Basement renovation

We chose Estezo Estates to renovate our old and ugly basement because of the great reviews on the HomeStars and because our intuition hinted us to select Estezo out of several contactors that we had met. And we never regretted our decision. Jerson and Orlando came to our house at a very short notice, gave us lots of helpful ideas and a very fair quote. Due to a postponement of another project, the team could start working on our basement immediately or we had to wait for several months. My husband and I panicked because we didn’t have enough time to pack our things and move them out but Jerson said that we shouldn’t worry and that his guys will help us with everything. “Don’t worry” and “No problem” were the key words of Estezo team. All crew memebers who came to our house were friendly, knowledgeable and took pride in the high quality of work they were doing. Orlando was checking on the renovation progress every other day and patiently addressed all our questions and concerns. The whole project was finished on time and the final invoice was exactly as quoted without any surprises or extras. We are very happy with our new basement. Jerson, Orlando – thank you so much for the great job. Your team, Branco, Mario, all other guys were awesome. If anyone is looking for a no-problem renovation, Estezo Estates is the way to go.

Many years have passed and I still think back to this project whenever I pass by your area. Looking back over the years, you and your husband have been one of the best clients we have had. Thank you and we are glad you chose us for your basement project.

Electrical Disaster

We had a major electrical issue in our bedroom and hallway after my husband attempted to install a dimmer switch himself. We called around a few places and Estezo Estates responded by saying they could send someone out the next day because it would be easy to fit in such a small job during their larger projects. The electrician, Jun, came over and fixed our issue, really quickly. He was very friendly and polite. Because they charge a minimum service fee for any job, Jerson, also a very well mannered gentleman had suggested we find other work for their electrician to do to make it worth our while. Now all our lighting is working and we have a few new light fixtures. Estezo Estates made us feel important and they are really down to earth people who try their best to satisfy their customers. You should call them you won’t regret it! Two thumbs up!

Standup Shower, with complete bathroom gut, and enlargement

Assisted Review

It has been about 8 years now that I have been planning a custom bathroom renovation on my master bedroom washroom. I spent hours planning and mulling over design ideas and concepts because, as I'm sure most can agree with me, a renovation of this nature is going to stick with you for many years, and it needs to be top notch. For top notch work, you need a top notch renovator so I went straight to Homestars. This was no run of the mill bathroom reno. I needed a complete gut, remodel and superb finish. The existing shower was going to have to be made larger, taking out part of my walk in closet. Heated floors would be going in as well as a new fan and the plumbing was being upgraded all the way with jets and special showerheads, you name it I wanted it.

I chose Estezo Estates because of the positive reviews on here, and when I talked about design concepts, Jerson, the son of the owner (Orlando Estezo), made me feel like he was describing his own bathroom. When he spoke to me I felt he really had a passion for his work and I knew he would execute this renovation as if it were his own bathroom he was working on. His eye for detail, like mine, is strong. Not to mention the knowledge this young man displays of the construction process and the details involved in these different waterproofing methods and crack prevention this and structure that.

The company name struck me as a very personal down to earth title that sort of connected with me, and once I had them in the door it was exactly that, a personal connection. Jerson continually checked up throughout the job to make sure I was happy and that everything was progressing to my satisfaction. He took all of my many phone calls immediately, and never made me feel like I was bothering him no matter how trivial the question. He even offered to come shopping with me to pick up my fixtures! His father Orlando was there almost on a daily basis to make sure all the right materials were delivered and that their guys had the tools they needed, and that my dogs were properly entertained! :-)

They have a quality team behind them, and do quality work! They completely stuck to their quote, even when they had a surprise discovery about installing my ceiling fan, due to my attic configuration and roof slope it turned out to be a much bigger job then anticipated, and they covered that cost themselves, sticking to their quote.

I believe I made the right choice by sharing my bathroom renovation with Estezo Estates and I'm sure you will too. These guys love what they do and take pride in delivering a quality job, and a happy customer. I was nervous about hiring contractors as it was the first time I had done any work this large, and having heard nightmare reno stories I really was afraid of being taken advantage of and getting poor quality work. My fears were totally unneccesary with Jerson and Orlando. A 5 star job from the some great people I am happy to have met, and will call back again very soon when I'm ready to do my kitchen. Great work guys!

Complete Shower Gut and Custom Rebuild with Waterproofing

Assisted Review

My wife and I noticed a leak in our kitchen ceiling earlier this year and knew we had shower problems. Our main concern was not just re-doing the shower, but re-doing the shower in a way that we would be sure we would not be "forced" into another renovation by a failing product. When we met Jerson Estezo we were delighted to hear about the waterproofing technologies his company was using. He did not offer this technology as an upgrade, it was included in their standard price! He explained that this was the only way they did showers. It was too risky giving a five year warranty relying on the tile, grout and silicone to hold back the water. He explained that the rubber membrane under the concrete shower pan that was required by minimum code does not waterproof the shower it only slows and contains damage once it occurs. He told us that even if the shower was built properly sometimes movement in the structure of the home can weaken the shower structure allowing the water to pass to the rubber membrane and eventually to your kitchen ceiling or what have you. Their waterproofing system goes on top of the base, steps and walls just before the tile, so even if we were to intentionally break the tile and grout the water would not pass their membrane unless it was deliberately damaged. Because the membrane allows for movement (crack prevention) not just the waterproofing, the structural movement of the house would not damage it, it would take physical deliberate damage to make penetration. We did our own research which completely verified all the information he had passed to us. He was very detailed in his contract and even took us tile shopping personally. His men protected the entire path from the front door to the bathroom shower where they were working. The tiling job is magnificent and my wife and I have the piece of mind that the shower not only looks good on the outside but has the structural integrity necessary underneath to last until we decide to change the look. Thanks so much to Orlando, Jerson, Branco, Mario and the rest of the crew.

Caulking six windows, four on the second floor

I have a 45-year old two-story brick house that is starting to show its age. There are drafts near some of the windows and I have an occasional issue with water in the basement when I get a hard rain coming from the east. While I would have liked somebody in Brampton, I couldn't find anyone willing to work on what would be termed a 'minor' residential repair. So, I asked friends in Mississauga and was recommended to try Estezo Estates. A phone call on a Tuesday had them there the next day. And their expected bill came spot on. The job took the two men 2:40, which was just about 15 minutes ahead of the rain that day. Three days later, I inspected the work and it had held up. In addition to caulking the six windows, four of which were on the second floor, the workmen took the time and effort to seal cracks that had developed in the brickwork. Further investigation also revealed a larger than expected gap in the wall where the external air conditioning unit's tubing entered the house. It is quite possible that they also solved my water in the basement issue, with the frisbee-sized application of caulking surrounding that area. In all, I enjoyed the experience about as much as any that I end up paying out of my own pocket. Would I re-use Estezo again? Well, I have already talked to them about checking the foundation if the water issue is not resolved. And there is the front step ... and maybe enclosing the whole front entrance ... well, I guess the answer is YES.

What could this company do to improve their services?
My original contact phone number was an old one. Getting rid of that in various places it exits might cut down on that original phone call where I thought I had the wrong phone number.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Do it. The price (which included consumables in the form of caulking tubes) is very reasonable. Especially for a two-story house where I didn't want to be climbing up ladders. And I bet the savings in thermal loss will pay for itself over a very few winters.

We had a leak in our basement and after the interior waterproofing about 15 linear feet of wall needed to be replaced as well as tile. Also our stairs needed a new landing and steps down. My husband and I had Jerson come in and give us a quote on doing the repair work and a few custom made doors and staining. He explained exactly what he would do and how long it would take. We trusted him and liked his price so we gave him the job. He told us it would take 3 weeks or so to start as they were currently booked up and we agreed. To our delight it only took them 2 weeks to start the work. Their staff was cordial and professional. When replacing some tile work over the cement installed by the waterproofing company, Jerson’s tiler broke out a high area and re-laid the cement before laying the new tile to ensure a flat aesthetically pleasing job. During the course of the project there was a dent cause in our aluminium outside when unloading material and Jerson informed us immediately. Jerson called in an aluminium company right away and within a few days the piece was brand new at no cost to us! They cleaned up daily and even gave us a rebate at the end of the job in exchange for unused material we had purchased! We will definitely recommend you to friends and family. Thanks for all the help Estezo Estates.

When we called Estezo Estates out for a quote on our basement, Jerson arrived promptly and with lots of helpful info and ideas. My wife and I knew from the get-go this company has the knowledge and experience to get renovations done right.

The job took longer than originally planned but they kept us updated on their progress. Their staff is not only good at what they do, but friendly too! Our built-in media center is AWESOME!! Everything looks great and we have the peace of mind that it was done right.

Attention to detail and commitment to doing the job right were keys to our satisfaction. Not everything was perfect the first time but Jerson was committed to ensuring that we were happy. From day one to the last day of effort he stuck to the originally quoted price so we knew the budget was never going to be an issue.

We now have a basement that looks like it belongs on the main floor, it's better than we ever imagined it would be. Thanks to the whole crew at Estezo Estates.

Company Response

The "jackson basement" was the first job Estezo Estates Inc. under-took which involved taking two separate living levels of the home and merging them into the same space. We cut open there living room floor above their unfinished basement, reifnorced everyhting and then finished both the basement and the main floor. The result speaks for itself. Lovely oak flooded with sunlight from the baywindows in the living room. If anyone has dingy garage/laundry room stairs and wants something fancy for their guests this is a great idea.
