I needed to have the flue pipe inspected because there was visible corrosion at the joints. A plumber that had been tending to the water heater a few weeks earlier noticed and alerted me to the corrosion when one of the joints broke as he was working. He fixed the joint, and recommended that I have the pipes and furnace checked.
After looking online at reviews (including Reddit), Furnace Family kept being recommended by people in Edmonton, so I checked out their website and the reviews they've received. I made a call and had an appointment set up.
The technician was very friendly and he was prompt in his arrival. He inspected the vent pipes and determined that, while there was some corrosion, they did not require a full replacement. He replaced one of the joints, and thoroughly tested for any leakage. He inspected the furnace and found nothing of concern. Given the age of the furnace, it was in decent working condition.
I was worried that the pipes would have to be completely replaced, or that - worse yet - the furnace might need replacement (it is 22 years old, after all). I was also worried that whoever came might try to upsell an unneeded service or scare me into replacing the furnace prematurely. This was not the case at all.
After my experience, I will likely use Family Furnace again, and will recommend them to others.
