Brampton, ON L6T 1N2 , that's Paul's address as per Better Business Bureau website.
Called Paul to do some work in my basement. He said it would cost $1800.00 and it'll be done in a day. Paid him and went to work . Came back to him and my money gone . Wall left open , job not completed. Had to pay $800 to another contractor to have it completed .
Worst human being ever is someone who takes food off your table and does not care that he is doing it.

I can relate to a lot of what the previous reviewers have written. The job and relationship with Paul started off well. I was really looking forward to writing a great review about this company. Initially they did a lot of work in a short period of time. Slowly, they started coming less and less. At one point he had a falling out with one of his sub-contractors, Alex. I’m sorry I didn’t get their number, because Alex had some excellent workers and their work was very professional. As soon as his team disappeared, the quality of work was inconsistent.

Unique Basements had much going for it - A catchy name and a very friendly, well spoken contractor. Paul did have better vision and ideas than other people. He was pleasant and polite and after a long delay he did throw extras like door installation and extra paint. Unfortunately, the end result did not match the promises and professionalism that I signed up for.

I put a lot of trust in Paul’s vision and expertise. The quoted project was stretching my family’s resources but we paid on time as agreed. I became alarmed and frustrated after paying out several thousand dollars and 'maybe' Paul or a worker would show up once in a week. The project was started in April and is still not complete. Aside from the money, and work not being completed was the stress of having my place look like a war zone for the spring and summer and at times having garbage piled up in my backyard for several months.

After giving him one of his last payments, we lost all contact with him. I’m stuck with having to hire new people to finish the work that was not done.

I’m giving a zero score because I’m still putting out money to finish this basement.

We have also opened up a BBB file on Paul and Unique Basements. Our project started June 15th and it is still incomplete. All we want is our money back.

I have a very similar experience like Aleks and Chris with Unique Basements (Paul A.). Unfortunately, I wasn’t lucky as they are, since I have lost more money and my basement is still unfinished.

We have agreed him to finish our basement and do some additional work at home. He said all the work will be finished no later than 6 weeks. His subcontractors started to work and we made our payments according to the schedule. However after 3rd payment he started to blame his subcontractors for asking more money and told us they messed up all the projects he was working. I haven’t seen him doing any work by himself. During that time we couldn’t reach him since he had only cell phones and we could only leave messages. He was calling us anytime he wants and sending subcontractors here and there.

After we made a significant payment as scheduled, he supposed to bring the floor, doors and trims. At that time he started to give excuses about delays and was still blaming the subcontractors. We also lost contact with him and he did not return any of our messages. I decided to open a file in Better Business Bureau asking him to complete the work as he promised. I also went to his home and talked to a gentleman which was his father or father-in-law. Then finally he called us back and promised to continue the work giving more excuses. Once he received a notice from Better Business Bureau, he started to blame us that we screwed his reputation and refused to talk. He also mentioned that he is in financial jeopardy and may consider to go bankrupt. He never responded to Better Business Bureau as far as I know.

I have contacted the subcontractors that he blamed and they told me that he has many customers which were almost in similar situation like us. I have contacted one of them and all of a sudden Paul called me back telling that he will finish the work again. This was only trying to gain more time to settle with other customer who wanted to pursue legal action for a relatively small amount. After he settled the account with this customer he disappeared again. I have sent him a final notice asking him to finish the job with 13 days. He did not respond this notice at all and I am now assigning the job to somebody else. Of course I will pursue legal action against him, since I have to pay more than the original contract amount. As of yesterday it was almost 2,5 months since the work started. I am trying to figure out my damage to start legal action.

I am trying to reach more customers like me, since I consider this practice as deceptive, misleading even fraud. I couldn’t find email of Aleks and Chris, however you guys can reach me at voccabird@hotmail.com. I am also not sure validity of the references below since one of them refers to his home address and phones are not working anymore.

As a summary, do not even work with him. I totally agree with everything Aleks and Chris said. I have also found issues regarding the quality of the work which he assigned to other subcontractors .He may try to change his company name which he already did before. His name is Amritpal Khipal Singh and there is a file in Better Business Bureau already on Unique Basements.

His name is Paul A and he totally screwed us. Don't believe the other reviews. We believe they are written by his relatives/friends. He is not to be trusted and is a very smooth talking con-artist.

It started as a good relationship. After the demo was complete and he received his first couple of payments his crew started to show up less and less during the weeks.

We started to notice that the work was sloppy and corners were being cut. The last straw was when he attempted to lay laminate floors on our very uneven basement floor without leveling it first. No joke it was like walking on a trampoline not to mention the laminate was all scratched up. He made excuses for the work saying "don't worry if you leave it for a few months it will flatten out" etc. etc.

We made it very clear how unhappy we were and that this work was not acceptable. He pretty much bailed when we made him take up the floor and he realized that most of his profit would have been eaten up when he would have had to do it properly and to code. After this barely any work was done and it was excuse after excuse.

Shortly after he took off to India and never came back or contacted us. He has since changed all of his numbers and disconnected him home line as well so we have no way of contacting him.

He owes us approximately $5,000 for work we have already paid for and that is not complete. This was money that we worked very hard for and saved over a long period of time. We hired him under Unique Basements and he has now changed his company name to Unique Basements and Builders Inc. and his website is: www.ubbinc.com.

This is a appreciation letter from a very satisfied customer...
I have a 3500 sq. ft. house in woodbridge ontario. I recently moved in couple of years ago and at that time my wife was so interested in having lots and lots of seperate room on the main floor but eventually we found out that its too conjusted and suffocating, we decided to sell the house and move somewhere which is more of a open concept kind of house. But my friend told me that it will be more expensive for me to rightaway sell the house because I just bought it 2 years ago, I would have lost more money then renovating it to a open concept. Then I met Mr. Paul from Unique Basements, the kind of creation this person has done in my house is amazing there is nothing better we could have asked for. He actually saved us lots of money and made our same house looks like a brand new creation. HATS OFF TO THIS GUY. Because I love the location of my house and I am so greatful that I didnt have to leave my house and got it renovated the way we wanted I should say much more than we wanted.

I wanted to renovate my entire basement since it was unfinished and looking dull. I called Paul from Unique basements and he came an suggested ideas on how to liven the entire area. When it was all done, I was stunned. The crews performance exceeded my expectations. I totally love the way it turned out, with the home theatre concept in one corner and a bar type setting in the next. Now whenever I invite guests the first thing they do is run to the basement for a great time. Paul from Unique Basements is highly recommended for any household projects. Thank You !

Paul from Unique Basements is an excellent and very skilled professional; who not only completed the project on time but in exemplary fashion. I as a customer, was treated with repsect and any questions I had regarding the job were answered in detail. I have no complaints regarding the job and always recommend Unique Basements to friends and family. Not only my basement, but my main floor kitchen, washroom, and outside deck were renovated; leaving my home looking like a showpiece. A year or so after the job one of my guests damaged the basements wall leaving a huge gash there. I called Paul to ask if he would help me, and not only did he arrive but he fixed the problem free of charge! I have seen many professionals over time but none are comparable to Paul.

I called six diffrent basement companies to design and price my basement. Paul from unique basement was the one came up with his unique ideas and floor plan which no other company thought of. His price was high but very close to four other companies. his ideas worth every penny because he made lots of changes in my basement ,like moving duct work,moving hot water tank,moving gas pipes, redoing airduct to gain more cilling hight. Its amazing how much knowldge and work experince one person can have to disgen a basement like this. We ren into a problem with timeing but it was not all because of unique basements its because we made some changes during the project. In the end we are very happy how our basement turned out and we are recommend this company to anybody.

we had a contractor to do the basement project. paul from ( unique basements)was recomended by frind to design the bar for us .after we told paul what and were do we want the bar. he told us his ideas to put the bar were it will look good and give us more area to work with .we talk to our contractor about his ideas and he told us its not possible to do so. we called back the unique basements to design our basement and paul took our the job to finish the basement . and we r so happy and glad the way our basement turned out .we had no idea that we can realy have so much room out of the basement .what we had befor unique basements finish the our basement. after that we another basement done by unique basements.since than i have recomending paul (unique basements) to all my friends and family . my two basements are all ways available for pepole who r intersted to see uniqe work and unique ideas created by paul (unique basements) my add is, 17 manird st brampton ont l6r 4n5. and 55 alexandira crst brampton ont l6t 1n2. contact ph # 905-654-2005 cell- 19083196099
