Basement Work

In the summer of 2014 I had my basement waterproofed from the inside which required new insulation, wiring, flooring, dry wall. Rob provided a very competitive quote and stuck by it throughout the course of the work. He was great to work with and I look forward to do more work with him in the future.

Ceiling removal and restoration

Pros: excellent quality
Cons: extremely low professionalism and emotional maturity, very slow execution of the job

I hired this company to remove a section of ceiling, then restore the ceiling and then paint it. The size of the ceiling was about 25 feet by 3 feet. It took them about six weeks to complete this job.

The ceiling removal went well as can be expected, but they left the old drywall in my place and continually promised to remove it. They never did and forced me to dispose of it in the end.

Next Rob and an assistant came by to restore the ceiling. As they were working, Rob became increasingly more and more angry. I asked him what was bothering him and he said the job was bigger than expected. He never had come to my place before that point so he could not have known how big the job was except by my rough description on the phone. As he became more angry, he started taking it out on my ceiling by continually drilling many holes in it. Eventually he had to take a “time-out” and go for a walk to calm himself down.

Next, Rob sent Justin to work on my place - Justin had just been hired but Rob had never seen any of his work. Every day Justin was late by 2-4 hours, even after I called him and he would say “be there in 15 minutes” and two hours later he would show up. Justin did a terrible job on the ceiling, so Rob fired him and re-did everything.

This is Rob’s saving grace - he does care about quality and the final work was very good and you would never know any work was done on the ceiling.

In Rob’s communication he was unable to take responsibility for his actions. He always had someone to blame - it could be one of his employees, it could be circumstances, and sometimes it was me. For example, he said the job took a long time because of my “crazy schedule”. Except that I was working from home and available all day and all night pretty much every day. The only way his comments make sense is to realize that Rob simply can not take responsibility for his actions and always has someone to blame.

Because he was so volatile I made sure to stick with the facts in my communications with him. Even so he let loose a continual stream of drama such as when he often assumed that I was disappointed in something and made excuses for things I didn’t care about. The only thing that mattered to me was getting the job done, and that’s what I continually focused on in our communication.

I would never work with this company again due to the lack of professionalism in behaviour and communication, even though the quality was good.

Paul, I don't believe you are writing this on the right account, as per every other review on my account specifically says, that I came out their project to look at it, so in no way would I take on a project without looking at it. I'd also like to add that I am always professional and curtious to whichever job or quote that I do look at, and to every client I meet, you can contact any one of these customers on homestars and inquire, I will admit and I'm sure every company has gone thru their fair share of employees whom have advised their employers that they are skilled at something for an x amount of years to find out that that is not the case and adjustments have to be made, also, I have never left any job go for 6 weeks unless advised by a homeowner that they are waiting on something to be done, or work permits are still outstanding. I find it very odd that over 3 years of great reviews I would suddenly read a review such as this. I have had jobs where a client maybe unhappy about something, rather it be framing, drywalling, taping or what not, and if so I do my best to correct the problem so that way my client is 100 percent satisfied at the end of each job, and that everything looks exactly the way that the client had hoped for. I do however apologize if this happened to you.. and if you would like to contact me in regards to the insulting review, in which again I have not had at all on my account for the duration I've been with homestars there obviously been an error and I'll be happy to discuss this with you, as you say the work is great and what not and the ceiling did work out great, so obviously the contractor came back to fix the error in which "justin" you said had not done such a nice job..we always make sure that the job is done and done well. You could have had your job left that way in which I'm sure would of made you less happy. So glad you had the contractor come back to fix his errors, some may not be so lucky. Thanks paul.

Kitchen Reno

I had Rob work on my basement 2 summers ago and was so impressed with his work that I asked him to come back and work with us on our Kitchen reno. We were opening up our kitchen so we were taking down to supporting walls and replacing with a support beam. His work once again was fantastic. He was able to work to our budget and was able to stay within our budget given there were a few surprises as there always are with older houses. He also referred Ian from McAllister Electric and he and his crew were also amazing. Steve, his plumber was also very good, neat and tidy. Rob also was able to recommend Oscar and Daniel for our floor tiling and back splash. They were also very good. I would definitely recommend each and every one of them and have already.

I would recommend Rob and will use him again when we take on our next project. He works with you to figure out the best solution for problems that arise, or make recommendation when you just don't know what to do. He is always very professional.

Thanks again Rob...our kitchen looks amazing!!

Drywall Repairs

Rob's renos was awesome! We are doing some heavy renos and had drywall repairs that needed to be done, and done quickly, before my next set of trades came to do work. I called Rob and he quickly came down to look at the job, gave me a very reasonable quote and communication was top notch from beginning to end. Alex, who did all the work, was very professional, always worked clean, was prompt and did a bang up job, in some difficult areas of the home. We will be calling Rob next year to redo our ensuite and second floor bathroom for sure. Highly recommend his services! Thanks again for working with us and allowing us to make our tight timeline!

Ceiling renovation

Our 80 year old house had acquired sprayed-on stucco "popcorn" ceilings in the master bedroom and living room before we bought it. We wanted the living room ceiling replaced with drywall, while preserving the existing original plaster crown moulding, and to include the installation of pot lights. The bedroom ceiling needed smooth drywall installed and a cracked plaster wall required repair. We contacted Rob, and he came to the house that evening to review the scope of the project. He sent his quote the next morning and he was able to schedule a start date within days.
His work crews were very skilful. They confined the dust resulting from demolition and drywall sanding very well within the two rooms. Rob even sent a cleaning woman after demolition, and again when the job was finished to be sure the project areas were free of dust. Rob was easily reachable by phone or email throughout the project to answer our questions and keep us updated, and he visited the job site daily There were a couple of unexpected problems, but they were easily corrected by Rob and his crew at minimal additional cost. The finished work was of excellent quality.
We have already recommended Rob's Reno's Inc. to a couple of our neighbours.

Thank you for your kind review, I apologize for the delayed response, but your job was rather quite tricky to do, and to blend the ceiling in with your crown molding was a bit challenging, but if it wasn't than the job wouldn't of been as fun to do. I am very glad you are happy with everything, and if you need anything in the future please don't hesitate to call. Thanks again! Much appreciated

Interior Renos

We are very happy with the work that Rob and his team did for us. We first worked with Rob to repair water damage in our house caused by water leakage from ice damming. Rob's Renos installed new insulation, new drywall for walls and ceilings, and reinstalled baseboards and other mouldings throughout a large part of our house. He had to contend with some tricky areas including sloped ceilings, and tight corners in a two-story high foyer. All of the work was completed so well that no one, including our painter could tell where the damage had been. Rob was also very patient with problems that arose such as discovering at the end of the job that one piece of baseboard was missing (thrown out by the demolition team sent by insurance). He made a special trip out to the lumber yard to find a good match and an extra trip to our house to install it.
We were so impressed with the caliber of the work that we asked Rob and his wonderful taper, Luis, to refinish our basement walls. They had not been properly taped and sanded and were looking quite bad with lots of bubbled up tape everywhere. We also wanted to remove an ugly half-door that led to our utility room and install a full-size door. Luis worked tirelessly to get the basement in good shape. It turned into a bigger job than expected, but he was very conscientious about showing us the work that needed to be done and getting our approval. The door turned out to be a less than straightforward job, due to our wonky framing. But Rob would not rest until it was successfully installed. It required a number of modifications and extra trips, but in the end it is beautiful: looks and works great.
A big thank you to you Rob and your wonderful team for getting our house looking better than ever.

Thank you very much for your review and I apologize for the late response! I'm glad we were able to help you, for I believe when I first met you, you were rather thinking of selling the house or just bulldozing the house and starting from scratch, so I hope that we have made your home to a point that you are happy living in your home and don't want to sell anymore! Thanks for everything your hospitality has been great! And your sense of humor was amazing! Thanks again for the review and hope all is well

Interior House Renovation

A friend has recommended Rob's Renos for the full gut and reno we were starting on our "vintage" 1950s bungalow. His team was very helpful, polite and CLEAN. The took care of all the demo, structural changes, framing, insulation, drywall, millwork and painting... as well as a my many little add ons! All of the work was done with the utmost quality, no corners were cut. I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for an interior contractor. Great Job!!!

thank you so much for your kind review!!, i am very happy that your inspections passed with the structural beams we put in for you, your house turned out beautiful, that was a very well layed out blue print that you had made. I really like the layout of it, and it turned out fantastic the end result looks amazing i must say, no matter how many jobs i do, i can never get over how nice everything looks at the end, and wish my house looked like every renovation i have done, however like they say a shoe maker doesnt have his own shoes. so again carol thank you so much for everything i wish you luck in ottawa, its a shame after all that work, your not able to enjoy the much hard work you put in to make your house that much more enjoyable. hope you find a house in ottawa that is the same as what you have now if not better. Thanks again carol

Take down and replace kitchen ceiling due to water damage

We called Rob through Homestars and he actually answered the call without us having to leave a message. He was friendly, a wonderful sense of humour and most of all professional. He came by that evening and gave us a quote that was both reasonable and actually cheaper then 2 other quotes.
He started the work when he said he would and went above and beyond what was asked of him. Should we have any other work to be done, I would not hesitate to call him and would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone we come in contact with who is looking for renovations to be done.
Thank you,
Howie

Repaired and drywalled ceilings

We contacted Rob to re-drywall a ceiling in our basement washroom and to give an opinion on some cracks in our ceiling in our living room. We contacted a few other companies at the same time (all highly rated on HomeStars), most of whom did not respond or responded a week later.

Rob replied immediately. He made arrangements to come provide a quote within a couple of days. His price was very competitive compared to others we had received earlier before discovering HomeStars.

Rob and his team ended up opening up our living room ceiling to assess the issue. They came up with an innovative and affordable solution. I was impressed throughout the project with the efforts that Rob and his team made to keep the mess contained (they sealed the area off by hanging plastic and covering the floors). Rob also sent a cleaner in twice, which was incredibly generous and appreciated. Rob was in constant contact throughout the work and always responded immediately to questions.

In the end we got a new ceiling in the basement washroom, a resolved issue and repaired ceiling in our living room, and both look great - and again, for a very competitive price.

I will not hesitate to recommend Rob to friends and family and will definitely use him for any projects that come up in the future.

Thank you so much for your review david, and for the trust in doing this work while you weren't home, leaving us with the code to your door and trusting your contractor goes a long way in how the work will turn out in the end, it was easy to get in and out of, and was a bit of a challenge to figure out how things would work, but in the end it turned out great, and as long as you are happy than I have done my job right. So thank you again.

Basement Drywall & Framing, Drycore Floor Panels Installation

Rob’s Renos Inc. did an amazing job with the renovations in our basement! Rob provided a fair quote and completed the work within the time requested. He was very accommodating and responded to any calls/emails right away. His team worked in our basement to install drywall, framing and drycore floor panels. They arrived on time and went straight to work. The team was very professional, honest and pleasant people to work with. I was impressed by all the completed projects without a problem. I am very pleased with the completed work and would contact Rob for future renovation projects. Thanks Rob!

Thanks so much for your review pam, it was a pleasure working in your studio. You have been more than accommodating with parking and in knowing exactly what you wanted to have done, as well with all material storage. It was a challenging job with the floor, but with every job there will be some sort of challenge otherwise it wouldn't be fun. Thank you so much for everything pam, and look forward in working with you in the future
