should not now have to rely on Google Maps for such information. Instead of focusing on a solution now, they are insisting that I pay for a service call. What kind of an HVAC contractor does not seal a hole? I would like a refund.

Dear LR,
Thank you for your feedback,
First of all I'm sadden to hear about the issues you have faced and the cost that has occurred for you. This must have been stressful for you and I'm sorry to hear that.
I would like to address your a couple of matters.
Modify Air was hired by your general contractor who accidentally knocked your Ductless A/C unit of the wall to safely remove the unit.
You have pretty much confirm that by mentioning that there was a couple of email passed between us. Your email (attached) only had a question about whether we will dispose the unit or not!
We recovered the gas as much as possible, disconnected and removed the unit.
Your contractor asked if it was possible for us to dispose the unit for him which in turn we agreed to do that for him.
We do not carry cement or bricks so usually we use silicone for caulking purposes, of course your contractor asked us to leave the hole as he would be able to sort it out better than we can.
I can only apologise on his behalf if that has not happened.
Please try to understand that if we had not done what we agreed with him surely he wouldn't have authorised the payment as he would have rightly claimed that we have not completed all the required tasks. But clearly this was not the case. Or perhaps he would have advised you that the HVAC contractors left the hole unsealed so you could have reached back to us back in 2018.
Unfortunately it seems like your contractor has let you down.
It is upsetting to see a consumer has suffered the way you have and once again I am sorry to hear about what has happened and I hope you won't have to experience anything like this again.
Kind Regards,
Modify Air
