Purchase and Install Hardwood Flooring
Advertised on 680 NEWS they having a BIG SALE. We went there, good selection of wood flooring, laminate, and engineered flooring. Salesman approachable and seemingly knowledgeable. Of course, we got bit with the "big sale" bug, and ordered flooring and installation. Took our deposit, sent us on our way. We were contacted by the "measuring" guy, he came to the home, measured the job, found that there was an over estimate of the flooring and provided a 2 box discount, but circumvented same with "recommended add ons". I agreed to "add-ons" as I was inexpereineced and unaware, and felt this was the professional so surely they knew what they were doing. Recommended screw-down of sub flooring (house is only 5 years old) to prevent "squeaking" and to complete the "guarantee" of their servises. So much for my discount, the "screw down" was more than the discount so the actual end price went up. Then, additional add ons included trasnitions (really, wouldnt transitions be recommended at purchase, and really - why did the price of transitions change from $30 at the time of Purchase to $160 at the time of final invoice - not sure. My husband ripped up the carpet and noted that the subfloor was screwed down every 4 inches, so he cancelled the "screw down" add on and questioned the trasnition pricing. I spoke tot he sales man and he gave me a stoy "its like when you purchase a stove, the stove mught cost $600 but the repair costs $500" I'm not sure wha tthe purchase of a stove and the repair cost of a stove has to do with my flooring purchase and installation - but whatever, that was his explanation and bottom line, he wouldnt be flexible on the prciing. He also told me (the salesman named Vadet) that all the installers worked for them, they were professionals, not contractors. So, the day of install comes, two very nice, and very polite gentleman show up at my home and start working. They dud a FANTASTIC job and cleaned up after themselves. I cannot say enough good things about the installers, and I would use them again in a heart beat, I gues this wont be a problem either since the installers gave me their cards, yep - you got it - they DO NOT work for the company, they are independents. just another misleading statement from Hardwood Giant.
We were told during the sale transaction, and assured in subsequent conversations that this extraordinary expensive transitions would be stained to match the flooring we had purchased. Another misleading statement. The transitions were unfurnished, and no stain provided, we had to run out to hone depot to get the stain matched and purchased (at our expense of course - and time), and the installers stained the transitions. The installers did a great job matching the transitions, but I was admonished by the fact once again we were mislead and once again we were added costs.
The invoice, ridiculous, nickles, dimes cents, I mean several of the line items were "bundled" into one price, but not completely discounted, so there were line items for $0.30, $0.60, I brought this up - you would think it would be fixed - NOPE, I mean its only 90 cents plus HST - but again - misleading and unprofessional.
The Incorrect invoice was provided to the installers, and they were tasked with picking up the final payment, I had to produce a new invoice to justify the actual amount owing, again, unprofessional.
Our new floor looks wonderful, the installers were great, I would not purchase from Hardwood Giant again. They are unprofessional and very misleading.
The sale price of the hardwood was $3.99 per square foot, and I was quoted 1.99 per square foot of installation. But then they "biundled the price on the invoice to be $5.99 per sq. ft installation included. I know its again a small amount, however, by bundling this price I again was charged more, 1 cent more per square foot, and I was charged installation for the 10% overage of hardwood (mandatory purchase requirement to buy an additional 10%) because as a bundled price I now paid 10% more for installation of wood that was never installed - go figure!!! For sure this Hardwood Giant is a company that provides misleading pricing and misleading comments pre and post sale. The job ended up costing me more than I bargained for by several hundred dollars due to their unfair and non-disclosed "bundled pricing" after sale.
