Canadian Roofing Systems

We knew we would need new shingles in a couple of years but ended up needing them sooner than expected. We have a second peak at the back of the house (south-facing) that creates a trough where water can collect and run down. The shingles there had worn out much faster than expected and the wood roof underneath was showing through. We called other companies who saw the area and didn't flag it as anything special, just needing new shingles. Those companies gave us prices that had us pleasantly surprised but we were concerned about that trough area.
John at CRS took one look and immediately detailed the special treatment that area would need in order stand up to the scorching sun and the wear and tear from the water collecting and running down that area. Essentially, treating it like a flat roof back there in order to handle the temperature, water, etc. that caused the damage we were now dealing with. His quote was quite a bit higher but we came away from meeting John with utter confidence in what needed to be done. He took the time to answer all of our questions (we can be a little high-maintenance and detailed) and was extremely forthright and easy to deal with.
Our roof took 2 days to do. The crew was polite, they checked in frequently to ensure we didn't have any questions or concerns, and there wasn't a leaf out of place in our landscaping when they left. We did a quick check of the yard to gather up anything left behind and there was nothing for us to do! We only found one roofing nail and that was because it fell behind the BBQ. They left everything below the roofline exactly as it was when they got here. (Of course, everything above the roofline was left looking BETTER than before!)
There is a reason this company has been able to operate in a small town for over 50 years: they know their job and they do it well.

The company gave quote , brought samples. Came in and did the work in no time. The left no mess, damaged nothing, which was amazing because of the landscaping everywhere. I didn’t find nails all over the place. And yes I would totally recommend them!!

The time had come to re-shingle our home in Whitby and I researched different companies and shingle manufacturers. We decided on GAF shingles and made the trek to Port Perry to meet with John who is the owner of Canadian Roofing Systems. Right off the bat John's knowledge of the trade and ability to answer any and all questions was very reassuring.

A team of 7 roofers and one clean-up person arrived at our home around 7:30 a.m. and left around 6:00 p.m. after tacking our fairly substantial roof. Adam and his team were very careful in not damaging anything and there was not a single nail or shingle bit left on the lawn including behind the backyard shed which was also re-shingled.

We would definitely recommend Canadian Roofing Systems to anyone who is looking for a high quality shingle and top-notch installation.

John and Shaun run a great company! Right from the estimate to the clean up, this job was done top notch. I am pretty picky about contractors and these guys exceeded on everything. If you need a roof in the Durham area, you need these guys!

A lesson in meeting the company rather than just reviews: John has impeccable manners and patience, something which I hope Shaun (his son) will also continue for many more years . Team was professional, respectful and cleaned up thoroughly. Our job was done today and we are happy with the results. They have been in business for some time and their equipment proves they have a system in place, which is why I contacted them as I prefer to do things properly and then not have to worry about them. If you want the job done right first time then I think they are a good choice.

I can't say how much I appreciate John and Shaun and their team. I got 3 quotes and John's quote was the most thorough including how many nails they use per shingle. I have a big roof. John took time to answer all my questions before, during and after the project. I used Owens Corning Shingles. They did everything that was specified in the manufacturers website--all the different layers beside the shingles were put in. What I appreciate most is that they have a team of 5. They used safety equipment while they were on my roof. They worked on my roof one section at a time instead of taking all the old shingles off at once. My roof remained water tight throughout the whole process. It took them two and a half day to finish. Also there were a few pieces of metal valley that was scratched when it was transported to our house. They took the time to exchange them with his supplier. To be honest, I would never have noticed if they put it on. Shaun told me that he would not put the defective product on his own roof and therefore, he would not put it on mine. They added extra vents so that my house would be up to code.
Yes, I did have to wait in line for my job to be done, but it was well worth the wait. (Roofing is weather dependent. They can't control weather.) I just witnessed another roofing job done around my neighbourhood. The roof is probably bigger than mine and it was all done in one day with no underlay used or shingle caps for the ridges.
I know that my roof is very well done and that really gives me the peace of mind that my house is well protected.

John (the owner) sounded very professional and he probably was. During the project he was very hard to reach, not returning my calls. It was practically impossible to get an answers. Looked like he was carrying few other projects at the same time. Whole project was 2 weeks later then promised. Still have some questions to ask, but no one returns the calls.
