Complete Bathroom Renovation – Totally Awesome!

We recently had our bathroom completely renovated by Home Reno Direct. All we can say is “Wow”, what a fantastic job! We would highly recommend them, definitely a 11 out of 10.

Our journey began with Amer Home Reno Direct’s Design Consultant, who did an on-site visit to our home to determine our needs, listen to our vision, take some measurements and pictures of the area. Within less than a week we were invited to their Mississauga show room to review Amer’s recommendations through drawings including a 3-D design showing our current bathroom and his future concept. Amer captured our vision to the tee and we booked a follow-up appointment to pick out the finishes (tiles, colour, faucets, etc.) with their Interior Designer.

Annabella, Home Reno Direct, Interior Designer was a big help. Thanks for your suggestions, especially the darker tile colour for our shower niche, additional pot light and the towel cabinet finish being the opposite colour/finish than the vanity. Love it!

Construction began 4 weeks later, and we were greeted by Tony, the On-Site Supervisor for the trades. Tony regularly followed up with his team, would help them when required and listened to our questions or concerns, always providing us with a solution. Thanks Tony for your many suggestions, especially suggesting that we centre the shower basin in the room and not tiling the edging. Well done! Peter (Project Manager), you have an incredible guy here.

Other team members that went over and above, Bobby, their driver who dropped off materials/fixtures for the job. Thanks for pointing out items that we should secure in our home because they were fragile (bathroom mirror, marble slabs, toilet seat, etc.) rather than leave them in our garage with the general trade materials.

Carlos, General Trade who took the time to put up vapour barriers throughout our house, tarps to walk on to keep the dust and dirt down to a minimum. This was especially needed for the demolition of the old bathroom, excavation of our sewer lines within the floor (basement bathroom) and the framing and drywalling. Thanks for taking the time and cleaning up the job site, even vacuuming at the end of each work day!

Hats off to Loui the Electrician, Ilie the Plumber the reset our sewer lines (thanks for working your weekend), Danny the Drywaller, Mario the painter, Hussein the Tiler (thanks for your suggestions on placement/angle and big thanks for working your first Sunday, much appreciated), Vince, Plumber #2 to set the toilet and faucets and finally Rob and Cory, General Trade or the detail guys as I called them. They came in to do paint touch ups, install trim/paint it and general clean up before handing the bathroom back to us. They did an terrific job, with a super eye for detail. Especially impressed with Rob who decided to replace my old bathroom door, rather than spend hours trying to salvage the old door. Definitely entrepreneur material.

And behind the scenes, Helen, in Finance who keeps our payments on track, lol, and uses a great App called Buildertrend so you can see what balance is outstanding at any given time.

Finally, when you think the journey is over Anita reaches out, the Production Coordinator to let us know that everything is under warranty and to reach out to her should any issues arise.

Sixteen highly skilled individuals, from start to finish. Thanks everyone!!

Kitchen refresh / reno

We were very pleased with our kitchen refresh/reno done through Home Reno Direct. We first met with the design consultant Amer at their Mississauga showroom. He was very pleasant and informative, and walked us through the reno process. The showroom is beautiful and has a large selection of quartz countertops, tile and glass back splash, porcelain flooring and fixtures/accessories. Amer came to our home to see the kitchen, took measurements and made notes, and made several suggestions. We met him again at their showroom, where we picked out colours and finishes for paint, countertop and back splash. The flooring was picked out separately at their floor supplier’s showroom. Amer put together a written quote for us, and Helen provided us with the payment schedule.

We were advised that our reno would take about 3-4 weeks, and it indeed took 4 weeks. All the crew that came to our home were fantastic. Very courteous, friendly and tried their best to be as tidy as you can be during a kitchen reno!
Kudos to our Project managers Sean and Lionel, demo crew Lauren and Kenny , Corey for drywall, framing & misc, delivery/pick up guy Bobby, electricians David and Lou, plumber Vince, painter Paul, Tom for taping/mudding, Chris and Jake for removal of cabinet doors/hardware, spray painting and re-assembly, and Rob for flooring, baseboards, additional painting, installation of foyer cupboard doors and all kinds of little touch-ups and fixes. Helen did the invoicing and kept us up to date.
Also thanks to the people we dealt with at their showroom: Amer, Annabella, Remon, Uzma, and Natasha.

As with any reno, there were a few minor issues and concerns but we were always able to work with Home Reno Direct to get them resolved to our satisfaction.

I would recommend that if you make any change that impacts cost after the original quote is done, make sure and get a revised written quote before moving forward.

Our kitchen now looks great, and we are thankful for all the hard work that was done by everyone.

Complete Bathroom renovation

As a retired teacher,I would give this group an A+ based on their effort, completing work on time, communication & quality of finish.
Amer, who we started with began with an initial design & providing a detailed computer graphic showing the before & after images which helped us view the final product & confirmed that HomeReno would be our choice to hire. Amer helped to pick out & co-odinate all the materials
( vanity, sink, hardware, tiles etc) that we needed and as a great convenience, everything was available from the showroom on site which is a great plus for any customer.
Lionel, the supervisor was regularly available on site to help co-odinate and offer knowledgeable suggestions along the way.Lauren ,worked hard on the demolition and another Lionel did very careful work with the plumbing. After the tiling was done, Rob ( an excellent craftsman) did the painting and the rest of the finishing touches.
I was very impressed with Rob's attentiveness and making sure that we were completely satisfied with his work.
Great job team!!!

Kitchen/Family Room Reno

Prior to approaching Home Reno, my husband and I made sure we did a fair amount of research on what to expect, who to hire and what to look for. This was brought on when we started thinking about doing Reno on our main floor. Since we moved to our house in 2000, we haven’t done any upgrade and felt it was time. We heard and read of bad experiences with Reno companies and we wanted to make sure we don’t end up in that situation. We came across Home Reno Direct through an ad in the mail. We did our research on the company, read reviews etc. and we were happy with the info we found. We were nervous at first but after meeting our design consultant Amer, we knew we were in good hands. Our experience over the last few months have been wonderful. Like with anything, there were a few bumps on the way but the end result was AMAZING!!! Home Reno exceeded our expectation. We never realized our kitchen and family room could look that good. It looked like one of the pics in a magazine. Amer’s design was absolutely on point. He captured what we had in mind and he came up with amazing ideas. We are extremely happy. We would like to thank the whole team of very talented tradespeople. Ali, Wyl, Dan, Paul, Barry, Tyler, Miro, Hussein, Rafael, Tony and of course our project manager Anita. If I missed anyone, I do apologize but thank them just the same. Thank you as well to Helen in the office for your support. I will definitely recommend this company to families and friends and won’t hesitate to hire them again for the 2nd phase of our Reno. Basement Reno

The whole point of us hiring a big company was to have a stress-free renovation with minimal management required on our part. Instead, we had 9 months of what can only be described as a nightmare. I would not recommend Home Reno to anyone. There were so many problems that it would take pages and pages to write about, so we will just highlight the most significant.

-Framers took 3 full days to do less than 20 linear feet of framing, that was done so poorly and not to specifications, that it had to be redone. They had access to the whole house and constantly found excuses to be upstairs (heating up food in our microwave, stomping through our living room). Thankfully they were not sent back after we complained to our project manager.

-Electrician poked a hole in the ceiling that went right through our brand new staircase. To date, that stair riser has not been replaced properly. The carpenter cut the riser a half inch too short, and the gap is visible when you are seated and looking at the staircase. -The plumber smoked in our house, and left a cigarette butt on the plastic vapor barrier, leaving a burn hole there. This is not only unprofessional but unsafe.

-The plumber put the plumbing at the wrong height and this caused a lot of stress and havoc when the cement truck arrived – we almost had to cancel this cement delivery – and instead ended up having to pour cement everywhere except for the bathroom – which then had to be done at a later date and causing the cement to settle differently in that area. Project managers rarely visited our home so of course there was no one there to realize the error of the plumbing – thankfully the cement-pouring guys noticed that there was a problem with the plumbing height.

-Later we found out that instead of venting the plumbing outside, the plumber had vented it into our crawl space, causing our finished basement to smell like sewage – we had plenty of stress and anxiety worrying about why. Thankfully, we figured out what the problem was and they were able to fix it.

-The framing was not done by the deadline agreed to, causing us to almost lose our deposit on the foam insulation company – and causing us to have to beg the insulators to come back, while the framers worked furiously, literally at the last minute to get it ready in time – they were pulled off another job last minute to quickly finish the framing on the day of insulation, when they knew about the scheduled insulation date for weeks.

-There would be no one showing up to work on our basement for weeks at a time with no excuse or reason why other than a vague response of “trades related issue.” -This shortage of tradespeople would conveniently happen the instant that an additional payment would be made.

-The side of our yard was constantly full of construction garbage and the personal garbage of the contractors (Tim Hortons cups, water bottles, etc.) At the start of the project, they dropped off a storage bin that was SO big that we couldn’t park our car in the driveway, or barely get past it to access the backyard or our recycling bins. We asked for a smaller bin, but it never came – for the remainder of the project. Instead, we had to bother our project manager every time the garbage was overwhelming and he would personally come and remove the garbage himself into his truck.

-The painter was subcontracted by one of the contractors, and showed up with his two kids for them to paint with him. One of them was a teenager; the other was no older than ten. -Our basement looks great, but this is only as a result of us continuously fighting and pushing for what should be standard operating procedure – someone showing up daily, or at least trying to, and someone doing quality work as per what the company promised. Every week it was a battle to get people to show up and every week, there was a quality issue that needed to be addressed. It got to the point where we had no choice but to withhold payment unless someone showed, and arrange for a daily payment situation to ensure that someone would actually show up. We even got to the point where we let some quality issues slide because we just wanted to not have to deal with them anymore.

-The owners need to seriously re-assess who they hire to do work for their company and ensure that they have enough qualified and trustworthy tradespeople on hand to do a job in a timely manner before they accept it. Our basement took 9 MONTHS to complete. This is 3x longer than they told us it would. This had nothing to do with the complexity of the project or the house being an old downtown house. It was simply because people didn’t show up to work on a regular basement.

-It seems like this company takes on more work than they have people for. They are eager to contact you when a deposit is due, but not eager to send someone your way to finish a job, and continuously break promises in that regard.

Company Response

Hello Ashot,
We have read the review from Ashot and Lisa and to be fair to both the Client and us we feel it necessary to reply to some of the statements made.
First and foremost we need to address the statement made that our workers are not qualified nor are they trustworthy. This is completely false. All of our workers have years of experience and those that require a licence are in fact licensed. This industry is known for having a high turnover rate of trades leaving for reasons such as poor scheduling, non-payment of work completed, poor leadership, etc. HomeReno is proud of the fact that we have zero turnover rate. In fact, we unfortunately have to turn down tradespeople that are recommended to us via word of mouth. We are also an equal opportunity company and very proud of this.
The comment made that we were scoping out the premises is absolutely false. We have never been accused of this by any project in the past or up to the time that this response is being written and we have successfully completed over 200 renovation projects in the past 3 years.
We feel bad that a diamond ring went missing, however, we were not the only tradespeople working at the time of this so called unfortunate incident. The Client had other trades working at the same time as we were there. They also had access upstairs. Our workers are well compensated and this accusation being directed at us is false and we will be asking the Client to have it removed voluntarily or through counsel.

The issue of the Client experiencing an odour on their premises was not because of the vent pipe that was in the crawl space, which was temporarily put that way until we were ready to continue the pipe to the exterior, but was in fact a ‘P’ trap connected to their laundry machine which was never used thus not having water in it to prevent the odour from occurring. We immediately took action after the Client contacted us to resolve this.
To address the garbage in the side yard. Initially we had a bin dropped off in their driveway, as we do with all our renovation jobs. This was a large project and demanded the proper size bin. When the Client called us to state that the need their driveway to park their 2 cars, an agreement was made to remove the bin and in agreement with the Client, we would use the side of the house to place garbage bags until such time, we would come by and remove them. Never did we agree to a smaller bin. One of their concerns was being able to park both cars in the driveway. This resulted in a major inconvenience to us, however, we did agree to it and added the extra time and cost to us to maintain the level of debris to an acceptable amount. Never did we feel bothered when the Client would call us to see if we could come earlier to remove the bags of garbage. We did this immediately and with good faith.

To say that we walked off with their drill is also a false statement that was never proven. All of our trades have their own tools and would never jeopardize their employment over a drill. As stated earlier, all our trades love working at HomeReno and they are all hard working and honest individuals. However, to keep the Client satisfied, we immediately replaced the drill with no negativity whatsoever.
Did this project take longer than the estimated 3 months? Yes it did. There were several factors involved that caused this project to run longer than anticipated.
Firstly, the scope of the project was much more complicated than realized upon the initial visit.
Secondly, we assigned a Project Manager, who came to us highly recommended, only to find out within 2 months that his qualifications were not at the level that this project required. He was immediately replaced by the Operations Manager, who immediately improved all areas of the project including communication, scheduling and planning. In addition, this is an old house located in the downtown district and to bring it up to code took a lot of work.

Corrective measures were taken by us and the relationship with our Operations Manager and the Client were always positive and productive. Our Operations Manager always responded to the Clients calls and moved the project forward to completion. It is unfortunate that the Client only felt compelled to write the negatives, which, as seen by this response are not 100% true in facts. Everyone had a right to their opinions, but when presenting them to the public, they should be more careful in what they state.
In closing. After reading the Clients review, the President of the company asked to meet with them in person to gain a better understanding of their response, however, the Client turned down his invitation and thus would not give him the opportunity to hear them out to gain a better perspective of their review.
Regards, Remon

Home Renovation - Kitchen / Powder Room / Flooring

We had heard lot of sad and bad experiences of people about home renovation but I think we really really had a very good day that we landed in Home Reno Direct office and met Amer. We were reluctant about the project cost but with one stroke of pen, Mr Remon ( owner ) made the project cost possible for us. All this while, Amer was superbly patient , he listened our requirements and gave us refined proposal.
All the involved in the project of our place, were thorough professionals. I need to name the people otherwise appreciation would not be complete.. Amer / Peter / Anita / Tim /Vince /Miro /Rob / Wyll /Painter Brothers / Helen and not to forget .....The Mr Ali.
Superb planning and scheduling of the work leads to timely completion of the project with Excellent Tradesmen-ship.

Now we are truly spoilt by the quality of work provided by Home Reno Direct guys and in future would not settle with less than their standards.
Whosoever visited our place till now , had great word of appreciation for the work performed by HRD team.
For us, Home Reno Direct standards are " Five Stars" and will keep on recommending Home Reno Direct as and when some one ask our opinion about home renovation. As a matter of fact, already recommended few of my friends.

God Bless to all of the HRD team . Keep on doing the good work and keep on making people feel happy.
Thank you very much.

Kitchen and Washroom Reno's

Home Reno Direct is a professional company that will meet and exceed all your expectations and standards. They are a friendly, professional, and customer oriented company that will help you design and customize the home of your dreams! What sold us on the project was their interior designer - Uzma. She was punctual, courteous, and knowledgeable in her field. She measured our home, took pictures, and listened to our home renovating ideas. She made suggestions of her own that we never considered, and utilized her ideas to improve the final design of our home project. We also like this company because they gave us a realistic cost of the project. They provided us with many estimates of the actual cost every time we added or subtracted materials or items. We also liked the 3D computer software design they used. It really helped us visualize the completed project. Once the project commenced, we met with the project manager who communicated with us every step of the way. She would communicate with us on a daily basis - sometimes throughout the day - via text, e-mail, phone, and in person. She organized a monthly schedule that showcased when work was going to be completed. Every trades-person was in our home and they were each very honest, punctual, friendly, and hardworking. The estimated project time was 2 and a half months and it was completed 1-2 weeks over time. We think 1-2 weeks over the estimated time frame is a realistic encounter when you are renovating many parts to the home. Once the work was completed, we did have a walk through and we were happy with the results. After a week or so living in the home we found some areas that needed to be corrected and the company responded by phone and e-mail immediately (even during the holidays), they came as soon as they could and corrected all of our listed deficiencies. This company is here to stay! They are an honest and trustworthy company. All of their workmanship and materials has warranties, and they will return to correct any and all deficiencies to your satisfaction. I would recommend this company to my family and friends and will definitely contact them again for additional renovations!

Two bathrooms + kitchen

Initially, our relationship with Home Reno Direct was chilly due to controllable delays on our project attributable to tradesmen allocation.

Once brought to their attention, Home Reno Direct took immediate and complete ownership of the issues, and have since employed best-practices to rectify and mitigate the scheduling delays.

Home Reno Direct’s owner personally reached out to express his apology and to define next-steps moving forward to keep within schedule.

As an aside, It should be noted that the tradespersons employed by Home Reno Direct have accomplished best-in-class workmanship. Punctual, professional and leave the job-site clean.

Our project is nearing completion, but to date we would entirely endorse Home Reno Direct for any renovation projects you may be considering. Responsible, professional and sensitive to any issues you bring up, it is our experience that you may “Renovate with Confidence”.

I will return after project completion and provide a full update. For any clarification you may reach us at Email: ajm321@hotmail.com<mailto:ajm321@hotmail.com>
