Referrals are so important these days because you never know who you can trust in making big money decisions. When your mom says “ees a nisa boy” it may not be what you had in mind for a referral, but you take it for what it’s worth. This review is being written for work done over several months at not only my mother’s place, but 2 other friends (my roof turns out to still be okay), so a consolidation of 3 assessments. I waited to write this because I wanted to give an accurate account from all parties and the work done over this time, which seems only fair when you are assessing someone’s career.
Firstly, let me you that mama was correct and Tony “ees a nisa boy” indeed. If you can’t have Mike Holmes working on your house, you would be happy about him sending Tony from Arrow Roofing. This guy is a professional, an artisan of his trade and every sense of the word pride comes out with this guy. No nonsense, do not cut corners stuff, this guy wants to keep you dry and provide a maintenance free, long lasting roof and he delivered on all 3 projects. He takes the time to do little things that matter and if you didn’t educate yourself about, you would consider petty, but knowing, this guy is a standout. Protected the side of house for when roof was being stripped, hand nailed to the rafters so that he would know the nails caught wood and not just punched through by an air gun, ice shield in the valleys where rain and snow run the most, suggested a diff ventilation system for my mom’s older home to promote better air circulation, removes old stuff (vents etc.) to bring roof protection under and not just around or “up to”, the list is endless.
He took the time to explain what was needed, what you could do without to save money because it didn’t benefit and why things needed to be done a certain way in order to maximise the value of the roof as not only a first layer of protection on our highest material investment, but also to have a longer lasting roof. He installs shingles as per manufacturer specs to not void the warranty (most people don’t know if shingles not installed correctly, the warranty is void, it’s not just a warranty on the material).
He is a spectacular craftsman and a professional with high quality work worth every penny.
Now all of this sounds like pretty standard stuff, but this is where I was really impressed and it’s a story my friend told me after Tony was working on his roof. In a general discussion they were talking about work and business and the question about how things on the roof are easier to cut corners because most people won’t scale a 30 foot ladder to validate what’s being done. Tony replies (paraphrase) “because it’s on your roof and you can’t easily see what’s going on, doesn’t mean it’s a licence to be dishonest. We have an agreement and my name is associate to it, so it’s important to deliver and give you every bit that you are owed to get and pay for. It’s how I was taught and what I believe in. If I see something that isn’t being done right, I will rip it off and do it again until I can make it better and how it’s supposed to be”. Now I don’t know about you, and sure someone can say that it’s all just words, but you can tell the way someone works, the way they talk those words, the way they watch every bit of detail, that this is a passionate guy who is dedicated to excellence and standards. This is the type of guy I want working on important things at my place. You end up sharing a beer with the guy afterwards and realising even more what a great down to earth person he really is and that just seals the deal that your decision to hire them was the right one. It’s great to support the small independent, honest, humble guys who takes pride in their craftsmanship. I can’t say enough about this guy and Arrow Roofing, they’re really stellar and I highly recommend them.
