Complete Home Renovation

Dale and his crew completed a complete renovation of my home. The home was over 100 years old and to complicate issues I was transferred to Paris just as the project commenced. Like all renovations schedule and costs changed as issues or opportunities arose but I was satisfied with the consultation and communication on each change. In the end the choices and the finishes were at or above expectation. I would recommend Dale and his team as competent, consultative and honest contractors.

Complete basement and other home renovations

Two years ago I purchased a home near Avenue and Chaplin that had been constructed in the 1940's and had a proper addition put on in the 1980's. The basement had never been done, it had knob and tube, and it required some immediate upgrades to even qualify for home insurance. Dale took on this project as general contractor, and in the end I am very happy with the outcome. He does things by the book, got architectural drawings done, proper permits and inspections. At the end I have a complete paper trail I was able to show the bank appraiser who replied, "you have a fully legal basement apartment. That is going to add to the property value." And it did. With the nice job they did I was able to attract an excellent renter who recently signed a new contract to rent for the second year. After a year of rental use, the basement is holding up very nicely. He used special sound proofing drywall and insulation so the renter doesn't hear my 3-year old daughter running on the main floor and I hear very little from downstairs. The bathroom is also holding up very well. In fact, that basement he did is now the nicest part of the house.

I was an extremely picky client, quite demanding, and he was very accommodating to my many requests. Even today I still use him when little things need doing, and he usually calls me back within an hour or so when I call. I understand when you do a large project not everything is going to go perfectly, but in the end Dale goes out of his way to stand behind his work, and that is worth gold to me.

Complete Disappointment

This company was highly recommended to me by a very reputable contractor but the only point on which this company met or exceeded expectations was the speed with which they arrived to pick up the deposit for constructing the roofline and columns for my front porch. Feel free to give Dale and his crew a call if you have an appreciation for every negative cliche associated with contractors, the complaints about how the structure recommended by the architect was 'overkill' and the beam was going to be 'so much more work' and the scattering of my personal information when someone left his clipboard on the roof and papers were strewn about the neighbourhood. Feeble excuses (so and so starts late because he doesn't like rush hour traffic and only got an hour in before the rain started, then 3 days later when he graced you with his presence on a sunny day he had left early for a family gathering, it's the suppliers fault that the columns didn't arrive - for weeks, I have other jobs that are more of a priority). A job that should have taken 2 weeks tops took 2 months and the neighbours who observed their work ethic likened their techniques to the 3 Stooges because they appeared to do nothing but consult, scratch their heads, and proceed slowly whenever they were onsite. When 'professionals' like roofers needed to be coordinated again, they would come in the evening hours in contradiction of the City bylaws (nothing after 7 pm). 'Sure, they can work til 11, they bring their lights'... Less than 6 months later the paint has discoloured on the underside of the roof and the eavestroughs are dangling off and their less than 6 months old (where are you putting the eavestroughs, oh, that's a good question) and I can't get them back here to fix them despite emails over the last two weeks.
