Drainage Repair

We met Luke at a home show. He seemed knowledgeable and competent, so after he did a drain inspection we hired him on to fix our ongoing perimeter drain issues which often caused seasonal flooding. At first he visited our site quite frequently and updated us quite well regarding the work on our 60-plus year old home. He was also okay about providing an "ongoing" receipt for the work done. Part way through the project however he began to renege on his promise of a receipt despite repeated attempts on our part to obtain one. 20k, and a year later, I discover that my drain system was improperly connected to the sewer line next to the sump. The city is unplugging it as I write! I have learned that my home (one of the original six in my area) doesn't have access to a storm drain system. The proper thing to do would have been to build a drainage field.

Company Response

Response from clean drains, this project was permitted by the city of port coquitlam which gave wrong locations of connection on their maps. The storm was tied into the sewer but later we found this out and came back, we changed the line the same day we were called. Receipts were given to client but misplaced and we are currently in the process of contacting the client for them to change their message written to properly reflect this. The initial call for our services was water coming in the back wall which was corrected and there was never a warranty issue just a connection issue from faulty information from the engineering department at city hall. Thank you for your consideration.

Basement Flood Response & Repair

There was a lot of rain in BC this week and some of it ended up in our basement. Clean Drains responded within 20 minutes to my call at 11:30pm and started pumping the water out immediately. The technician had a video camera on a wire that he used to see where the leak was coming from. I was impressed with the service and learned a lot about drainage, they handled the crisis well.

Flood Response & Drainage Cleaning

Last month my basement and my neighbors basement flooded and we needed help getting them dry again. We called Cleandrains.ca in the middle of the night and they responded quickly to pump the water out of our homes. I didn't think that we needed any work done on our drainage but Daniel did a free video inspection while we were waiting for the basement to dry out. There was a lot of dirt in the pipes and I requested if he could do anything about it. With in two hours he had all my drainage cleared and was gone before sun rise. I don't think we are going to do annual maintenance but we will have them back when in a year or so.

Drain tile work

Talk is big but don't be fooled by the talk. Luke [removed last name - ed] talks big and how wonderful a job they will do and how cheap they are. First, they are not cheap. $60/hour per person. That is $60/hour for a guy to dig and fill a hole. If they have 3 guys on site, that is $180/hour for them to dig and fill holes. It would be remotely okay if the guys doing the work were so experienced that they were worth $60/hour. Well, I had so many different workers on site, most of them brand new, that they didn't even know how to dig properly, shore the walls properly and in the end they workers didn't know what needed to be finished or what was already done. So, hire your own guys to dig and fill the holes (you can find them on Craigslist, that is exactly how cleandrains.ca found the workers that were digging on my yard). That way you can save probably 300% markup on wages, which again could be warranted if they were experienced and qualified, but they weren't. The other very disappointing experience with cleandrains.ca is that they didn't show up when they said they would. My job got delayed and delayed and when they didn't show up, of course they didn't call us to tell us they weren't coming. Basically, if they have other new jobs to start they will go there first and put your job off as long as they can. Oops I forgot, the only times they did come right when they said they would was to pick up their payment. I would be embarrassed to recommend them to my friends.

Company Response

Response from clean drains, this project was a set contract not hourly plus once we pulled the permits the inspection revealed that an outgoing line to the city connection was too high. This was done by a previous contractor. The additional work was not in our contract and the client was not happy about this and wrote these statements. The work though was finished by us the same week as the dispute and at no additional cost to make the client happy. Unfortunately this comment was never updated we are in the process of contacting the client to have her update this message to properly reflect what happened. Thank you for your consideration.
