We received several quotes for our roof before choosing Gitano Roofing based on their amazing reviews. Lewis was the person we spoke to. They called ahead to drop off material to begin July 1, 2015. Even though it was a holiday, it was a wet June and they were very behind schedule they said. When they arrived July 1, they knocked on our door to ask us where they can buy plywood on a holiday. They could not start because nothing was open to purchase the needed plywood. They should have realized that it was a National holiday and to have come prepared. This caused them to have to start the job the following day and in my opinion, rush the job due to the delay.
The roofers were still installing the roof into the night. I am aware of the exact time because I had a young baby who needed to go to bed hours before it was done and the hammering was keeping that from happening. It was 9pm when the cleanup started. This meant that it was dark out when the cleanup was happening. And due to this, they should have returned the following day to clean up in daylight. I had to do the cleanup of nails, however, finding without exaggeration, hundreds of nails all over my property. There was even a spot in the middle of the lawn where a box of new nails must have tipped over and they were piled high enough to see at a distance.
We needed to have the attic re-insulated so we had a contractor in the space and he found daylight coming in from the roof. Upon further investigation, they left some plywood that should have been changed; they bent tresses and left gaps in the roof. Due to the delay, they rushed the job and ultimately did a sub-par job.
We got a great deal of rain in late August, early September. And this caused our brand new roof to leak. We were being proactive to change the roof and in the end, a new roof gave us water damage on the ceilings in the house in 3 separate spots. We had to hound Lewis to get back to us about this and in the end he contracted the repairs out to a man named Slavik. He came on 3 separate occasions to fix the roof. He would go on the roof and we would hear hammering. Then the next rain, more leaking. In the end, the whole front quarter of the roof needed to be redone. This occurred in October 2015.
No one ever came to fix the damaged caused inside the house, even though this was promised to us. We found that we had to constantly call them. No one ever called us to follow up or to see if there was anything they could do. When we would talk to the woman on the phone we would be told one thing. When we would email Lewis, we would be told something different. More frustrating than having a new roof leak was having to constantly hound them to fix it.
I have no idea why there are so many 10 star reviews here. I was not even going to bother reviewing them but I am still staring at the water damage on my ceiling that I have not had the time to fix and I just needed to finally post this.
I would not recommend them.
