Complete Bathroom Renovation

We bought our first home and it was in desperate need of a main bathroom makeover. As avid watchers of the HGTV, we were quite aware of the trauma that some homeowners have experienced as a result of dodgy contractors, so when we had to find one for ourselves, we knew we really had to do our research. We had heard about HomeStars.com through a friend and thought that would be a great place to start our search. We only considered contractors that had at least a 9/10 rating and had more than 5 reviews. Jason was one that fit these criteria. We called quite a number of different places and after a few conversations with a few different people, we decided that we were just going to cross our fingers and hope that everything goes well with Jason.

We are so THRILLED that we did! JASON IS FANTASTIC! The project went over without a hitch and our bathroom looks absolutely AMAZING! It's exactly how we envisioned it to look!

We gave Jason a budget and he stayed right within it. He was extremely friendly, funny, helpful, knowledgeable, hard-working, efficient, intelligent; the list could go on and on. He had a great design sense which opened up our minds to other concepts and after going with one of his ideas, we were so ever glad that we did!

We cannot say enough good things about Jason and his work. We would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a solid, hard-working, thorough contractor and we plan to use his services again in the future.

Thanks again Jason! We have been reassured that there are great contractors out there! No need to call Mike Holmes in! :)

The first home...
So many emotions attached to an assembly of wood, wires and pipes. This is why all of us love those HGTV shows! I'm an avid fan of them too.
Unlike the TV crews, that bring the homeowner in for the big reveal, I have the unique pleasure and opportunity to meet with you, to ask for your opinions, to offer you our own suggestions and to have you see what eventually will be covered by drywall and tile.

Kristine and Rob, you took the time to see inside the walls of your new home...to see the insulation before and after we upgraded it, to see the existing plumbing that we improved, and even the numerous lines drawn on the floor as we calculated the best floor tile layout.

So many emotions...
For you, the new proud owners as you settle into your first home and make it your own.
For us, too, to assemble the wood, wires, and pipes.
It is a labour of love.
It's the great contractors that take pride in their work, ones that have taken the years of apprenticeship to learn ancient craftsmanship and skills, and blend these with modern methods, materials and designs.
I agree, there are still many great contractors out there. I've met and have worked alongside many of them.

I thank you for your many kind words, and for inviting us into your first home.

Fence installation

We have a corner lot and wanted to enclose the backyard to prevent our toddler from running out into the street and create an extended living space to entertain family and friends.

This was no easy task! The fence permit required an Arborist to be present during the fence installation and to confirm the appropriate placement of the fence posts to prevent tree damage.

Jason personally dug 11 posts by hand to ensure that the tree was not damaged.

The result was a beautifully designed and functional outdoor living space, where we enjoy entertaining our family and friends. But most of all, it is truly a wonderful backyard for our son to play and explore his curiosities, with the peace of mind knowing that he is safe.

Thanks again Jason!

Despite the many challanges imposed by Building Services and Urban Forestry Toronto, we were able to create a safe, functional yard space for a great family. There were some great designs by some top notch landscape companies, so it was a personal proud moment when our team's fence design was chosen as the best solution to meet the Chen's concerns and wishes. A special thanks to our associate, Wayne Godwin, for all his help throughout the design and install.
Another safe and successful project!
Thanks for your review and your hospitality!

Design and Finish of Basement

Jason takes great pride in his work. We enjoyed working with him in the design aspect as he had great ideas and solutions to problem areas. He is a contractor you can trust in your home and one who will do what he says. His workmanship is second to none, giving great attention to detail, caring about the finished product. He will be the first person we will call again when in need of a contractor.

We love basement renovations. Too bad the builders always rough in the plumbing where it isn't wanted. We move the ductwork to where you won't bang your head on it. Check the existing plumbing and electrical so we don't bury an old problem inside a new wall...
Get past these few minor challanges, and we're set!
Shane and Mel had a few specific details they wanted in their new space. Soundproofing, concealed theatre wiring, gas fireplace, specialized lighting.
At the end of the project, Shane and Mel had a warm, inviting space to relax and unwind.
Thanks for taking the time to review our work!

Hardwood floors, banisters, drywall, baseboards, you name it

Well, do you have an hour!!! I started with the upstairs hardwood floors and I could not resist completing the main floor because Jason did such a fabulous job!!! At least I used up my government tax credit!!! It was worth every penny and I love my new floors. The new floors made my old Leaside house look brand new!!! I cannot believe the attention to detail. I now have more projects for him.....
Thanks Jason

From laminates, parquay, and engineered wood floors...to hardwood floors throughout. It makes for a beautiful update to any home.
Sometimes a number of previous renovations leave you with a mismatch of floor finishes, different elevations and numerous transitions. Its difficult to achieve the updated look and flow of design that you wanted for your renovated home.
While we were there, we also opened up the room by removing a partition along the basement stairway, added some lighting, and new baseboards.
An open, flowing design, rooted with classic hardwood floors. A great way to tie all the previous renovations together. Thanks for taking the time to post your review, Nancy.

Ensuite and Walk-In Closet

Our bathroom and walk-in closet were in planning stage for almost two years. After meeting with many contractors, none of which we felt comfortable with, Jason was recommended to us by my sister. Immediately Jason came across knowledgeable and professional and really put us at ease.

The project was not without it's problems but none were the fault of Jason. He handled the issues well and made sure that the quality of work was top of mind.

We are extremely happy with the results and will recommend Jason to friends and will work with him again on future projects.

Thanks Jason!

Dave and Margaret are model clients. They had a vision for their space, and invested their efforts in planning and design. When the time came for construction they took out building permits and had drawings and a scope of work ready for bidding. During construction they were always available, and there were no delays waiting for responses. Because they would monitor the progress they can appreciate the details that will never be seen again: soundproofing around plumbing, insulation aroung the tub to retain heat, ball valve shut offs, schluter shower pan, ditra subfloor, concrete backer board.
At the end of the project they can be confident that their new ensuite is safe, structurally sound and will stay beautiful for years to come.
Dave and Margaret, it was a pleasure to have met you and to work for you.

renovation-tree removal-bathroom installed-odds-ends

In 2007 Jason was highly recommended to us by a prior contractor. We required the removal of two large spruce trees and a drainage system installed. Jason did an excellent job,, He was responsible, reliable, a perfectionist. When he said he would be at the site he was there. Twice he was held up and telephoned. His work site was left spotless.

In 2008 we hired Jason for renovations in our downstairs. This involved removal of old insulation and building the room from the concrete walls out ... studs, insulation, drywall, taping, painting, drop ceiling, boxing in of pipes etc., drilling the concrete for the bathroom pipes to be installed.

He was knowledgeable in all aspects of the project including the building code. He kept the mess to a minimum with air purifier and vacuuming, blocking air ducts and enclosing areas where possible. He also installed all of the bathrooom fixtures after the water pipes and drains were in place. Everything he did was exact and precise.

We find Jason honourable, reliable, trustworthy and does excellent work. Indeed, we trusted him completely and whan absent from our home we left him a key for his access to finish the job.

"Maryann",
The coffee and tea made it all worthwhile! I suspect the drainage will be put to the test when the snow melts this spring.
This is another wise client...She booked to be away from home while most of the demolition and construction was taking place. It takes some of the stress off of both the homeowner and contractor. If you have a solid plan and a trustworthy contractor, why not get away from the "dirty" part? "Maryann" was able to stay involved and informed by email, digital photos, and a third party trusted friend.
The end result? More living space, increased home value, new friends made.

Jason, helped us out. We had another contracter lined up to do the work. We needed it done, becuase we had a wedding coming up and needed the bathroom fixed ASAP. Jason, was great. He did the work the week of the wedding. Very short notice for him and he fit us in. He did a great job and has fabulous work ethics. Will be hiring him again for future work. He does just about everything you need done. Very clean and punctual! Would not hesitate to recommend him.. He was doing work for people we knew and asked him to do ours. Happy we did.

John and Theresa have something in common with most homeowners - very little time for doing renovations. While planning a daughter's wedding a few weeks away and running a business during its peak season, they needed a hand. It was a small job, but by being accommodating and flexable they opened their home to me so the work could proceed at "odd" hours. As a result, the project was completed on time & on budget.
Sometimes a "last minute" task needs to be done. With an accommodating owner and an accommodating contractor it can be done successfully.
Thanks, John, for your review and your business.

bathroom renovation

We have a bathroom off the main bedroom which consists of a shower stall, sink and toilet. THe drywall behind the toilet started to show mold and the shower started leaking. We found Jason through a friend referral. He came and gave an estimate for the work required based on what he could see. We provided all materials. We ended up having to gut the entire bathroom due to poor electrical wiring, plumbing and drywall rot and mold. Jason kept us informed at all times of his progress and additional costs. We opted to have the entire bathroom tiled from floors to halfway up the walls. He did a fantastic job. Not only is he honest but he's witty too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Jay, you're the best!

This project was a perfect example of " what's lurking behing the wall/floor?" At first glance, it was going to be a simple finishes update. Fortunately, this family was committed and involved to make sure their home was going to be safe, healthy and sound. There was smiles all around when this project was completed! All the best, Kathy.
