Right Choice Roofing and Repair

Came home on a Friday after work to discover that our neighbourhood raccoons has had their way with a spot on the front of our roof. Hoping to have a restful and relaxing Friday night, I instead went ahead looking for a roofer. Thing is, my wife and I are relatively newish home owners and I don't know a thing about roofing. I "googled" roofing repair in Toronto, after calling a few places (who were not very friendly over the phone), I spoke with someone at Right Choice, who assured me that the owner would call me back in 5 and may even be able to come out late on a Friday. Frank Gillis, the owner, did indeed call, he was very helpful and assured me that no job was too small. He gave me a very fair price over the phone, especially seeing as he would be at my house the very next morning. Frank was very professional and friendly. He was quick to get up on the roof and investigate. After a look around, he brought me up to inspect the damage that the raccoons done and it ended up being much worse than originally anticipated. Now being new home owners, money was very tight, and I was very surprised when he re-assessed the damage and the new quote varied little from the original (even though he now had tripled the work). He was very thorough. Will definitely contact him again should we need work done. Kudos!

Frank along with several other roofers cam to my place and quoted on the project, he was one of the more reasonable prices that came in. But I like the fact that he spent a quite a bit of time up in the roof to provide me with an accurate estimate. He got the job. While fixing the roof, we found out the original boards were rotting, so the additional work (putting new plywood) was completed, but nothing was done without my consent and a price agreed upon. At the end, I got my entire roof fixed along with some additional needed repairs for a fair price. For the places I could not go up in the roof, he took before and after pictures, which I really appreciated. I am happy with his work and would recommend him.

Got a leak in my roof - did not know what to do to stop it. No way I was going to climb on our 3 storey townhouse. I've looked around for a contractor, called a few numbers. Frank was the only one that took my call in the evening. We talked about the problem and decided that it can wait until the morning. He arrived at the promised time. Went on the roof to inspect it and took some pictures to show me the problem Then we discussed the repair and cost. The work was done later that day and during the repairs additional problems were discovered. Frank gave me an update from the roof (called me from his cell) and then completed the job. At the end he showed me another batch of photos with the roof repaired (I've downloaded them on my computer for future reference)
All in all I am very pleased with the work and especially the way the communication was conducted (constant updates via phone, explanations and photos)

"I am very happy with Frank Gillis's work. Recently, I had a very heavy leak in the roof over my room. I had many roofers come to look at the leak but they were not checking the root cause. The only suggestions they gave were to, "change the roof" and gave me a quote. This was extremely frustrating as I have a single leak but the only suggestion is to replace the entire roof. Strong winds damaged a good portion of my roof and I was able to get hold of Frank Gillis, he came as he promised at the time he said he would. He did a survey of the damage, gave an estimate and once we agreed on the price proceed with the repair immediately. He found other problems which he addressed as well. He was very courteous and so were the people working for him. Will definitely deal with his company in the future!

RightChoice Roofing was hired to fix a roof that leaked only under certain conditions of heavy snow (3" or more) in late December 2009. The owner presented himself as an expert and experienced roofer and was paid $1000 to perform this repair. He supposedly fixed a gully and two valleys, and provided proper tie-in's with two other gullies - all to come with a full 5 year warranty as per the paperwork.

There was no heavy snow between that period and a few weeks ago when our roof leaked again and exactly in the same spot (both at roof and cailing level). Right Choice roofing was called in to rectify the situation. However after a 5 minute visual inspection of the roof and without clearing the snow, he indicated there were no "drifts" or any idications of a leak! After seeing the ceiling inside, he changed his tune and said he was fix the problem for an additional $1,500 and then $1,000! We obviously did not agree and he left quite angry.

We followed this visit with an e-mail the same night, to which he responded "obviously this was not the long term solutiion i had hoped it would be and a different solution is required". He had also called and left two messages the same night that he had time to think about this some more and would like to come in the next day to "rectify the problem". We gave him access to the property and during the two hours that he spent here, he only cleared the snow in that area on the roof, found some other problems with other areas of the rood and said that he was not as experienced last year when he fixed the roof and he knows how to do it now, but that we would only have to pay $500!

We did not agree and that same day, there was another major snowfall and the roof leak became even worse than it was a few days prior. We called Right Choice roofing and and sent them e-mails in the next few day, stressing the urgency of the situation. In this period, the price of the warranty repair went up to $1,000 and then back to $500 for material only! Since then, he has used every excuse in the book from not leaking at all, to leaking in a different area, to it already made it through 2 winters and finally his warranty did not cover "severe weather" as per paperwork (no such thing on paperwork as you can see for yourself)!!!

Rightchoice Roofing are the type of roofers featured on CBC's special program a week ago and are to be avoided at all costs.

Well my husband and i have been shopping around for a roof replacement, and went through a few companies that we reviewed here on this site, and well when we met the owner Frank, we felt very comfortable over the rest. He took his time and

Xmas night brought rain pouring into my bedroom. A call the next morning resulted in a visit from a pleasant and effective team who repaired the hole in one of the gutters created by a pair of enterprising racoons. The team worked quickly and documented the full repair from start to finish using my digital camera.

After one major rain strom the ceiling in my kitchen started to leak I was desperate, it was a long week end and was in a panic. A friend told me she had a repair done by this company and bragged how good they were. She had her roof redone but the company did a crappy job and would not return to fix it. By chance she saw this company Rightchoice Roofing at a gas station and went and spoke to the owner. She explained her problem and he was their that afternoon and fixed her roof and she was sooo happy how he explained what was wrong. So I called them up and she was right, frank did a full inspection and told me he could offer me a patch with warranty BUT I really need to replace my roof this summer which I am definetly calling frank. He educated me on all different types of product I could use, the personal touch he gave is what is missing in this industry, I had many bad shaddy experiences ESPECIALLY being a woman. Two thumbs WAY up!
