Canadian Best Roofing

We hired CBR after calling them to replace a few loose shingles and discovering that our previous roofer had not done a proper job. They removed our old shingles and put plywood on our entire roof before they reshingled. The quality of their work was very good and they kept a fairly neat work area. We felt that they were honest and presented options regarding various roofing products. We would not have a problem recommending them.

This estimated that the roof will be around 2,600. He asked for $500 deposite. On the day he came to work, they said the estimation is wrong. He has to be around 4,000. Then I wanted to not proceed with the work. I asked for deposite back. Then he offered to give me 15% off. It was in September 2008. Then I agreed to proceed work. When they tear the roof down, I was told that we need to change the wood as well. The total comes out as almost $6000. During the whole process, the owner of the company is rude and always ask for money. Since I need an invoice, extra GST was added. When they completed the work, they never give us invoice. We called many times, and was told they will mail to us. They never did. Several times, he said the account is not that and we have to ask the accountant. up to day, we never got our invoice. The worst part is every time when it rains, the water comes through chimney and goes down to our basement like flood. The guy comes two times to fix but it still leaks.

Dec. 2. 2009, I was quoted $4,080.00 in cash, I told him I needed an invoice for the home renovation tax credit. $204.00 in GST was added. I paid $1,000.00 in cash deposit as requested. Quote included the replacement of the flashings on all 3 skylights which, was not done. Also, $600.00 extra for tarpaper if the plywood of the roof is not good. I told him that the house is only 17 years old with 25 year shingles and does not need tarpaper. Dec. 4. 2009, the shingles were removed and was told the tarpaper is needed. I went up on the roof and found the plywood to be good. All of a sudden the 15 year labour warranty was only good with the tarpaper installed. I agreed to a price of $500.00 extra for the tarpaper installed. Dec. 5. 2009, I went into the attic and found 1 exhaust fan not to be connected and helped fixing it. Dec. 6. 2009, I inspected the roof and found no skylight flashings replaced and that one light coloured brick wall of the house has a lot of tar marks from dumping the old shingles off the roof. Only the neighbours house was protected. The job was finished on Dec. 5. 2009 in the evening and the balance was requested in cash again. I gave him a cheque of $3,784.00 and was promised an invoice by internet. As of today I still don't have an invoice despite several calls and e-mail requests. No phone calls nor e-mails are being answered now.
